Doesn't that basically just make it a pair of inline 4s bolted back to back?

What is the reasoning behind that? How is it in any way better than a V8?

[e] that link seems to indicate that basically all the advantages are in manufacturing and use of the engine on multiple platforms, and it's worse in most other ways.

It's not so much an I8 as a 2x4, really.

Noticed the V8! V8! too. Pretty surprising for an "enthusiast" website. Very cool nevertheless.

We had an 85 Topaz in a 5sp. It was a complete turd and Mom got rid of it within a year. My boss's wife had a AWD tempo. The only thing I really remember about it in particular was that it ate rear u-joints all the time. At least once a year.

I'd imagine it reduces crankshaft whip, and it apparently allows you to package an eight-cylinder into a Tempo engine bay. I wonder how the packaging on a T-drive v12 would work....That would be two v6 engines seperated by the transmission in the middle.

I'd just like to hear one rev (under load of course for you :spergin: types). Half the fun of the different engines is how they sound when driven in anger. The only straight eights I've heard are usually in rather old luxury/touring cars, and they don't usually get the tits driven off them.

So did they make the crankshaft I8 cross plane or flat plane? Inquiring minds.

Are inlines ever a flat plane? They normally arent as mechanically running ignition events (dual distributors or like dual coil/2 part rotors and such) becomes quite tedious.

I remember he had a build page for it too. If I remember right he actually used it as his family van. There was a story of him taking it to a track and telling the officials he was running 12's in it. They were all obviously unimpressed and just told him when to stage. Well of course he busts out a 12 and a course official runs up afterwards to toss him a helmet.

What good is the auto start if the heat doesn't even work? Thats dumb dude it's worth about $1000 and you didn't even list how many miles it has on it, these had a 3.1 engine and those got to about 190,000 max before they crapped ou and that's if they were taken good care of,t so if it even near that it's not going to last very much longer.

You can pretty much have whatever you want as a company car, especially if it's your company. I see Escalade EXT "work trucks" all the time. poo poo, the owners of the shop I used to work for only have one personal car each. The shop owns about 10-15 classic a/o custom cars.
