Seriously though, every time I see anything about Ultra, I feel like crying. The lineup, it's just... every single DJ I love will be there. All of them. Although I imagine if I did go, it'd suck too, cuz I'd constantly have to choose between 3 or 4 of my absolute favorite DJs...

Check out Dusty Kid, Dubfire, Radio Slave, Gavin Herlihy, D. I need some insight from you house experts on a mystery I'm dealing with. I recently came across a track of what sounds like an earlier mix of Eric Prydz's "Call On Me" that's labeled as a white label version. The weird part is that it's credited to Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon (aka Together). At first I thought it was just a mistake but then I found a Youtube of the same track with the comments stating that Bangalter did originally conceive it. The story is that Bangalter couldn't release his version because Roule was unable to get the rights to the Steve Winwood sample but Ministry of Sound was able to do so and hence Eric Prydz's version was what got released. Wikipedia states that this rumor started because Bangalter & Falcon used the original mix in their sets and an advanced pressing incorrectly gave them credit. However, the citation for this points to Prydz's profile on thedjlist.com so I don't know how reliable that would be. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

Well this definitely isn't authoritative or anything but i have listened to a shitload of music by Thomas Bangalter / Falcon and all those guys, as well as most stuff by Eric Prydz, and 'Call on Me' sounds FAR more like a French scene track. Prydz never did anything (else) near that good in the sample heavy funky disco loop kind of style, pretty much everything he does is super melodic / proggy and synth heavy. I've never heard that rumor before but it makes perfect sense and wouldn't surprise me at all.

For those of you that like funky house or the french touch sound, check out Louis La Roche, one of my favorite artists at the moment. He's only about nineteen years old but he produces incredibly good house reminiscent of Daft Punk's fronchy style, despite being british. As for actual advice, when moving from flatter to rounder kicks, always kill your low-end on the track you're bringing in. You're never going to get a nice diffusion between them and they'll never phase the way you want them too. If you're rolling with mp3s and a midi controller just wait for a one bar kick-kill in the top track (you can see these incredibly easily in the waveform readout, with records you either have to really know your poo poo or be able to see smaller colour changes in the pitch black), roll the kick back to zero gain and bring in the new one at about 1.5 to 2.0+db Will sound like righteous thunder. Will get women to sleep with you.
