Since we were talking about crimp connectors I thought I'd share this cool one. It's a connector for a 50k volt line for a power plant. It is of aluminum and the wires are aluminum except for 10 stainless steel wires in the center of the bundle. Click here for the full 1200x1600 image.

Sorry, I came off a bit defensive. I'm still an apprentice right now and I work for a dental supply company. We make a lot of teeth. Sounds real exciting I know but they actually have a pretty big range of different equipment, production processes and stuff so there's a lot of cool stuff to work on. The crimp connector was from one of the aforementioned machinist's friends that works for the power company. We actually have 5 separate machine shops: Our maintenance machine shop, a machine shop with 4 cnc mold making machines and related stuff, another one to repair the molds and make prototypes, and 2 more making small brass fittings and other parts. The cool thing is that in one of the machine shops, there are 10 Tornos screw machines from Switzerland built in the 1930s, cam-driven and cool to look at but a pain in the rear end to set-up, and some custom built machines to finish the parts. One floor up there are a couple CNCs and like 10 oldschool hardinge lathes fitted with cnc controls. It's a good mix of old and new. Our maintenance shop is responsible for keeping everything running, and also building new machines or making parts from our lovely engineers' drawings. I ramble. Does the aluminum jack accept the transmission adapter? Lugging the regular jack around is getting old and my back wants to replace it. I think the 2-1/4 ton rating is actually the weight.

I doubt that transmission dolly is going to work with the 1.5ton jack. That thing is a tiny little toy, compared to the 3 ton jacks. I finally opened the box on mine, and it is about 1/3 the size of my 3 ton (although it is easier to move around, obviously). It seems like a good portable jack, but I wouldn't want it as my only shop jack.

$150 visa gift cards, so any tools in that price range 60-tooth craftsman ratchet and Craftsman mechanics gloves (technically a graduation gift for getting my BS) and $70 cash (also grad gift), used to buy crimping pliers and 2 different sizes of needlenose, and something else yet to be decided. I'm thinking it's about time I bought some toolboxes for all this crap.

I picked up a 5 piece front end service kit from HF today and I saw this in the new ad, http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?itemnumber=97503&Submit=Go Would anyone recommend this as a starter welder? I have a few small holes in the floorboards of my Escort that will need fixing, would this handle that job?

Just wanted to let you motorcycle guys know that I saw a heavy duty chain breaker tool in the latest Harbor Freight ad. Had a coupon to get it for $10, normal price is $15. I'm gonna grab one so I have a separate tool for breaking and thus don't have to risk breaking a piece off of my $100 riveter/breaker combo.

I have a chinese TIG welder that other than the lcd no longer working functions correctly. Ive used it probably 30-40 times in three years. If I could go back I would've bought a used, less powerful, branded, MIG or TIG rather than my more powerful (200A AC/DC) Tig although welding aluminum has been very nice sometimes.

Their blue nitrile gloves are ultra cheap, but if you catch them on sale their still a good value. I haven't tried their other gloves.

Their little digital calipers for like $10 are actually pretty decent, also since it can change units instantly. I wouldn't do anything beyond a few hundredths with it, but they are plenty useful.

Only thing with the HF unit is that you have to take the battery out each time you use it, otherwise it'll drain it just sitting.

I've got the same brand (well, same company basically) as RealKyleH, but mine isn't as nice or as full featured as his. I've only used mine for arc welding, but I've been really happy with it. It's not great to learn with, but once I took a course and figured out what the gently caress I was supposed to do, it's pretty good. I'd rather have a better name brand welder too, but honestly, a plasma cutter, TIG, and arc machine all in one for 700 bucks is pretty loving enticing.
