Some very nice setups here. Makes me want to go spend some money! I'm usually pretty good about saving money, but when it comes to A/V stuff, I'm pretty compulsive at times.

I would like to explore buying a home theater setup of sorts. Not sure if I should just buy a receiver and buy a couple of speakers, or just buy a HTIB. This thing actually looks pretty cool: http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=363836&pCatg=5728

My living room is (roughly) 25'x20'x10', and I've got almost that exact speaker setup. I've got 602.5 S3s for the fronts, which I suppose are the 684s now, and a Hsu VTF3-Mk3 for a sub. Personally I have absolutely no complaints, but they may be a bit much for your room size. As far as sound quality, they are absolutely not a bad idea. I'm trying to convince my wife that we need another pair of DS6 to go to 7.1 now that we've finally upgraded our TV. There's a picture (with our old TV) back on page 8 for scale.

Receiver- Denon 2307ci, really nice and a huge improvement from my old 1803. The 2307 powers my center and rear surround channels. That stupid 1803 didn't have amplifier preouts so i couldn't run...

Amp- Carver 500t, old school power (1983 baby), 251w x 2 rms. Its pure sex especially since its hooked up to a couple of power hungry bitches...

Speakers, Fronts: Cherry Klipsch RF-7's, i love these things... my room is too small for them, but i don't care anyways.

Center: Black Klipsch RC-7, I like it but i think i want an RC-64 to replace it.

Rear Surrounds: Cherry Klipsch RB-75's, my favorites of the bunch, very very sweet sound, i want another pair. I've considered using them as mains but thats a lot of work as the RF-7s weigh a ton.

Neato fact: All of the Speakers use the same Horn for highs, they work together VERY well!

Subwoofer: Nothing for now, the RF-7's reach low enough for now, and not having one probably keeps the Cops away from my door.

TV: An older 27" sony flat screen CRT. HD is coming soon, i plan to buy a 37 to 42 inch 1080p lcd over christmas during the sale madness.

DVD Player: a 5 year old Sony 5 disc changer w/ progressive scan. it works for now... Blu-ray is in my future

Comcast DVR for cable (comes with a lubeless rape session every month for only 11.95!) I hate it but i need it :P

I currently have a ps2 and an NES hooked up to this for gaming, i wont get a new console until i have an HD tv.

The space: a 15'w x 20'd x7'h Room, the duplex is a brick affair with plaster walls built in 1954. Needless to say the room has issues, I need to setup some sound deadening around the room to help with reflections and a nasty hole in the low end that only exists right at the listening position.

I have this kick rear end setup because i'm a loser and i lived with my parents for 3 years in my mid 20's (aka till last year) and blew a lot of money i probably should have saved. Still i regret nothing. I'll take a picture as soon as i can steal a digicam that isn't my cell phone.

I just checked your set up out, I like how you're using your sub as a table for the phone and some light that resembles a bong.

I bit the bullet and bought the LCR600 and a pair of DS6 for 600 and change shipped to Los Angeles.

What is the best way to mount the DS6 so they don't fall on my head? If you look in my picture i'll be putting them on the back wall left and right of the bathroom door.

Right now I have my speakers bi-wired with some off the shelf monster cable that ken-crane had, the result is I have a lot of wires.

My understanding is bi-wiring is better? it's simple so i thought i'd do it. My center has 4 terminals, so i'm assuming i'll bi-wire that too. Or should I not?

Bi-wiring won't hurt... but it also doesn't help really (note: audiophiles may disagree). The only way it is beneficial is so you don't have to use the stock metal bridge that came with your speakers, which is usually made of some cheap crappy metal with "copper" plating. Putting short, nice speaker cable "jumpers" between the high and low posts will have the same benefit but use much less wire.

Bi-amping, however, is another story.

The DS6es come with a little template and some rubber feet. They take three screws, in a triangle configuration, so just put the top screw into a stud and they'll stay up. The lower two screws don't have to be in a stud, but if you can swing it, it helps. The rubber feet also provide some friction/pressure to keep everything in place. It'll make more sense when you have them in front of you, but you should still try to get at least the top screw into a stud, which is why mine are slightly mis-aligned with each other. They also just have the two terminals, so bi-wiring is out from the get go.

My center is wired with this 13ga stuff, and since it's a) expensive for wire, b) a serious pain in the rear end to work with and c) my wiring is enough of a train-wreck already, I skipped the bi-wiring. The metal bridges that comes with this speaker are pretty good though; gold plated, nice and stiff, about 2mm thick and around .2 ohm from end to end according to my multimeter (and the terminals are closer than end to end obviously). If you've got the time, wire, and inclination I don't see any reason not to bi-wire, but I also don't think the extra effort is going to make much difference unless you're bi-amping as well. Just use the included crossbar and save the extra 10-15 minutes and ditch some wire clutter.

I apologize if i've posted this in the wrong thread - but it's related to setting up a TV in a sense.

I finally have some wall-space in my bedroom now which is big enough for me to mount my 37" LCD TV on. I'm curious, once the TV is mounted - what is the best method for hiding the cables that will be dangling down from the TV?

I will have quite a few, from the power and component cords on my Xbox 360, to my Wii, and my DVD player. So there's quite a few thick cables that i'll need to somehow hide.
How does everyone here with a wall-mounted TV do this?

If you are able to drill into your drywall, get a 1-1.25" hole bit and bore out a little hole behin the tv, and then another directly under it, about 6" above the molding. Zip tie the cables in a nice loom and (use a fish tape if needed). If you are a little nervous about having open space in your wall, just use a rubber grommet to fill in the remainder.

Some people don't like this idea, but it is easy and it works.

Exactly what I just did, I just ran some speaker wire into my attic and was able to drill into the wall, and drop my wires into the hole behind my TV.

Some rich people are nuts sometimes, i guess if your time is worth a couple hundred bucks per hour you dont care to sell something on ebay and rather just have someone take it off your hands.

Some of the "best deal threads" on AVSforum have people picking up denon avr 2803s or whatnot for $50 from rich old ladies.

One thing i gotta ask though is whats with the speakers 8 feet in the air, why dont you put them on stands near the TV at ear level?

The center channel is stupidly big and won't go on top of the TV or in front of it. As far as the sides go, no excuse really. We're going to move in a few months and will be buying some different furniture. Maybe I'll figure out something more aesthetically pleasing at that time.

I hope it won't be a problem. The Wii is really small and not covering any vents. I've yet to have a problem with the 360 in the two years or whatever I've had it... :fingers crossed: :knock on wood:

Thankfully the couches were spared. The floor isn't perfectly flat, so where most of the couch was it didn't get a lot of water. I think all that got wet was the wood feet, but we are still checking them out.
One of the first things we did was raise all the furniture on wood or foam blocks.
I am also really glad the tv stand and all the electronics are in a stand with metal feet. Nothing got we there.

It's true. I'm moving this month, I'll figure something out then. To be honest I've been waffling between building a surround sound setup and buying speaker stands, which is why they're still on the floor.

Edit: I might build some stands next month, I just can't find any speaker stands for what I'd call a reasonable price. I'd spend like $30 on each stand I guess, but any more than that and I wonder why a pole with some wood on top is so expensive.
