I generally agree with you, but I wonder if your cast knuckles are made of the same poo poo that the H2's cast knuckles are composed of. Since H1's have a military pedegree, I'd imagine the materials would be held to higher standards. Cast steel and ductile cast iron(like what the H2 is made of) look similar, but the cast steel unit will be much more impact resistant than the iron piece. <edit> According to this SAE .pdf, the type of material used in the H2's lower arm was first used in the IRS of the Mustang Cobra in 1999, so I'm guessing the H1 uses cast steel. http://www.intermet.com/resource/images_resource/2000-01-1290.pdf JnnyThndrs fucked around with this message at 02:17 on Nov 21, 2009 |

The H3 with the adventure package [front and rear eaton lockers] I like though. Most of the dumb H2 poo poo online is due to operator error, not so much the truck. I sat in an H2 once at an auto show. It has the worst visibility of basically any vehicle I've ever been in, and I've sat in the cockpit of a space shuttle. I literally could not see anything less than two feet tall within maybe 5 feet of the car in any direction -- absolutely the best way to run over toddlers. I also believe it has less usable interior space than my 1997 Escort station wagon. It was just a thoroughly unpleasant experience.

Cast iron comes in many types, from the ancient sort of grey iron found in old coal-burning stoves(the poo poo you can break chunks off with a light tap from a claw hammer), to high-nodular iron that works pretty well in crankshafts, all the way to heat-treated tempered ductile iron, which is fairly strong. But yeah, none of is nearly as impact resistant as a good cast steel.

I was shocked how such a huge vehicle could be so cramped. I tried the h3 too. I say tried because just getting in i bashed my knee into the side of the dashboard. The MINI coopers? much roomier

There is a video of some mudding hole were a jeep got stuck and they called the site's tow truck to help pull it out. 90's era F150 tow truck ended up bending in half.

Or like when I had a trailer hitch put on my Geo Tracker and I pulled 54 of those landscaping blocks (the ones used to make walls where each level of the wall is reset back from the level below) home on one trip, and 40 40# bags of top soil home from Lowe's on another, on my 4x8 trailer, the one rated for I think 1000 or maybe less pounds? I think those blocks were 30ish pounds each. Oh here we go: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=12233-215-110601211&lpage=none different color but yeah 25 pounds each. Stopping was FUN! Luckily I only had to pull it 3 and a half miles. I probably wore at least a year maybe more, worth of clutch off because I had to slip it so hard to even take off at all. Rev to 3000 and slowly let the clutch out to get it to roll. Wish I had pictures, but it was 5 or 6 years ago.

What better way to find out your load limits than to just pile on poo poo until the rear tires rub on the wheelwells? This is the preferred loading method for all compact pickups. Bonus points if you can get the shackles to flip.

The rear axle is rated for 1750kg but the wheels were only 1.5 inches away from scrubbing on the wheel wells. Hummer H2's are TINY inside at least the one i sat in. Plastic interior, cheap seats and i had more space in my lovely mitsubishi magna.

A few years ago, a friend's father decided to show off his shiny F150 (this would be about a 2000 or 2001). He picked up the gravel to go under the rear deck. The second bucket-load into the bed didn't compress the springs at all, just the tires.

The would take maybe one pallet max of tiles to bottom out. it was a trip watching the truck slowly. bottom. out. then watch the sidewalls start to flatten. Just one load of tile would do it. my buddy's 2500 cummins wouldnt even touch the bumps. Proper truck that was. Gears
