Is there a resurgence in Capris in the UK lately? Seen a lot of them on the road. A friend of mine owned the last ever Brooklands Capri made, he sold it because it was just too mint to drive.

Aye it's a 2.8i with a 5 speed, not quite as fun as the old 4 speed but its more comfortable. Id really like both a mk1 and a mk2, the mk1 is just beautiful to look at and the mk2 has a certain class to it which neither of the other marks do. The mk3 is by far the meanest looking of the bunch though and I love it. As to a resurgence I think it's just the summer time and they're all coming out to play. I know pretty much all the cars locally and there really isn't that many. How long ago did your mate have the Brookie? I've probably seen it at some point - there's only one or two which are in 'as new' condition now, the crowds they attract at shows are something else.

He traded it for a DeLorean to the PO, if that helps.

Why was the Fox-body Capri bad? It looked way more aggressive than the Mustang, and it had that cool Roush homologation bubble rear glass for Trans-Am. You should be mad at Ford NA for bringing that stupid Australian Capri here.

And, yeah, I want to physically punch the guy that thought calling a Miata-esque, FWD, two-seat convertible a "Capri" was a brilliant plan right in the loving balls. I'm actually hoping to sell off some chaff and go buy a Mk.I soon. It's too bad I live in the Midwest and all the good Capris are on the coasts.

Whoop Whoop new car time! My Jeep's been giving me some trouble pretty much every other week so I figured I should pick up some reliable transportation in the case that the Jeep brakes and I can't easily fix it. Saw this on Craigslist about an hour after it was posted. Went up and drove it the next day and bought it 30 minutes later. 1989 Ford Escort GT Click here for the full 1024x768 image. It's in amazing shape. Power windows, cruise control, AC, the only things it doesn't have are power windows and locks. The seller bought it in this shape and never bothered to fix it. Click here for the full 1024x768 image. Please excuse my bad photo. The glare from the sun was pretty strong so I didn't see that I was off center so much. The bumper is crunched up on the left side but it's almost all there so I'll either try fiberglassing/bondoing it back into one piece or hit up a pick & pull for a replacement. Probably the former as there are no junkyards around here with any 88-90 GTs. Click here for the full 1024x768 image. Engine compartment is very clean. The motor runs very quietly and she starts right up. There's very little rust, just a small bit on one wheel arch and 2 small spots in the floorboards that I'll hit with some rust neutralizer until I have time to repair it properly. Transmission shifts drat smooth and it has more get up and go than I remembered Escorts having. The only real flaw is a bad driver side wheel bearing which I have sitting on my workbench downstairs. I was planning to install it tonight but it seems some of my sockets are missing. All in all a pretty solid car that will hopefully net me 30+ mpg for the rest of the summer. Oh and I paid $300 for it + $28 for the bearing and $76 for title and plate. Not too shabby right?

This is the Fag Wagon. I could have linked any picture of any Volvo 2 series from 1975 to 1993 on the Internet and nobody would be able to prove it wasn't mine. It hauls five full-grown 6'+ adults comfortably, is made of pure Volvonium and as such is impenetrable, and is cheap as gently caress to insure as a 19 year old (90/mo). It's also slow as gently caress, gets terrible mileage (18mpg average city/highway), and has idling issues (probably the throttle body. Finding it out soon). I loving love this thing. 1993 Volvo 245 Ignore the sticker. obligatory glamor shot

How often do you drive it versus how often it blows up? The market crash sure helped make them 'affordable'; 60-70k can certainly buy this car if you shop around diligently, it's not a six-figure ride these days. I'm a very new owner, so (of course) so far it's been a 1:0 awesome driving/blowing up ratio. I'll post a bit more of my experience with it once I've had it longer.

Nothing matter when you are lowered. Not bump steer, not your underbody, not axle longevity, and certainly not handling.

Baby Hitler posted:Nothing matter when you are lowered. Not bump steer, not your underbody, not axle longevity, and certainly not handling. As long as one acknowledges that slamming a car is purely a cosmetic effect, it's OK in my book. It can look ridiculously good in some cases. The problem is that most people believe lowering their cars beyond sane levels improves handling by lowering the center of gravity, when in reality it fucks up the suspension geometry and alignment of the car. It's especially funny to see people tooling along the freeway sitting half an inch off the ground with tons of camber dialed in...have fun with your tire wear! edit: case in point, that silvia posted in the hot cars thread.

metalhead posted:Do you rub over bumps? That thing is slammed! I rub if I hit a bump going too fast, but I usually drive really slow and avoid bad roads. I also agree with what you said about lowering in general too. But yeah driving a car like that is great and a pain at the same time. I don't mind driving slow and taking my time but sometimes having to take a different route or straight up avoid certain driveways can suck. My S Pipe has a few dents as well as my muffler. I'm on B&G RS2 coilovers which are amazingly comfortable for my ride height because you don't lower the spring to go lower, you lower the shock body down into the mount. Plus they have adjustable dampening on every shock. I also had an alignment a week after installation. Couldn't get back to stock specks on camber so I'm about -1 all around, but my toe and caster are all good and my tires have been fine. With that said I'm off to get my drat wheels balanced. It owns having a friend in trade school for an automotive degree lol. Here's a pic on all stock wheels after I got tint done. Weezy88 fucked around with this message at 08:22 on Jul 9, 2009 |

Thanks man, much appreciated. I waited a while to get wheels because I couldn't find anything I really liked, then I saw these. I knew I wanted a mesh wheel but the only ones I liked were the Work VS-XX and I couldn't justify spending like $800 a wheel on my 19K car. I found these a few weeks ago and fell in love. They only costs about $160 a wheel for 18's, but they are a little on the heavy side. They also make a hyper silver color, but I wanted to keep it stealthy with the dark gunmetal. If they made a gold I probably would have gotten that, though. I just got back from getting them balanced and I'll have some better pictures later today.
