I have a problem. For years I've been looking for music similar to any and all of the instrumental songs by In Flames, with no luck. I love the music in just about every In Flames song, but hate the screaming. There must be some loving band out there that puts out incredible heavy, melodic guitar riffs relying on harmonies and whatnot without some Scandinavian douchebag trying to pop my ear drums. This song (it's worth it!), for instance, from 2:08 to 3:10-ish is quite possibly my favorite minute of music ever, yet I loathe the rest of the drat thing (guess why). Happily In Flames do have a few awesome instrumentals. Unhappily, I've been listening to them semi-regularly for at least 10 years. Dialogue With The Stars Accoustic Medley Man Made God Jester's Dance I'd rather any suggested songs be instrumental, but I could deal with non-screaming singing too. (My only example is at the ending of Yndi Halda - Dash and blast, but the second part with the humming is nowhere to be found on YouTube since the song is 17 minutes long.) Okay, I posted about Kinski in the post-rock thread, but I was thinking what I liked about them, and I'm realizing that the aspect I like most about them is less present in most post-rock (I think), so I wanted to ask here. Their first album, SpaceLaunch for Frenchie, had a cover of Spacemen 3's 'Losing Touch with my Mind', that is very heavy with a sort of warm 'wall of feedback' so to speak. I'm HUGE fan of Gnarls Barkley. IMO they made two of the best albums in the history of music. Yet, they continued to surprise me with their talent when I heard the live version of their song Transformer that they recorded at Abbey Road(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTp17VO6Yws). I did get Danger's Grey Album downloaded but it's still in FLAC format(not sure how to convert it to mp3). As far as Cee-Lo goes I haven't really looked into his other work aside from a few Goodie Mob tracks. Recommendations? I think the problem is that that style of metal was really pioneered along with the screaming, and I can't really think of any band offhand that reverse engineered that sound back to clean vocals. I know these are pretty general so I hope they're not too retardedly off base. I don't know how well versed you are in metal so I hope I'm not embarrassing myself with this, but Iron Maiden basically invented the twin metal guitar harmony stuff, so if you don't know their stuff, give it a shot for some old style stuff. You could try some Symphony X as well, they got a bit more modern harmonizing/shredding stuff happening with a clean singer. You should repost the request in the metal thread, I'm sure that there's some people there who could point at something more specific.

RJD2, Gorillaz, The Avalanches, The Fugees, De La Soul, The Roots, Handsome Boy Modelling School, N.E.R.D... also maybe check out classic funk, soul and r&b artists (Rick James, James Brown, Al Green) cause GB is as strongly influenced by that sound as they are by hip hop

I've been listening to Telefon Tel Aviv - Immolate Yourself. It's really grown on me to become one of my favourite albums and it is so different to their others. Problem is I'm really finding it hard to find stuff similar to it. It's been bugging me for months. Closest I can find is some stuff by Junior Boys. I've heard a few people say it's similar to Depeche Mode but it really isn't. Here are a few tracks: The Birds - this would probably be the best example of what I'm looking for. A friend of mine gave me Shinichi Osawa's "The One" a while back and I've been listening to it a lot lately. I haven't really been able to find many other decent artists that are similar besides maaaaybe Basement Jaxx. Any suggestions for others? The opening track, "Star Guitar" is pretty great, as is the original version by The Chemical Brothers. Being an old fart, I recently discovered I'm really enjoying Black Eyed Peas 'The END', particularly for driving. I also like Pink's more high energy music, like 'U and Ur Hand'. I don't want rave music, but just funky high energy stuff to listen to on the road (it would be no problem if I had satellite in the car, but I don't). Pandora is pointing me to Rihanna and Katy Perry which is fine, but I was hoping for more of the group dynamic.

This is kind of a weird request, but every so often driving to and from college I spend about an hour in range of this radio station that seems to play nothing but bluegrass songs about murdering cheating wives or dying of black lung, and I loving love it. Can anyone recommend some really metal bluegrass? edit: to clarify, though I'd love to hear some actual bluegrass metal, I'm looking for bluegrass that's more grim/dark, and not the real perky stuff. Bonus points if the vocals don't have that weird nasal thing going on.

I need a song for a slideshow I'm doing for a non profit corp event (showing our bank sponsors that we're not wasting their money) , we work with homeless and people having foreclosure troubles . Need something uplifting that will remind people what we're doing here. I need to hit the right note, uplifting but not depressing. I was thinking about Sigur ros because I've heard some of their stuff and thought it might fit this purpose. Can someone give me some recommendations?

From your post, I'd say you're a candidate for recommending some good Melodic Metalcore to; which makes me happy, because all my favorite bands rock this genre. Unfortunately, it's difficult to separate the screaming from the metal (by Metal's definition, the two tend to be mutually inclusive  ), but there are some good tracks out there which aren't as ear-destroying as others.For straight up good instrumentals with a minimum of screaming, you should have a listen at Trivium first. Not that the band doesn't do a ton of screaming, but they have a few really great tracks that aren't so big on heavy vocals, and focus more on instrumentals: The Crusade is one of my favorite songs by them, and by far my favorite album. No vocals at all in this track, just eight glorious minutes of badass metal music and guitar solos. Becoming the Dragon is another good song. The vocals are pretty similar to old Metallica - heavy, but not too scream-y. There is a short portion of the song where he does a little screaming, but it's like ten seconds long at most, then he goes into a guitar solo and back to the normal vocal style. Before you make fun of the singer for having such a heavy influence of Japanese culture in his artwork and lyrics, keep in mind that he is, in fact, Japanese-American This World Can't Tear Us Apart is another favorite of mine. Again, heavy lyrics, but no screaming. Plus, they do a little bit of melodic/harmonic singing in it. I can recommend a lot of other stuff very similar to this if you like Trivium
