Do not try and score on the powerplay. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.

What truth?

There is no powerplay.
Did anyone else see Streetlight in Boston this past week? I went to the first night and I'm really curious as to what they played on the second night

Thanks for posting this, man. I'm a big SM-fan too, so these small things are great to stumble upon. That being said, and not trying to pick a fight here, am I the only one who thinks that Tomas going solo acoustic with these songs just... Doesn't really work? At least the old stuff - Somewhere in the Between sounds pretty good (but even with that song the crowd can't keep themselves from improvising the horns between stanzas). It just isn't the same without the blasting horns and frenzied screams. :)

These would be so much better if the crowd would just shut up and let the man sing. I've seen Streetlight a few times live and there are times where you just can't hear Tomas at all because the crowd loves to yell them and drown him out. I know it's fun and all and I do it a lot but Streetlight fans are just ridiculous at it. There were a few times at the last show where Tomas just stopped and let the crowd sing and while I guess he thought it was cool, it happened like 4 times so it just got annoying.

Man, that's what I love about going to shows. Just the feeling of screaming the words along with the band with a bunch of people that love the music as much as I do. I know it sounds lame and all idealistic, but I think that's kinda what music is all about to me. Whenever I see Streetlight and it's a bunch of screaming along to the words, I come out of that show completely drained, but so ridiculously happy. Streetlight is just one of those bands that it's really awesome to do that to.

That CD by Ngobo Ngobo is one of the only ones really available here in America, you can get it on iTunes and Napster, I think.

A band I just found and am digging on a lot is Makako Jump, a spanish band with a lot of energy but a lot of talent as well. Their style sounds extremely familiar to me but I can't place it exactly. Definitely not run of the mill.

e: Here's their MySpace. Their horn section and drumming reminds me a lot of Tokyo Ska Paradise but the actual style of the band is closer to that of north american bands.

I'm super excited because every time I've seen the Supervillains live they've been awesome. Holy poo poo.

Less Than Jake relaunched their website today. They put up a streaming version of their new single, "Does the Lion City Still Roar?". It is awesome. It sounds totally different than anything they have ever done, but it sounds really familiar at the same time. It's hard to explain. It has a really old school sound to it. There's a dark, heavy ska riff and tons of horns. But the quality lyrics are on par with the stuff that didn't start showing up until Borders & Boundaries.

I'm sure they're just boring third-wave ska but the song I mentioned is really good and I'm wondering if anybody else likes their stuff.

I do. Once in... er... was it 1996? I was the first... um... only person greeting them the second they got off their tour bus in my town. It was the second time I'd seen them live. They asked me where was the nearest place to eat, so I escorted them to a Subway on the other side of the block we were on and talked to them while they ate... then followed them back to the venue for soundcheck and the show. I did buy a copy of their CD "Fat Free," and took some bad pictures of them, but bog knows where those pictures could be now.

For the record, they only shine live. I thought the studio version of their music versus their live music was like... comparing a cardboard cut-out to a human being. What did happen to those guys? They were fun.

The new LTJ song is good, definitely miles ahead of their last album. I think I'm doomed to be forever dissapointed by LTJ records though, since I don't really care for much they released besides the first 3 albums. I'm still debating on whether to go to their show in Atlanta. They still put on a killer live show but there's usually only about 4 songs they play that I really like. However Mustard Plug is playing and I would totally pay $20 just to see them.

Edit: Well what a coincidence I just got a call from our guitar player that we're playing the LTJ show in Atlanta, guess I'm going after all :)

I'm not completely positive on this but from what I remember a couple of the guys in the band (the singer/bassist and somebody else) were from NC, and the rest of the band was scattered across the UK. Because of this they rarely toured and therefore didn't have much of a fanbase. I saw them once or twice in Columbia and there was nobody at these shows, probably about 20 people that were there to see the local bands. They still put on a good show though. I think I heard somebody say the two dudes from the US moved over to the UK about 2 years ago but I don't know about that. Bari Saxy Man is a killer song though.
