I'm having a problem in Win 7 Pro x64 with my Logitech mouse forgetting all of it's custom settings coming out of sleep mode. I think the Logitech Setpoint software is running in 32bit. Any suggestions on correcting this?

I got a question, I'm planning on upgrading to Windows 7 soon, but I have two hard-drives on the computer that are nearly filled. Since it will be a clean install, the files will be moved to "OLD" folder. Does it move the files on the second hard-drive to that folder, or in general leaves them alone.

Mine will revert my middle mouse button to search instead of mouse3 click. So Firefox won't lose or open a new tab but click on the search area. I usually get tired of it and reboot. I will try new Setpoint drivers tonight.

I've had it fail on me once, was fixed by a reboot. Are you using UberOptions or anything weird?

I emailed Logitech support and their proposed solution was to RMA the mouse. The easiest thing to do if it happens is to kill SetPoint.exe from Task Manager and then re-launch it. Somebody on the Logitech board actually came up up with a Task that did this when the system woke up from sleep.

Ugh the sideways tearing is getting more annoying and now the color seems to cut between 32/16bit and like 256 or some poo poo. It goes away when I shut down sli. Are there known issues with regards to this? I haven't checked the new card I bought individually to see if I got a dud off of ebay, that's obviously the next step. Also, these are both gtx 260's, same chipset, etc, just that one is default clocked faster. Am I correct in thinking that it will just downclock to the lowest denominator and work without a hitch ideally?

The thing I love best about the new Start Menu is how it incorporates the recent file lists into the most used programs list. Is there any way to make that work with programs not specifically programmed for Vista/7?

So I was bothered by the limit of "balanced plan" and whatever power plan you were on before that showing up without at least 3 clicks.... and I found some good commands for you: powercfg /setactive scheme_max powercfg /setactive scheme_min powercfg /setactive scheme_balanced You can of course create shortcuts however you want, but I'm a fan of setting up .bat's that I can run immediately after hitting the windows key. poweercfg /? is hugely long, which lead me to finding powercfg -energy, which creates an html report of what your system thinks is taking up too much power Thought it might be of interest to some of you that want to squeeze the most out of some old portable hardware.

Similarly, jump lists are by default populated with that same list if it is available.

Is there anything like the XP Scanner and Camera Wizard in Vista or 7? I can't loving stand the fact that if you plug in a digital camera in Vista/7, it decides you need to import EVERY picture on the camera in one folder instead of being reasonable and letting you, you know, CHOOSE which pictures you'd like to download for a particular import. Edit: For now I'm browsing to the camera and copying them off manually. SpelledBackwards fucked around with this message at 08:26 on Nov 3, 2009 |

I have 5 hard drives in my computer, and it didn't touch any of the drives except for the one Windows was on. In fact, it doesn't touch files not related to Windows. If you have a C:\stuff\ folder, that will remain untouched on the drive after the clean install. Most of what goes to the windows.old folder is the Windows folder, Program Files, Documents and Settings, and a lot of the hidden stuff like %APPDATA%.

Trip Report: Windows 7 on a D830. It's been pretty good for the few days that I've used it, honestly. It's not as fast as I would have liked, but that's what you get on a 2GHz CPU, 4GB DDR2-667 @ CAS5, a 120GB 5400RPM drive, and using far more powerful rigs with it before. I'm really digging it though; things are pretty fast. The only issue I was having was that the laptop was overheating REALLY easily - I'm assuming the quadro card in here wasn't intended for constant use. Due to this, there was some thermal throttling, meaning that the CPU would scale back to 550-600 MHz sometimes. This is bad. I've used RMClock to force it to stay at full tilt, and the effects are to be seen. I don't really care. I back up my data bi-daily, and have a year and a half of warranty left.

My system doesn't overheat, and I've set the Windows 7 power mode settings set to high performance so my CPU doesn't throttle. With the SSD the system is a pretty much a speed demon.

You can get a pretty supped up Core 720QM 1.6GHz laptop such as the Dell Studio 17 for under a grand. Dual channel memory is plenty fast, what's your issue with it? Battery life goes to the shitter, but you get a significant perf boost. With Core i7's turbo mode when all fours aren't being utilized it runs 2 cores at 2.8 ghz. Remember this is different architecture than Core2duo, so a 2.8ghz i7 core is faster than a Core2duo 2.8ghz core. scarymonkey fucked around with this message at 10:52 on Nov 3, 2009 |
