Watched all of Dexter S1 this past 4 or 5 days, terribly amusing. Season 2 is on its way. And watching Angel now with the knowledge that Ben Edlund was involved (without knowing that during the original run! jesus!) is making it that much better. I find Angel is just overall better, and mostly because it mostly does not star Buffy. As a Buffy fan, Buffy is the worst part of either show, all the side characters are much better than whenever they decide to focus on her e/n drama. At least once they started exploring the Slayer mythos she became interesting. Angel starts as a detective show that turns into its own supernatural character comedy/drama, and while it's not Firefly, it's cool. And FWIW, I started watching B5 with Season 2 and only a basic synopsis, and it was great throughout.

So I just finished the third series of Doctor Who last night. I cannot believe that season. Based on Rose Tyler and what I've seen of Donna Noble, I think Martha Jones was the best sidekick ever. I'm almost sad she and Captain Jack were only both regulars for the time of the last story arc since I thought both were badasses. I think the Master as done in this series is the best interpretation of his character I've ever seen, one of the greatest TV villains I've ever seen, and easily the best Doctor Who arc I've seen so far. I was seriously blown away by the Master's arc. I thought John Simm's performance was awesome, just the right mix of the corny original run and the new life the producers are trying to breathe into this series. I loved all the plot twists, and I just couldn't believe how well all the loose ends got tied up and everything reached a conclusion. I wish the producers intended to bring him back, but I know why they're reluctant. Still, I think the most suspense the show has is when the Doctor is up against a villain who is his equal in so many ways. I've already seen a bit of Series 4 here and there. I really dug the library two-parter, but other than that I haven't seen anything that beats the third series.

I've seen all of the new series and most of the classic, and I have to say series 3/season 29 is one of the best they've ever produced. The only episodes I think are bad are the Dalek 2-parter, and Lazarus Experiment and 42 aren't masterpieces, but the rest of the series is just fantastic. Smith and Jones. Gridlock. And then the 3-pronged attack of Human Nature/Family of Blood and Blink, which I think are two of the best stories in the entire show. It's interesting that you didn't hate Last of the Time Lords with a passion - that makes two of us. That said, series 4 isn't nearly as good. Library 2-parter is great, yup (did you know the writer of that story is taking over the show next year?), and the episode after that (seems that bracket is pretty good every year), but the rest is at best generic and at worst downright embarrassing (Journey's End, I'm looking at you). The best nuWho series' are 1 and 3. Let's hope 5 continues the odd-numbered trend.

Currently on Season 4 of Entourage and thoroughly enjoying it. Didn't really like it until Season 2 but now I'm hooked. Ari is awesome. In between I'm trying to start watching Nip/Tuck but I'm finding it a little depressing. I think I will power through it once I'm done Entourage though. After that I plan on attempting The X Files and Big Love again. I've watched the first few episodes of both but wasn't really into them, but hoping I can gain a little more enthusiasm soon.

Spooks is blowing my mind. They keep replacing the main characters! First Tom goes, now Zoe, and I had to read up on Danny and find out he gets killed. I've never seen a show to ditch all the main characters like this from season to season. It also surprised me that they got rid of them mid-season instead of in the season finale's. I do like Adam as a replacement for Tom though. He's like Tom, but without the love drama crap.

My roommates, who know how much I adored David Boreanaz in "Buffy," decided that I needed to get addicted to Bones, so they put on a great season 3 episode when they knew I was coming home. Of course, I watched and immediately got sucked in. I'm only 6 episodes in to season 1 but I am already in love with this show. I love all the characters and I can't wait to see what happens with all of them. I'm especially amused by the fact that Booth's girlfriend is played by whoever was Amber (aka Cutthroat Bitch) from "House."

In the past month I've burned through/finished off Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, True Blood, and I'm halfway through Big Love. Up next is Carnivale, Deadwood, Oz, season five of The Wire, Six Feet Under, The Shield, and The Sopranos. With the Spring lineup starting this Friday into mid-February I don't know where I'll find the time.

I'd push Carnivale and Deadwood to the back because they don't have satisfying endings.

Someone in a Spooks thread once posted about how the show was getting less realistic, and I agreed with them completely. In the first season (episode even?) there was a terrorist threat to shoot rockets at a nuclear plant. They called in snipers and the terrorists were taken out. Later in the series, you have the MI5 agents raiding buildings themselves, shooting people etc... rather than gathering intel like they did in the first couple of seasons. It is still a really good show, and hasn't gotten to CSI like levels of unbelievability yet, but I liked the first seasons a lot more than the latter ones.

The most obvious sign that Spooks was getting unrealistic was the pretty people invasion. I preferred the original cast with normal looking people.

That's pretty much the problem with almost all series, I feel. It's probably me, but it really kills it for me if a show only has photomodels who have to play the role of regular joe character. And if they need an ugly character, they just take one of these drop dead gorgeous people and give them geeky glasses and braces or something. Is there a law against ordinary-looking people playing in mayor series/movies or something?

Last weekend I figured I'd watch the second season but a few minutes into the second episode I hit the wall and can't work up any enthusiasm for continuing. Not that it's bad, but the big story arcs move so slowly, and the little events and problems that the main characters have to contend with are kind of trite. Plus I was hoping someone would address the issue of 'what would happen if someone suggested a threesome, after all it's not cheating'. Oh well, will probably get through season two this weekend. There are three good episodes of Torchwood - they are episodes 10, 11 and 12 series 1. Thanks to this thread, I burned my way through season 1 of Weeds a few days ago. While I enjoyed it quite a bit, I don't have any major urge to seek out season 2. Currently half way through season 1 of Damages, and I like it a lot. Close and Danson are very good. I've just finished the episode where Fiske is at the therapists and he's talking to her and he just stairs blankly and then opens his mouth and blood and teeth come spewing out. That genuinley took me by surprise.

I've been in love with 30 Rock. I started watching midway through S1 thanks to the late night reruns on Channel 5 (UK). I then bought the DVDs of S1 and S2 and burned through them really quickly. I just have S3 to catch up on now. The ad's actually made it look kinda rubbish but it's really funny and Liz Lemon is probably the best female lead I've seen in any show recently and Alec Baldwin is fantastic too.

The Midwest snowstorm has canceled all local sporting events, rendering me free from work for the last three days. I've been avoiding the near zero temperatures all day today watching Rescue Me Season One and holy poo poo, how did I not watch this show sooner. I'm a glutton for punishment and closure, so no matter how much I want to stop watching 24 season 5, I can't. However, since I keep hearing season 6 is just as bad (if not worse) than season 5, I think I might be able to convince myself to skip it and go right to season 7. I've plowed through the first twelve or so episodes the past two days, and will probably finish it off soon, just so it's over with Also plowed through Californication season 1 in a single day recently. Now that's a show with "watchability". The girlfriend and I are also watching Six Feet Under at the moment, but we're not binging on it, we're trying our best to saviour it. It's easily my favourite tv drama.

Watching the recent 4 episodes of season 7 of 24 got me wanting to watch this show again. So I just started binging my way through Season 4 after which I'll go on to season 5. Season 6 was terrible, as was season 3 (I hated Jack having to share screen time with that loving Chase dude). Seasons 1 and 2 seem almost too old to watch and I've already seen them a couple times so I just figured I'd go with 4 and 5 which I've only seen once and I remember liking them both. So I have some good binging ahead of me. I'm also planning on going through both seasons of Temptation Island which is on Hulu, but I'm not sure when I'll get around to that. -Blackadder- fucked around with this message at 08:09 on Jan 18, 2009 |

I just finished Six Feet Under this past Saturday, watching the last 9 eps in one sitting. I gotta say, I have never cried at anything that was not "real life" like I cried during this. I had actual tears rolling down my face during the last few minutes of the last episode and during the funeral for Nate episode. And I don't even feel stupid for doing it either. What a great show. Easily the best drama I have ever watched.

It got so far fetched in the end, but my wife and I jonesed for it between seasons and the final episode, particularly the genius montage at the end brought a tear to my eye. Right now, we're two seasons into Weeds, which I discovered I could stream through Netflix by way of my Xbox. I can't stream the third season, but it's coming in the mail. Also on the way is the first two seasons of Big Love and The Tudors (which right now I couldn't care less about but I know I'll wind up hooked in the end). Prior to Weeds, though, we couldn't get enough True Blood. I tend to do this. Since I don't have HBO or Showtime, I get the shows in the aftermath on DVD or just download them in batches and we binge on an entire season over the course of a few days or a week depending on how long the season is. We made it through four seasons of Lost in about two months.
