Sweet! its like the Honda version of a VW rabit pickup.

I was looking at my 86 starion and thinking of ways I could modify it into a pickup, or maybe a cabriolet/targa/t-top type thing... I could turn a Starion into a Cabrion!
It would probably be too much work to make safe, so I probably wont do anything. but its fun to think about.

Some local idiot did this to a BMW 320i, then painted it "camo". I saw him hauling bales of hay around town one day. :( It didn't have a "bulkhead" (I don't know what else to call it) behind the seats either- it was just open.

I'm sure someone has a mint one socked away in a barn. That one, however, looks to be in perfect shape for adressing your acute projectitis. A newer, strong running 600cc or 750cc motorcycle engine can be sourced for just a couple hundred dollars (especially if it's an aircooled one). It's a kei car, so is tiny, and ridiculously light - the brakes and suspension are understandably ... designed on a budget.

As to rarity:

quote:

According to one source, a total of 40,586 sedans and coupes were sold in the US for the 1970 thru 1972 model years, with the majority being sedans. Totals from the HONDA FACT BOOK state that there were 35000 Honda AN600 Sedans and 15500 AZ600 Coupes sold in the USA. Regardless of the exact number sold, very few have survived. Although the actual number of survivors is unknown, best estimates are fewer than 1000, probably more like 300 or so are in operating condition today. Bill Colford has done research on production numbers, and his conclusion is:"How many USA survivors are out there, I would have to say 600 or so Sedans and Coupes combined and maybe 300 of these are running. However, more are being restored as we speak."

Get it, and chuck in a newer bike engine.... Dooooo ittttt.....

I am ready to sell this totally RAD, vintage Ford F-250!

Trust me, this thing turns more heads than [insert really clever line here, I was thinking something about a doctor giving physicals to a football team, but I digress.)

This 1966 model is a 4-on-the-floor manual transmission with a granny low gear, and its got a 352 engine. Mechanically speaking, it is in solid working condition. Cosmetically, the body is in good shape (very little rust) but there are a few scratches in the paint. You could drive it every day, or you could make it a project and make it perfect. All I know is that I'm not taking it with me when I move out-of-state.

The best thing about the truck is the way it feels when you get it out on the highway. The second best thing is how much attention it gets.

In conclusion, I want to sell you this truck. MAKE AN OFFER. You can do a drive-by (corner of Davenport & North Governor - parked in the driveway on Davenport) or email me to set up a time to come drive this machine.

Thanks for lookin'.

6 inches of suspension travel and a engine compartment barely 3.5ft wide doesn't seem to make either of those a good idea. I had a NX2000 with a SR20 and it barely fit in it, less a car 1 foot less wide.

It may seem hard to believe, but I thought out both before deciding on either. I'm obviously going to way of taller suspension for the offroad Z, and the SR20 is explained below.

Yup, especially in cali. They're the hot new bikes and they're so cheap compared to other start bikes that dealers aren't having any problems selling them for 4.5-5k out the door. The last shipment that came in to one of the dealership in the bay area had 13 bikes and none of them ever saw the floor.

You'd think that might actually prompt the other bike marques to import their mature lineup of starter bikes, rather than just sticking with the tired old models that have been around for ages. Some are worse than others, of course (Yamaha :argh: ). The market for beginner bikes is only going to grow as gas prices creep up, so hopefully we'll see a few more examples in the vein of the new 250 Ninja.

I saw the same thing up here with CBR125Rs - people were trying to get anywhere up to $4500CAD for them (used). It's died down a little, but there still aren't any 2007 models on CL within this province for under $2800. :downsgun:

Because it's not something easy, it's something expensive and they know it. They just don't want you to know it. If it really was something easy they would have fixed it, guaranteed. In this case "just needs freon" probably means "needs a new compressor" or something else equally expensive.

That's an awfully steep price for something that even if properly restored, won't ever be a terribly cool/valuable car. All the weather stripping will be cracked/crumbling/nonexistant, and even if the drivetrain is in serviceable order, you will have trouble overtaking the Amish on rural roads.

For $500? Sure.
