drat you Chris for getting my hopes up. :argh: I thought the new episode was finally here. What's taking Central Anime so long, anyway? They’re probably spending a few weeks getting the rainbow Karaoke for the OP *just* right...

Honestly, I think it just adds more to the characters that are already there. Yeah, it was a huge loving blow, but it was the awesomest blow ever.

Though right now, I'm just downloading the shows and waiting. I hate this blues ball I get with this show more than any other. I think I'll just stock pile a bunch of episodes (maybe to 90) and then start watching it after episode 84.

This is my third favoritist show ever. I don't know if that's a real word or not, but whatever, you know what I mean.

And I agree with the poster above me, keep loving watching.

VVVV I think I love you, for putting into words that I could not.

Suck it up and keep watching man. If you quit now the terraists (sp) win.

PS: The show loses none of its quality because the writers are loving bad-rear end. That and the show is just so huge there is always something to like. I myself am stuck on a pair of hot redheads and how their role is going to play in this saga. I just cannot stop watching.

Watching eps 79 & 80 (so much for pacing myself, only 6 released eps left):

Generally, I've found that when the show is focusing on internal Imperial matters I'm rooting for Reinhard, but when the show is focusing on Reinhard vs. Yang, I'm 100% in Yang's camp, even while acknowledging that Reinhard really isn't a bad guy at all. These episodes, though, really tug at the heartstrings with the admiral death scenes. Yeesh. Fahrenheit's, especially.

I really wish it had been Bittenfeld that died, especially since in a way it was his fault. I had been wondering how long it was going to be before one of Reinhard's elite cadre finally kicked the bucket... I just wish it had been one of the less likable ones. Heh.

Also, unrelated to the above, I've been wondering: I know that Yang's VA died and they had to use a different actor for him in the other LoGH productions. For anyone who's seen those, how does the replacement stand up to the original? Kei Tomiyama's performance as Yang in the series is pretty perfect; it's hard for me to imagine anyone else doing it as well.

The Mote in God's Eye

I've introduced a friend to LOGH. At first he was like "Oh look they have a Deathstar" but then I leave him alone for a bit, and discover that in the space of a week he's watched something like 45 episodes, while working a full time job! It is a happy story.

Anyway, my friend has finally watched up to ep 86, and we were discussing the latest developments and what's going to eventually happen. And he had an insight into something that I had totally missed; why Reinhard seems to be hesitating and temporalizing on this issue of an heir. Honestly, I thought he was just shy toward women :shobon: but it's not that. It's because there's no way he can solve this issue. Either he says "my heir and the person who gets power is whoever my genetic decedent is" which makes him into an aristocrat, the thing he most hates. Or he appoints somebody as his heir, which causes huge politcal strife among his staff and possibly gives someone a good excuse to have him assassinated.

It's a microcosm of the problem that the Empire faces...it may not be today, it may not be tomorrow. But if Reinhard doesn’t want to create an aristocratic empire that he's hated since day one, democratic reforms will be necessary.

SCF

I always had an interest in LoGH, and on multiple occasions I said "I would like to watch it some day", but the fact that it was 110 episodes and still being subbed was holding me back. This finally ended two months ago, when some new episodes came out and I figured I'd just download the first few batches and give it a try.

A month and a half later, I reached the end of what CA had subbed. Apparently I carry a curse with me, because during that entire time, only 85 and 86 came out.

But, I was going to persevere. I was going to wait for high-quality subs.

Well, I waited two weeks. Then I got the HK subs, which I all watched in the span of a week. I didn't want to wait a year to see the rest and having forgotten most of what happened before. :(

All I'll say is, this is one hell of a show. I'll probably collect the CA subs when they come out and watch them all again, but I don't think I missed anything vital from the (grammatically pretty bad) HKs.

Everything that follows are END OF SHOW SPOILERS:

I honestly don't even know where to start. So much just happened.

I will say though, I was really getting worried towards the end. Things really slowed down after the Reuental arc. That was expected for the whole part with the marriage, but as the series crept towards the 110, things seemed awfully stagnant. Where was the unavoidable final showdown? Where was the ultimate climax? Things seemed to happen and get resolved within the same episode (the prison outbreak, the fire at the palace on Phezzan), Julian set off towards Heinessen but immediately turned back, the tension between Oberstein and Bittenfelt that turned real dangerous at some point faded away again, and Rubinsky was captured easily. Finally, I only had three episodes left. The battle had begun at last, but it didn't ease my worries at all. Only three episodes? And at that point, it seemed awfully much like Julian was going to win the battle just because Reinhard fell ill.

Well, somehow those three episodes managed to resolve everything I was asking for. Even though the earth cult's end seemed rushed, it still ended instead of being left up in the air. It was a satisfying end, I thought.

What I didn't like was that the show focused more and more on the empire by the end. After Julian took over in Iserlohn and order was established, they pretty much stayed there until the end. It's not that I didn't like the empire -quite the opposite. My issue with the last season was exactly that the empire had much more interesting character interaction than the republican side. At that point the people at Iserlohn seemed to be pretty much in complete harmony, so all we got was friendly banter between Attenborough/Poplan/Schennkopf.

But, I'm just being negative now. The great parts vastly outweighed the bad ones. The whole Reuental rebellion arc was probably my favourite part, and definitely placed him as one of my favourite characters. I also found my view towards Oberstein shifting gradually over the course of the series. For a long time I just disliked him greatly, but in the end I think he was one of the most interesting characters; despite his lack of morals, he was probably the most loyal person to the empire there was.

By the way, was the fourth ED just designed specifically to throw you off? The whole imagery couldn't be any less subtle of a foreshadowing that everyone except Julian and Katerin dies. I think that's partly what had me expect a huge 10 episode dramatic finale.

hi guys, I am thinking of getting in to this - could somebody quickly tell me though, is this a series which has a lot of padding, or scenes with generally a whole lot of nothing going on?

LoGH has some rave reviews but this sort of thing is annoyingly common in anime, so I have to ask.

reason being is I have the attention span of a gnat. So unfortunately I can't be bothered putting up with anime like this anymore. Does LoGH have this sort of thing?

sorry if this has been answered, I scanned the first 3 pages but didn't go any further than that.

This is generally not a show for people with short attention spans, but no, there isn't a lot of unnecessary padding. The only stock footage they use is during major fleet battles. There are also next to zero flashbacks, and absolutely no recaps. Even in the episodes where they go over past events, they manage to make it interesting and unique, showing you a new component of the story instead of just rehashing things you already know.
