I don't remember the context, but there was some interview or something years ago where he was talking and it was so unlike his usual "OOOOH YEAH DIG IT SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM" voice that it boggled my mind. I seem to recall that it was a lot deeper than I'd expected. If I manage to dig up some clips, I'll post 'em.

A touch late, but on the Steiner note...I found a pretty good shoot interview from some radio show with him talking about Ric Flair and HBK/HHH. He doesn't seem to care much for Flair, but does sound very logical and rational.

Ehh, I prefer crazy Scott Steiner interviews like one in WOW where he referred to Flair as a "fat old buttsucking bastard" and speculated that Hogan and Ronald McDonald were the same person due to the red & yellow colour scheme.

Let me tell you a dumb WCW story. This is a rumor I hope isn't true.

What's this? LIVIDLIQUID is telling a dumb WCW story?

Yes, sir.

In 1998 on the Nitro just after Fall Brawl when Raven's Flock broke up, Billy Kidman got the biggest push of his career. He won the cruiserweight title and continued said push. It lasted well over a year.

WCW hired Mikey Whipwreck from ECW in 1999. Why? Because he was talented? No. They hired him because he held a pinfall victory over Stone Cold Steve Austin.

WCW debuted Whipwreck after months of speculation in an unannounced PPV match against Billy Kidman with no hype whatsoever. Rumor has it Whipwreck made money in the six-figure range.

Why would they do this, you ask? Was the man talented? Sure. Was his contract the result of said talent?

No.

So why?

So they could say their Cruiserweight champion beat a man clean who had beaten the WWF's heavyweight champion. Did they ever bring it up on television?

No. WCW never even mentioned the victory over Stone Cold outside of postings on their website and broadcasts on WCW Live.

Go WCW.

Yep. Fan rolled into the ring, Curtis dropped right on top of him and put him in a guillotine choke. This is notable because Curtis was very, very small - Wikipedia lists him as 5'6", 145.

Whipwreck was hired by Eric Bischoff at the same time they hired the Sandman. The entire 'Hardcore Hak/James' run was stupidity of the worst degree, not helped by WCW hiring a porn star to be Hak's valet/Ravens sister and the entire Raven as Ferris Bueller angle.

Both Hak and Whipwreck ended up getting injured in the Junkyard battle royale at Bash at the Beach, which cost $100,000 to put on and was only advertised on the Thunder before hand. It should be noted few people picked up on Hak getting injured in the match because the crack camera crew managed to avoid showing him at all in the match. The only reason anyone knows he was in the drat thing is because he has a scar to show from the match.

Seriously for everything you can say about WCW in the Russo era, that which went just before it was just as bad if not worse in someways.

Curtis trained with Mick Foley in Denucci's wrestling school, and Mick put him over bigtime as a solid wrestler. He was just too small to be a wrestler in the 80s.

Stupid as it was, it did get Raven over and hiring a porn star was perfect for those two. Raven has said in shoot interviews that he was amazed at how well fans responded to those stupid vignettes that he thought would sink his career.

This is true. It also led into the Saturn, Raven and Kanyon freebird style tag team that was insanely hot for the short term. Considering the history the three had before that point the crowd loved the idea of those three being tag champs together.

Then being WCW they moved the angle onto the New Jersey Triad. That was a lot less successful as it was just three guys. Or to be fairer to the angle DDP and two guys.

I liked the Jersey Triad. I had friends who bitched they were trying to be Triple Threat. Even then I laughed at the idea of DDP "trying to be" Shane Douglas.

Raven and Saturn was an awesome tag team. That WCW Tag Team Tournament they did with Raven/Saturn, Malenko/Benoit and Hennig/Windham (Raven/Saturn were not in the tournament but feuded for the belts after, resulting in the phenomenal Malenko/Benoit vs. Raven/Saturn match). Except it had a retarded bracket.

Double elimination tournament. You had to lose two matches to be eliminated. In the final match on the PPV Hennig and Windum hadn't lost yet and Malenko and Benoit came in with one loss. In the first match Malenko pulled out the win. Straight away with no time out the second match started and Windum gave Malenko a belt shot for the win in under two minutes.

Aha, thank you much. I always hated that the matches mostly went way short; it seemed like it was killing off the title's importance.

A few highlights of that tournament:

Madusa's first match against Meng was a punishment for her refusal to wrestle in a dressing gown match the week before (itself a shot at the WWE for their use of tits and rear end). She was squashed in under a minute while Tony and Heenan alternate between using Owen voices at her being destroyed, and then finding it hillarious.

Madusa won her second match against Evan Karagias by rubbing her tits in his face in the corner and allowing him to grope her. When he was overcome by this she mounted him and gave him a big french kiss for the 3 count.

Sadly Madusa faced Benoit in the second round and got murdered. Well except she didn't. She went toe to toe with Benoit for a good portion of the match until he took control. Karagias then ran in to protest the man on woman violence to the referee. The referee then beat up Karagias for comming in the ring. While the ref was beating up the wrestler, Jeff Jarrett came in to the ring to attack Benoit for 'commiting violence against a woman like they do up north.' The ref turns round and sees that Benoit is down and DQ's Madusa. Madusa attacks Jarrett and clears him out of the ring, where he picks up the mic to tell her that 'he screwed her out of the WCW title.'
