Yeah, depending on how this whole christmas thing goes, I might order the split. I really want it but I'm not sure if I want to shell out 20bux for it.

I might be making the mistake of waiting for some copies to come to a stateside distro. Knowing my luck, none will come or they'll sell out in like 2 seconds.

I've been doing that same thing since they went on sale like five weeks ago or whatever. I'm starting to think I'm risking it a bit too much.

Ok, Heaven In He Arms released an LP and it's pretty awesome. THey're pretty much Envy Jr. So of course I'm going to fall over myself for it.

Also, because I don't feel like tracking down the Metal/Grindcore thread, listen to Genghis Tron's new track here: http://www.paperthinwalls.com/singlefile/item?id=1247

It's epic and ominous as gently caress. I can't wait for the new album. Also sup Hamilton.

Anyone got any suggestions for bands similar to The Tim Version / Off With Their Heads / Young Livers? Just that really up-beat, rough-as-gently caress dirty punk rock and roll? Listening to them is such a loving good time.

This was in Chicago right? All these bands have been up to Milwaukee (except Born Bad), and they're all excellent. My favorite would definetely be No Slogan. Melodic hardcore is always awesome!

edit: Hey, I'll talk about some often overlooked Ramones worship, the Hanson Brothers! Most of the dudes were in Nomeansno, and I've been listening to them nonstop. The older albums are a bit harder to absorb but "My Game" is a choice album that is 100% solid. Canadian, about hockey, great production on every album.

You get to hate Weekend Nachos so much you end up loving them.

From the mouth of John, their singer, in Hot Food issue 1:

quote:

why do girls want to be friends with me? seriously, i don't understand it. yes, it's true i can have female ACQUAINTANCES. you know, girls i talk to at shows, girls i think are cool people, girls i'm friends with on Myspace, girls i can hang out with in groups, girls who are dating friends of mine, Michelle who is my female roommate and she rules a lot...but girls who want to actually BE friends with me and hang out, one on one, with no other purposes other than just being buds??? this just does not make sense.

(snip)

i don't need to get my nails done. i don't need to go to a loving ART MUSEUM. these are things that GIRLS need to do with OTHER GIRLS, not me. (more snip)

Yeah, he's clearly insane. He had a letter in MRR recently about the Vile repress by parts unknown and something about the XBrainiaX debacle with I believe Rabies? Anyways. Love him to pieces. He's like a 5 year old in a 20 year old's body.

I've heard people call bands "melodic hardcore" when they mean "not mosh metal". Keep in mind a lot of people will look at you like a deer in headlights if you refer to Black Flag as a hardcore band.

Does anyone hear like Dry-Rot? Saw them this summer. loving crazy hardcore band. The vocalist poured bleach on himself during their song "Bleach" (or it might be Bleached...my EP is at my friends house...) Both of the albums that I have by them (Subordinate and Permission) are solid.

Dry Rot is amazing, especially the concept album (was it on Deer Healer, maybe both the first EPs are on DH?) about the serial killer. My friend interviewed them for his zine Herpes- they have some loving weird rear end backgrounds though. I dug that ep but never saw them.

hardcore has become different from hardcore punk and I don't like it.

I just refer to all the music I like as hardcore or punk or skramz or whatever I don't get too picky about it.

"Opposite of December" for PTW and "Calculating Infinity" for DEP as previously mentioned, but most bands play a lot of new material live, so I'd check out the two newest DEP albums also since they will probably play a lot of those songs live. Not sure about Poison the Well, because I thought they broke up and I've never seem them live.

Miss Machine or Irony Is A Dead Scene are probably the best starting points for DEP, and they play at least 1 song from Irony... and several from Miss Machine.
