Been listening to weird hardcore/crossover/blitzkrieg thrash kind of music massgrav is pretty fun, albeit repetitive, especially when you really like a song but its like 32 seconds long. http://www.myspace.com/massgrav also I love the Japanese scene, its like they filtered all the bad things with whats wrong with hardcore/punk/thrash these days, took a bunch of adderall and just made album after great album after great album. Just non stop, full of energy, minimal breakdowns and FUN. Been to a few shows (idol punch, gently caress you heroes, breakfast, razors edge etc etc) and the way the band moves instead of looking bored on stage and just trying to get through the set is refreshing from the music scene here in Boston here are some myspaces, I know that people will put down the music, scoff at that weird vocals and I don't mind that, sometimes the bands I list is not everyone's cut of tea. Just look out there, if you're bored search through friends list, some really great bands there. razors edge http://www.myspace.com/razorsedgejapan idol punch http://www.myspace.com/idolpunch 3 fill in the blanks http://www.myspace.com/fibcom last one for now jellyroll rockheads (yea i know) http://www.myspace.com/jellyrollrockheads

Wow, I really have to start paying attention to the Japanese scene. There's so much loving energy. I really couldn't get into massgrav, but the other bands you mentioned are great, especially Razors Edge.

For albums I'd suggest thrash em all and sweet ten thrashers, the latter is a collection of their best songs

Your Weird Uncle posted:what do you mean "yea i know"? rockheads loving rule. "the i know" comment is for the ridiculous name. There have been many a times where I would mention that band and just get stares I'm currently digging breakfast (all their stuff is great and such a wide range too), gently caress you heroes and idol punch the most right now. If you like horrorpunk like stuff check out balzac, pretty fun the first few listens too if you want something more "american hardcore" influenced check out fc five, I didn't dig their cd (recording felt too bland) but there a few gems between cds and their lives are pretty awesome.

I saw Phoenix Bodies and La Quiete tonight, and I just want to say that a crazy house show in Texas in August is not a good idea. Everyone was sweating so much that our hands were pruning, and there was enough sweat and condensation that my minidisc recorder got totally hosed. Also, the naked guys were a bit off-putting. But holy goddamn was it a great show anyway.

Read the last few pages and didn't see any mention of this. Someone made a Facebook event for The Fest 7 (Halloween!) and said that this was NOT the official band list, but WAS the list of bands who have already agreed to play. I dunno what this is supposed to entail, and I dunno who the person who made the event is, but here's the list for you anyway: code:
Ampere, BTMI, Lemuria, The Ergs, The Lawrence Arms all returning, and stoked about each. Also stoked for The Measure (SA) and The Mae Shi, though I'd never expect the latter to play The Fest.

Wow I wish I were in Florida right now. Why does it seem like all the festivals are on the eastern side of the US? Closest thing to a punk festival around here seems to be Warped Tour.

Warped isn't a punk fest and I don't count "The Fest" to be either East coast just had Distort Fest 4 (Vancouver, already mentioned) and Summerfector 2 is August 29 - Sept 1 (Portland): Criminal Damage Defect Defect Dogsholylife Warcola Vorvadoss Estranged Leathercasket Death AD Resist Hellshock Appalachian Terror Unit Deadbydawn Squalors Against Empire Nux Vomica Wartorn Germ Attak Tragedy Death Raid Cop On Fire Blackout Mala Snagre Order of the Vulture Happy Bastards Deterrorformed Makal Drunken Boat Snuggle Slamdunk Order of the Gash Autistic Youth Neckties Make Me Nervous Warcorpse No Survivors Kudzu Machine Gun Congress Granted a lot of those are terrible bands, but a lot of good stuff. Worst Friends Day is August 29-31 too.

I think that's why I said "closest thing to a punk fest". Warped is pretty much Emo Tour these days it seems.

Really sad isn't it? I was planning on going this year (I wanna see Against Me!, The Horrorpops, The Vandals, GBH, TSOL, The Germs, and the Fabulous Rudies) but I'm getting a tattoo the day before. Doesn't seem super wise. Oh well. Summer punk shows are not working out well for me this year.

Ok well whatever you want to call skinny little fuckers with bad haircuts crying about their girlfriends. On a related note, what the hell is with MC Chris, Katy Perry, and MIA doing playing warped? MIA's kind of cool but only when you're in a gay bar. Man do I ever hate Katy Perry.

I know La Quiete are touring. I think they have a new split coming out soon, with Phoenix Bodies? New Raein is real good but having to listen to it on MySpace blows. What the hell is going on with Louise Cyphre these days?

Phoenix Bodies had tests of the split on tour with them, they were /150. I picked one up but haven't listened to it yet.

Wow, FC Five are on that list. They supported Miles Away over here in Australia not too long ago. I didn't make it to the show, but everyone I know couldn't stop going on about how loving amazing FC Five were. A lot of people even said they blew Miles Away off the stage which is crazy, because Miles Away rule.

Not an Anthem posted:Warped isn't a punk fest and I don't count "The Fest" to be either I'm confused about this statement. Warped, considering all the highly corporate backing it has, is certainly not a punk fest. However, why isn't The Fest? Last I checked, it was pretty much entirely DIY bands and the people who run it don't take any sort of corporate sponsorship. Most of the bands playing aren't in any way "hardcore", but most of them follow an ideal of DIY. I like hardcore just as much as the next guy, but I don't think that pop-punk doesn't count as punk. Perhaps I"m just curious about what constitutes punk in your ideal.
