Of 90s Oldsmobiles that is one of the more interesting ones with a 3.4L 24V DOHC V-6 with two cams for each cylinder bank. Lots of maintenance, but 220 or so horsepower which was pretty good for the time. They also made that model as a sedan and a convertible.

I thought they were so awesome. Later on in high school, my auto shop class had a 1989 black & silver Cutlass Supreme coupe that was donated to our school after a run of them were damaged in a flood at the production plant. Instead of demolishing them, GM donated them to schools. We were not allowed to drive it on the street, or GM would take it back. So my auto class got to rebuild it, and it was showroom-quality when we were done. It only had 8 miles on it; the furthest it ever drove was from one end of the shop to the other. I think it has since been crushed. DropShadow fucked around with this message at 18:33 on Aug 31, 2009 |

I already posted this in the cheap car gloat thread but here goes: Thursday night I bought a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 for $1100. The car has only 131k miles, has power windows/locks/mirrors/sunroof, cruise control, air conditioning, a radio with six-disc CD changer, and every single thing works. The ZX2 is not everyone's favorite car, but it has a nice little 2.0L 16V DOHC motor, a five-speed manual and a fully independent suspension designed by Mazda. I have a 1991 Mercury Tracer LTS posted earlier in this thread. The Tracer is going to trade all its interesting parts over to this car and then the Tracer will be sold. I have wanted to do track days for a long time and this car should be a lot safer than my LTS that had no airbags and signs of a fairly serious collision on the driver's side. You shouldn't take anything to the track that you can't write off it ends up crumpled into a ball. Anyway, here are the pics: Oh yeah and it said this on my new insurance card:

As you know, the ZX2 is a BG chassis car. So, if you don't like the power output of the poo poo-tastic Zetec, you can easily bolt in a; - 1.8L BP - 2.5L KLZE Then it becomes an interesting car. Also, my old ZX2 was a 'cool' model too (until a truck with roof trusses decided to run a stop sign); (car came with the covers)

DOHC and SOHC always refer to the number of cams per bank. FWIW, my friend had an older(1992 I think) GP GTP with the 6 speed manual transmission. I have never seen one since, though I can see how that engine and trans. combo would pretty much be considered the king poo poo back in the early 90's. We also used to have a white Olds Cutlass convertible at school, as well as an LT-1 T/A and a 30th anniversary Z/28.

Well I will resurrect this thread. I have been lusting after this car with the rest of AI for a while. And today, I became the proud owner of a White Hot G8 GT. Let me tell you this car moves. For only having 360hp, it certainly can get out of its own way. The GM rebates and incentives certainly helped and I think I didn't do too bad with the total cost either. $27k I guess you can add me to the list of AI posters that have these rocket sleds now. Hi AI! I've been wanting to post my car up for over a year now, but somebody stole my camera while back. No matter now I have a new one. I've had this 2005 Civic Si HFP for a year now. My last car was a non-GSR Acura Integra so the power upgrade was nice. Plus it has some of the most comfortable bucket seats inside it. Im not in love with the kit that was on it, but that was the original owner of the car's decision. I do feel gypped though from having the 6spd, 190 HP engine that came with the next edition of the SI. It's roomy and looks cooler than a fit IMO. I love it for what it's worth. The car sounds good at low RPM while not being too gaudy at high RPM. Now I need to work on putting my T3/T4b into it because v-tech is not enough to make me happy.

Hell mine didn't even come with an owners manual so I am having to figure stuff out on my own. But the dealer is supposed to order me one. If you don't mind did yours come with xm radio asctivated? Because my xm isn't turned on and the dealer isn't calling me back.

I think the GM curse of DasVolk has rubbed off on me. I have had this drat G8 4 friggen days and the leather is already starting to peel from the door handle. I mean seriously GM, build quality. I guess its a good thing I didn't buy this car based solely on the quality of its interior and instead for that monster of an engine under the hood.

If you have a cupholder in the rear floorboard (rather than in the passthrough in the back seat) you have a 09.5 which should have Bluetooth. If your rear cupholder is in the passthrough you have an 09 (like me) with no Bluetooth. I had to call OnStar to activate XM radio while I was sitting at the dealership. Maybe that might be what you could try? I am interested in getting hold of that reprogrammed Onstar box with Bluetooth included. Also, I tuned mine with the Superchips Cortex today and holy poo poo is it like a whole different car now. I already had an intake and axle backs and the tune really woke it up.

_firehawk posted:My rear seat is setup like this. But I bet if I had a GXP I would have the working bluetooth right? Not necessarily. There were 09 and 09.5 GXPs I think. Best bet is to wait for Chris White over on G8board to get the reprogrammed Onstar units with Bluetooth generally available. It's in the works. Not sure what his business model will be - if he will provide the module or if you'll have to find it, etc... but he has been able to get the Bluetooth retrofitted in to the 09s. That's what I am planning on doing with mine. Mine didn't show Bluetooth on the window sticker so I wasn't expecting it, but as I understand several people were told by the dealerships that their car would have it when in fact it did not. That to me is justification for not adding features in mid model year. Leads to a lot of dissatisfied customers with the early build models.
