In Canada you can import pretty much anything on wheels as long as it's more than 15 years old. That makes it exempt from the import rules. That being said, that's just to import it, not register it in your province (good luck with that).

I think it was in the late eighties that they stopped allowing personal import of cars. The only reason that car can drive on the streets is because Florida is so lax with regging and inspections.

IIRC, the clause is 15 years or older. Registration (if you're importing it yourself) is indeed a bitch.

I've actually seen this thing running around town. The 'plug' in the back of the cabin looks terrible, and the whole conversion kit looks like it was made out of cheap rear end fiberglass.

Only excuse I can think of is because you simply can't buy a HSV ute in the US, and this is pretty much as close as you can get to one - big GM V8? Check. IRS? Check.

But I do know a guy here in Vancouver that is selling chinese reproductions of 40's era Harleys. I think he gets around it by doing the final assembly here, and calling it a U-built. (Which means it gets a brand-new VIN.) He'd tried it before as a dealer, but they wanted him to send two models to be crash-tested before they'd even look at the rest of the paperwork.

Considering the only Subaru parts are the front end and airbag cover, I'm gonna say it's a crash repair. The worst part is that it was probably rebuilt like that on purpose by the owner. Maybe they bought it wrecked and decided to be different.

To be fair it is a pain in the rear end using a baby seat in a 2+2. My mom drove a Maverick 2 door when I was born and my dad drove a Nova coupe. They sold the Maverick a few months later and bought a four door Buick Wildcat.

Most coupes and 3 door hatches have small back seats, and it can get tiring to have your kid's knees poking into your back.
