Im riding Girl Mike Carroll deck that must be a fake because i cant find pics anywhere. Zebra stripe pattern from about 4 years ago. Extremely Sorry was dope. It needed better music I think. Apples and Rowley ripped as usual. The 'vert' parts were my favourite surprisingly. Bob on the mega [tre bs board!], Rune is super under appreciated and Lance seemed to be enjoying a sweet backyard session.

Nice! I love a bit of hardware porn. My 7.75 Heroin "Good Bannanas" deck. Spanking new 8" Mysterious Al Vs Enuff deck. I liked this series so much I got the rest of them for my wall. They're really bright, but matte painted like Creature decks. They're top printed and clear gripped as well, so they look pretty cool.

The rest of the Thrashed series from Siren Skateboards are pretty dope, to me anyways. http://sirenskate.com/about/ Though I don't have an iguana. I'm sure the guys at the skate shop sell them in the back.

I just got my first board in 4 years or so last weekend and I finally got to go try it out this afternoon. I can still do (small) ollies consistently and I managed to land a few shove its! It was really fun, but I repeatedly came within a foot of stomping on my glasses when they fell off my face. I need to find some kind of solution for that. I got the board from Bill's Wheels in Santa Cruz as recommended on page 1. I'll post a picture when I get my camera back.

I would recommend choosing them with a yellow/orange tint, increases contrast. Apart from that, people at the skatepark will tell you they look cool or just plain weird

He pulled it out, which was real impressive because the board got way in front of him. Here's is a picture of Bucky Lasek not standing in front of me. If you'd like to see such shots as, great air, ooops, there's Bucky's head, dammit, Lasek's right there and nose grind to- can't see, he's right there- I have those, too. Kidding aside, Bucky and Pierre-Luc Gagnon were blowing it out at practice. Bucky kept trying some weird shove it to grind thing and PLG just was lights outs.

Watched the feelin' minnesota video. The shots were all really good. The only thing that really bugged me was all the slow mo, especially during the ice shots. I get it, it was epic but I mean if I want to watch the video in the future I don't want to have to watch it at 2x speed. The tricks were all pretty good, the mini ramp sesh over the water looked super fun and the wheat field looked like a blast. My favourite part was the "first nice day of spring", everyone got some super good lines! It's cool you were a part of that soggybagel.

Old board porn: Granted it is a few years old, I don't ride as much as I used to. I only did the park after work a couple times this summer. Having an old man back sucks. I have always been into nice wheels, and these are my favorites. They've been around a while at this point.

Did some sketchy frontside tailslides on the world's smallest quarter pipe today. I figure it's progress because when I showed up I was just trying to get fakie nose stalls. And I also realized my deck has splits on a few hardware points so it's probably going to break soon.

So I got a wild hair up my rear end recently and decided I'd give skateboarding a try. I figured I'd save up some money and get myself a board in a month or two, but my girlfriend went out and got me a killer deck behind my back. For some reason I can't find pics of it on the element website, but it's a Shape #3 and it's green on top with clear griptape. Went out to a local shop and managed to fit it with shop bearings, blank wheels, and independent trucks for $80, which I found to be a drat good deal for my own complete. I'm in the process of learning how to tic-tac in both directions effectively - right now I can only go in a continuous circle in the direction of my toes (backside?). I'm also starting to get a lot more comfortable on the board after some embarrassing low-speed rear end bustings - lean forward! Anyway, figured I'd post here and say thanks, as this thread was my impetus to get into all this at 22. If there's anything I can count on from SA, it's the urge to pick up new hobbies!

Try and get comfortable going faster as soon as possible, it sounds kind of silly, but the slower you go - the easier it is to fall.

donJonSwan posted:Grats on your first board dude, super loving cool. Thanks for the tip! I've definitely noticed how easy it is to ground the tail while doing stuff at low speed, so I'll find a bigger spot to practice asap. It took me three days but I finally started landing stationary ollies consistently. Not sure what I was doing before but it seems like it works best if my back foot is ON, but not hanging off the back of the tail. One question I have is regarding higher ollies: should I be doing the "jump" primarily with my front foot so that my back leg can kick down more quickly for extra pop? Its hard to analyze exactly what my feet are doing but the way I described kinda feels right.

It really just comes down to timing, and how high you can jump. Do calf raises, jump a lot, visualize sucking your knees into your chest immediately after you hear the crack of the board slapping the ground. Setting up obstacles is probably the easiest way to boost your height, just try and get over something small, then raise up a couple inches. Reverse limbo.

for me, in order to oillie higher i have to be going faster. At first I was compressing more before the ollie and trying to move my front foot closer to my back foot for a longer drag. That only caused me to be more off balance.

I'm also wondering if anybody has any tips for just riding around town on a board. On major streets I get a little nervous to be pushing around a little toothpick like I've got, and the way the sidewalks are designed, there's a lot of unevenness at every intersection - basically my board gets away from me a lot and I feel like a dork. Little help? Also yesterday I thought I'd go down a short (steep) hill leading into my apartment complex, thought it was a great idea as I was zipping down... until I started getting crazy speed wobble and flew off my board and into the asphalt. More scars for the blood god!

the more you do it, the more comfortable you get. I'm always amazed at how the pros can hit a stair set or a rail and then ride into grass or gravel, for a good distance when they land, before they jump off, if at all. I kind of look ahead at the pavement and bounce a bit with cracks in the sidewalk, loosen up and don't stand too stiff when going across uneven pavement. At some point though, larger wheels like a longboard will always be a better ride for just around town.

Bend your knees more, and loosen up. Get in the habit of kicking up the nose of your board over cracks. Eventually you'll learn to scan the horizon without thinking about it. It just takes hours, days and months on the board before you're comfortable. Then the second you're most comfortable you'll eat poo poo, I promise.

Does anybody have some advice about the order I shgould tackle different street tricks? I've heard shove-its are the easiest but beyond that I'm a bit stumped. I really like the look of the no comply though so I'm gonna try to learn fs and bs 180s with that so I'll have at least one impressive looking thing I can do for now.

Now that I've gone on a few multi-mile excursions on my board I feel a lot more comfortable just moving around in general. One thing I still need to work on is making quick turns at the bottom of a decline, which happens several times on my way to just about anywhere, it seems. Guess I'm still not comfortable enough to commit to those. I think that once I start learning how to push the board around while riding switch I'll be able to go just about anywhere in town without getting too tired, I'm definitely loving this skateboard.

You make me feel like a quitter, which I am anyways, but I've decided just to take my board with me to work and try my best to skate back home. That's gonna be my practice. I guess I'm just one for those kinda people who do better learning new things with people. Also walking home in Vans is killing me.

It's like drifting through turns, or just staying sideways to slow down. Learning how to coast/push switch isn't a bad idea either. The more familiar you feel on the board in any given position, the better.

And get over the nerves I feel as soon as I start going down a hill faster than I can kick on level ground haha.

I saw the Hosoi hammerhead at a local skate shop the other day and I want it bad. It's the perfect shape for bowl and vert riding, reminds of decks from the 80's and I'm glad companies are bringing them back. Also saw a retro Caballero deck that was the poo poo, this isn't good because I can't be spending money

Zizzyx posted:Boarding to and from work makes work slightly less of a chore lately since I have something fun to do before and something to look forward to after. It's pretty easy and intuitive! Just ever so slightly lift the weight on your front foot and use your back foot to maneuver the tail to one side in one smooth motion. Make sure the front foot follows with the board as it turns. The front wheels should only leave the ground a smidge, if at all. You need to lean your weight in the opposite direction of travel in order to balance it all out, or else the wheels will grip and you will fall forward. Too much weight distribution to the rear, and the board will just slide out from under you. The faster you're going, the easier it is to powerslide. Bombing hills still scares the poo poo out of me, but that's part of the fun. For some reason, falling at high speed isn't so bad. As long as you roll with it, you usually just end up with some annoying road rash for a week or two.
