Yea that's what I heard, and the reason I decided to get caught up quickly. I will say this, season 5 ends much stronger than it starts.

CTU breaches / escapes, Kim Bauer, Lynn McGill, the whole hostage situation at the airport ... season 5 was pretty lovely until we find out President Logan is involved

I think you could probably say the same thing for the hated season 6. It's over the top and ridiculous, but I always looked at 24 that way. Go ahead. Nuke Valencia. Take that Magio Mountain!

I think nobody really had a problem with the suitcase nuke going off or thought that was too "over the top". It was gutsy and loving awesome for the story.

Season 6 just peaked to early with the nuke and went on a slow but steady decline until the Fayed showdown. Then it came up with "Ooooodrey" and the Chinese and jumped off a loving cliff, at what, hour 16? Can't remember.

I still can't bring myself to rewatch season 6 and I doubt I ever will.

So I just finished the third series of Doctor Who last night. I cannot believe that season. Based on Rose Tyler and what I've seen of Donna Noble, I think Martha Jones was the best sidekick ever. I'm almost sad she and Captain Jack were only both regulars for the time of the last story arc since I thought both were badasses.

Donna Noble as a companion will surprise you as a companion. Most of us dislike how Martha Jones ended up because she could have been an awesome companion, but was reduced to puppy-dog, unrequited romance crap.

I was seriously blown away by the Master's arc. I thought John Simm's performance was awesome, just the right mix of the corny original run and the new life the producers are trying to breathe into this series. I loved all the plot twists, and I just couldn't believe how well all the loose ends got tied up and everything reached a conclusion.

Watch out for bringing this opinion into the Doctor Who thread ;)

I just burnt through it again and you're right, but I did like the addition of George and I really felt sorry for him, plus him crying over Ruth's body at the end was just heartbreaking :( George ALMOST made up for Claire's art school and Brenda's apartment. Although in the end, I have to say I hated most of the characters, plus the line where Ruth says to Brenda "He never was able to love you the way you needed" or something, made me hate Ruth so drat much, I mean..jesus christ, that was cold and Brenda was a huge bitch. /rant. But yeah, season 4 was HORRIBLE but the ending made up for it.

Oh yes, yes, yes.... that's BANG on the money!
Finished season 1 of Damages last night, and wow, I was very impressed.
Just when I was worried that it was becoming a bit predictable, they go ahead and throw a spanner in the works when Fiske killed himself. And I thought it was pretty obvious that they were going to make out that Patty was the bad girl and involved in some way, but they seemed to make her out as the good guy towards the end, but then BAM, that twist right at the end.

Loved it. What type of spelling is 'Hewes', though? jesus.
Can't wait for season 2.

Echoing the sentiments for Damages - I started yesterday night and had to stop after 7 episodes in at 5:30 a.m. Did not read the spoiler two posts up, though.

The end of each episode caught me off guard, I could hardly believe that another 45 minutes had just passed. The writing so far is incredibly tight with little to no fluff.

I'll most likely finish it tonight.

I've just finished seasons 1&2 of The Wire and seasons 1&2 of Trailer Park Boys. I have to say that the second season of The Wire was a bit disappointing, but Trailer Park Boys is hilarious. My favorite character is Bubbles, and the chemistry between Ricky and Julian is off the charts. All the characters are reasonably believable, and have many dimensions (even shirtless Randy). Registering here and finding out abooot it was well worth my 9.95.

I haven't seen Trailer Park Boys, but there's a character named Bubbles in it, too? Interesting coincedence that both of the shows you mentioned have one.

Season two of The Wire was my second-to-least favorite (after season five). I just didn't care much about the drama at the docks. Seasons three and especially four are WELL worth watching (season four is probably the best season of any television show ever, as a few other people in this thread have mentioned), so don't blow off the series just because you were let down by season two.

Yeah that's the thing with TV shows, some you just don't "get".

I loved HIMYM from Episode 1, "Big Bang Theory" simply rocks and I enjoy "My name is Earl", and I quite like 30Rock.
Subsequently people tried to introduce me to "Seinfeld", which I just don't think is funny, but far worse for me is "Curb your enthusiasm". Most people think that's weird that I don't get it but I guess it really comes down to tiny factors that make or break a show for you.
Take Barney from HIMYM and his high-fives. You either love it and laugh like mad or you think it's just plain corny.

Don't buy too many episodes at a time; eventually, they hit a tipping point, where it sucks beyond any comprehension. Granted, the first season(s) is/are great, particularly Luthor's quotes and anecdotes.

Yep, except I didn't much care for "My name is Earl". HIMYM has likable characters that have great chemistry together. A lot of people like Big Bang Theory because they can relate to the nerdiness of the characters at least in some way. There has to be at least one sticking point that the show builds on. Both Seinfeld and CYE are over the top, but you can still relate to both shows quite a bit... which to me makes both very appealing. Also the mixture of subtle with not so subtle humor. I think both are great, but I can see how some people might hate them

My friends and I have a running joke where we riff off of scenes from TPB/The Wire with the two Bubbles characters transposed (which is easier than you might expect, e.g. both characters use shopping carts for money-making purposes).

And Randy is an awesome character for reasons I can't quite put my finger on, especially in later seasons.

Currently about halfway through S3 of the new Doctor Who (the last episode I watched was The Lazarus Experiment). The David Tennant stuff is okay, though I don't think it holds a candle to the Christopher Eccleston season.

Also have watched the first few episodes of Torchwood, which is okay, though (like a lot of the Tennant Dr. Who episodes), it's more something I don't mind having on in the background while I'm puttering around the house, and not something I'm actively transfixed by. My friend tells me it gets a lot better near the end of the season, so I'll stick with it for that long at least.

HIMYM is a cute show -- Alyson Hannigan is great and I like Neil Patrick Harris, but the laugh track kind of kills it for me and it's not something I can see myself binging on. I think I got about halfway through the first season a while ago.

Also I have been working my way through "I, Claudius", which (if you can get past the (relative) lack of bewbs and gore) in my opinion blows HBO's "Rome" out of the water.

Well, due to many a goon recommendation here and there, and despite my distaste towards Andy Dick, I picked up NewsRadio, the whole goddamn thing, at Best Buy for $50. And now, about 4 episodes into season four, I don't ever want it to end. I'm absolutely dreading season five, because Phil Hartman is the heart and soul of that show, and I'm gonna end up bawling like a baby at the first episode without him. Aside from that, it's probably one of my top five TV shows, along with AD, HYMIM, House, and Big Bang Theory. I have a soft spot for laugh track sitcoms, and this is definitely one of the best.

I'm hoping that I might get to Sports Night soon, if I can find it again. Also, when I'm done with NewsRadio, because of my exercise schedule being solely based on watching two episodes of *Thirty Minute Show*, I'm going to end up going through Arrested Development for a third time. That show is amazing.

Well now I'm watching Season 2 of 24. I forgot what an unbelievably stupid loving moron Kim Bauer is. The writers just did not try with her at all.

How the hell are you going to go to jail for abusing a kid who has months-old, even years-old signs of abuse when you've only been working for the family as a nanny for a few days? And no one is going to convict you of kidnapping when all you did was take the kid from her house to a hospital after her father nearly caves in her skull.

But hey instead doing the simplest and smartest thing which is to just explain to the cops that the dad is a wife/child-beating psycho, something easily proven with a minimal amount of investigation, you kidnap the kid from the hospital and steal the dads car. Way to loving go, you goddamn imbecile.

I enjoyed the first scene with her in her underwear after all Elisha Cuthbert in her prime is smoking hot, but otherwise her character makes me want to shoot my television.

Just finished Six Feet Under. The first three seasons were great, but by the end of the fourth they somehow made it so I hated every character. It started with Nate who was a jackass from the beginning, followed shortly by Claire and Ruth. The only bearable character until the end that I had any feeling for was Rico and maybe Vanessa (and David at times). Because of this, the final season and the final episode were completely emotionless for me.

edit: Whoever compared Lisa in Six Feet Under to Amy in True Blood in the True Blood thread was crazy. Amy is tame in comparison to the poo poo character that Lisa was.

I love SFU. One of the best shows I have ever watched, like I have mentioned previously. However, I would be a liar if I did not say that they almost lost me during season 3 and parts of 4. In fact, at the beginning of season 3 I stopped about 4 eps in and did not watch another episode for months. It wasn't until I began reading this thread that I finished it, and I was so glad I did. I personally did not have problems with changes in the characters, or problems with 'uncharacteristic' actions among them. In fact, the inconsistencies only made it more realistic in many ways. People gently caress up, and sometimes we are all self-centered, deluded assholes. Sure there were a few outlandish and semi-stupid twists, but overall it was completely worth it.
