You guys are lucky to have friends who listen to the same music as you do. I have one - my roommate. Here in the Bible-belt everyone assumes screaming/growling = devil music :argh:

I think that's just a general association people make when they don't listen to this kind of music. I think when people hear heavy music with gutturals, screams or any harsh vocals, they tie it back to that old ":rock:80s metal dude, rock on with your horns up, Pantera bro, Metallica man:rock:" poo poo.

I get asked by family on a regular basis if my band plays "heavy metal" and how they never got into "head banging" music when they were younger. And then there are people like my dad who swear that even bands where the lyrics are very clearly pro-Jesus and pro-Christianity is Satan's music because the vocals aren't clean. :iiam:

This is my mom, spot-on. I was letting her listen to mewithoutYou (not exactly thread-related, but definitely a Christian band), and all she could talk about was how much "the lead-singer sounded like he was on drugs" or how "there's no way this music could be Christian".

Oh well, it's no biggie I guess.

I have a question: Is Enter Shikari classified as more of a electronic metalcore band or more along the lines of just electronic. Their most recent CD, Common Dreads, isn't exactly to my tastes, but I do kind of like their first one that is a little closer to metalcore.

They lost a vocalist somewhere down the line I believe. On their earlier albums Kids Kids Kids and Courtside Seats go the Greatest gently caress of All Time they still had him but he left for some reason.

Agreed about their new album. It's very good at times and very poor at others - it seems as if the vocalist got a bit lazy.

Their best song is in fact Tragic Tragic Track Jacket.

P.S. If you want to listen to music that will keep you from sleeping at night, listen to Machinist.

Can anyone recommend me some metalcore that sounds like Johnny Truant? They're a loving amazing band and I'm really glad I got to see them before they split up (like, literally days before they did). I hadn't listened to them in a while and they came up on my iPod's shuffle today in the office and I was probably the only dude in a cubicle to headbang like a motherfucker in the entire building.

I've never heard of them before, and I only listened to two songs of theirs, but I would say to maybe give Carnifex a shot. I'm not amazing at associating sounds with other sounds, though, so I could be way off :3:

That isn't bad but it's still a bit too fast, and I'm not a fan of the really deep guttural screams. I just love JT's vocals and the slower melodic stuff they've got. They have some deep vox too, but I somehow associate Carnifex's with pigsqueal lite :(

Thanks though. I've been looking for a long time and I can't really find a band that plays the exact same style (seriously, I'd be happy with a copycat band).

You might like Architects. They have a similar vocal style.

Also, if you could give us an example of a slower melodic part that you dig, I'm sure it'll be easier for us to find you something you might like.

I'm a big fan of the Bullet for my Valentine type of "core" even though I know it's considered kind of lame. That being said some awesome bands from that genre are Sonic Syndicate and Dead by April. If anyone can give me some more of those kind of bands I'd feel mighty good.

Edit: Someone told me those bands are considered "popcore" which I feel really gay saying.

Ahem, if you like Sonic Syndicate, you will enjoy In Flames (especially the newer albums), just in case you haven't heard them/of them by now.

Don't see anyone mentioning Burning Human. loving awesome, if you like your metal simple, heavy and without constant blast-blast-widlley-widdley-riff-riff poo poo, check these guys out.

That really reminds me of Job for a Cowboy's Genesis CD. I didn't particularly care for it, but I'm sure others really like it. I just like my breakdowns too much :3:

If you like Sonic Syndicate then you will REALLY like the last few Soilwork tapes. I don't know what the hell this "popcore" stuff is supposed to be, just sounds like another stupidly-named fake subgenre for elitists to make fun of bands they don't like. They just sound like melodic death metal to me, albeit a more "mainstream" variety. You know, the Soilwork school as compared to the Amon Amarth school or whatever.

This is getting confusing now.

Yeah I agree. I'm diggin' Soilwork though, I actually like some of their earlier stuff too, when I was looking around on YouTube I ran across the song Follow the Hollow which was really awesome. While jumping around I also found the "metal" band In This Moment, their new album is pretty pop punk or something-pop but I love it nonetheless :).

I often describe the Eternal Lord album as what Emmure should have released after "Goodbye to the Gallows" if they had learned from their mistakes. Granted, "The Respect Issue" has some good tapes on it but there was so much potential squandered. Eternal Lord isn't really original or anything but they're just so drat good anyway.

On a related note I got a sampler CD the other day of a few songs from the new Emmure tape which I haven't listened to yet, so we'll see if they cleaned up their act a bit.

Saw FYS/SYG a couple days ago at the Meridian, they were pretty excellent.

I was wondering, has anybody heard Jonny Craig's (of Emarosa/DGD) solo stuff? http://www.myspace.com/jonnycraig

I recently heard the whole album and it is particularly earpleasuring when you listen to it as an album rather than individual songs. I was going to make a thread for the new album, but there probably wouldn't be enough fans here.
