4 episodes left of Lost S5. In the entire history of the show, has there ever been a good Kate episode? Because the latest one was pretty insufferable (in other words, business as usual).

The one where Kate and Juliet mudwrestled while handcuffed together was okay.

Yeah, Tabula Rasa and Left Behind are alright episodes. What Kate Does gets ragged and it probably is one of the weaker episodes of the current season but the whole thing just plays like a nonstop action piece anyway so the only problem is people raging because they have to wait a week.

That's it this thread is unreadable now since it turned into a Lost spoiler thread. Spare a little consideration for those of us that are waiting until it's finished before resuming watching please.

Anyway, up to the very last episode of Alias, going to start Oz next I think, for a change of tone. Alias rocked, but started to get a little samey and I'm glad it's ended when it has.

Just binged through the 9 episodes of Spartacus: Blood and Sand that have aired until now. The first episode is the worst thing I have ever watched all the way through. Two episodes later it turns into one of the best shows on TV currently. The turnaround is unbelievable.
Though a more fitting title would be Spartacus: Blood and Tits

I'm going through the whole run of The Rockford Files on hulu. Always loved it, wondered what kind of writing changes it went through as it developed past the first half season.

I love the Rockford File and have fond memories of watching reruns with my Dad. It's on of the weird things to go back and watch shows this old with a critical eye. With the exception of really popular shows that maybe had a big event or did something unusual (Dallas) or dramatic changes in tone (M*A*S*H) people really didn't talk about shows in terms of seasons or with an awareness of who the new "showrunner" was or how it's chances of being renewed because how it was performing in certain demographics. You just watched them each week, and the epsiode was either good or bad, and then you waited for the next one.

Maybe normal people (ie non-TV/IV posters) still watch TV like this.

Question - does anyone have any words of warning/approval for New Street Law? It just popped up as a Netflix recommendation with two seasons available for Instant Watch. Since Spartacus: Blood and Sand, my opinion of John Hannah has improved significantly.

Somebody from CC wasted $10 on a guy who does not give a shit what they think, so I'm re-purposing it because I'm too lazy to come up with another one.
Just finished the Shield(was rotating it with Alias and Deadwood) and I have to say I found Dutch and Claudette often more interesting that Vince and his crew. While Vic was the focus and could be interesting at points, I found it harder and harder to route for an egotistical jackass I oh so wanted him to blow his brains out at the very end where he was sitting in the federal building at his desk job with the lights off having his team either dead or in jail and his family in witness protection.

Dutch and Claudette, on the other hand, were two sympathetic characters(who I assume were written that way) that I could route for and found myself fast-forwarding through Vic's scenes of holding up yet another drug dealer to find out how they solve the case or break a suspect in interrogation. CCH Pounder should have least been nominated for best Lead/supporting actress in a Drama for Man Inside and her amazing showdown with Kleavon.

Does anyone think this about the show?

Just binged through all episode of Community and absolutely loved it, apart from a few characters. Chevvy Chase was awesome.
Started on Nip Tuck last week, initially I had no idea what it was going to be like from the titled I imagined it was just housewives getting tit jobs, which still sold me. Currently on the 3rd series but much prefered the 1st so far, but still a wicked series.

Vince?

Personally I thought that the struggle between falling for the more magnetic parts of his personality and realizing that he is a bad person was the most compelling aspect of the entire series. It was most assuredly intentional, after all, he did kill a cop in the very first episode. That's meant to colour your view of him in every episode from there out.

This show definitely got better after the first two episodes, but I'm still not convinced that you can call it 'good' by any semi-objective metric. Spartacus has a somewhat entertaining story now that the writing isn't hilariously bad, but even with the sheer number of rockin tits it's still gotta be one of the most unintentionally homoerotic programs in existence.

VVVV Jeez, get more defensive about your over-the-top, campy Rome knockoff.

Well there is eye candy for both sexes. I see no reason why that is a bad thing. If you're uncomfortable with men showing skin, than that's your problem.
Almost everyone in the Spartacus thread talks about how awesome the show is after every episode. I would say that's saying something.

Vic = short for Vincent, they even called him that at several points, but fixed anyway. But oddly I didn't know what actors were who until I actually looked them up last night. I thought CCH Pounder was a dude and Jay Karnes played Shane(I thought I read that somewhere) :downs:

Finished Life on Mars (The UK version) and have moved on to Ashes to Ashes. I thought Life on Mars had an unsatisfying series finale.

I like a lot of Ashes to Ashes' 80s cheese so far since I'm a sucker for 80s nostalgia, and the returning characters seem to have become much more tolerable this time around, but I'm not digging the main character and her clown and the storyline of possibly saving her parents just yet.

Life on Mars had an outstanding season 1 ending though, so hopefully this will too.

Is the American Life on Mars worth watching if I liked the British one?

The movies don't really fit in with the series, kind of an alternate series with the same characters. The exception to this is the original movie, which kind of sucks but is the lead in to Season 1.
The Christmas special is a prequel but I'd recommend watching that around season 3 to get the best value out of it, that's a great episode made even better if you've gotten to know the characters a bit.

Also I am jealous as gently caress that you get to see TPB for the first time.

Just finished up Rome which was absolutely stunning. I really hope HBO picks up the series again later after the movie. I also re-watched Stargate SG-1 and as much of Modern Marvels as I could find on Hulu.

I am going to start watching Samurai Jack , Burn Notice , and The Wire as they come in via netflix.

Edit: To be fair the intro song to Rescue Me had me watching episodes about as much as the show.

Rescue Me, I'm a few episodes into the 4th season, weird show, I find myself caring a little about the characters, but they really have grown on me very slowly, I admit I would never be watching the show, or ever even gotten past the first season, if it were not entirely for Dennis Leary who is a very funny man.

Spartacus is indeed superb, but I'd put off watching it for a few weeks if you haven't started already. There's only 3 episodes left until the end of the season so you might as well hold off and marathon the whole thing in one go. It's a "trashy/guilty pleasure" for about the first 3 episodes, but definitely by the end of episode 5 it becomes a full on fantastic, serious, serial drama. And it only get's better after that. It's a loving excellent show.

I also enjoyed True Blood and Big Love, both good very marathon-able shows.
