What Maninmadden said, + Ladytron, Moloko (+ Roisin Murphy's LPs), maybe Florence & the Machine.

I'd suggest checking out what bands they are touring with - these new metalcore bands tend to tour with other acts that sound insanely alike, so you're bound to find something you like.

Also, the Artery Foundation's roster is a good guideline: http://www.myspace.com/thearteryfoundation

Here are some specific recommendations: I See Stars, The Devil Wears Prada... well, I can name a couple of other bands, but they are crap IMO (Attack Attack! is the fuckin' worst). But yeah, check out these two bands and The Artery Foundation and you're bound to find something you dig.

I'm actual curious if there is other music like 'Cotton Eyed Joe' by Rednex. Really just a fusion of dance and country. 'Cotton Eyed Joe' isn't necessarily the greatest song in the world, but I feel as if this is an unexplored genre.

Does anyone have anything similar?

Just YouTube'd a few Prada songs and they sound a bit harder than AA/WCAR, but it's definitely the stuff I listen to. I'll check out those star guys, too.

Can anyone recommend music that fits with these two bands?

I really like this kind of music too. I reckon you should check out some late eighties/early nineties shoegaze like this:

Um, I came here looking for recommendations along the line of something like Black Tambourine. I've been meaning to look into that sort of late 80's early 90's noisy-pop with the driving bass, basically what Pixies epitomized. I'm going to get some J&MC soon but what else is required for this genre/era?

Looking for some good old southern rock.
Got my bases covered in:

Skynyrd
Steve Miller
Souther Culture on the Skids
The Outlaws

as I have huge collections/greatest hits of theirs. I never really listened to them much, but recently I've gotten really into these bands, and I would love to get some more.

Song's similar to what I'd like to hear:
38 Special-Hold on Loosely
The Outlaws-Green Grass and High Tides
Molly Hatchet-Flirtin with Disaster
Lynyrd Skynyrd-Simple Man
Steve Miller Band-Take the Money and Run
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition-Just Dropped In

I know I should look into Marshall Tucker, Allman Brothers, and a couple other bands, but I don't really know where to START.

Thanks!

An obvious one is Kim Deal's band, The Breeders. "Last Splash" is a great album and worthy of Pixies.

Violent Femmes tend to be rather bass-driven, although they play a lot of acoustic.

In the year 3000..

I've asked this before and got no response, but I will try again. Does anyone know of anything similar to System of A Down? The similar artists on last.fm aren't at all similar besides they were popular in the same era. Serj Tankian's solo stuff is also good, but again the last.fm recommendations are just more SOAD side projects or crap that isn't similar at all. I've also listened to Serart and enjoyed it quite a bit.

The political lyrics aren't really what I'm looking for, it's mostly the wide range of vocal styles and frantic start stop nature of the songs. After thinking about why I like System and Serj I think of the same reasons I like Mr. Bungle and Mike Patton. If that helps at all.

Passion Pit were already recommended, but I'll also throw out The New Pornographers (the definition of power-pop and nonsense lyrics), Ladyhawke, and Sloan. You might also want to check out the recent Yeah Yeah Yeah's album if you haven't already, which is way more poppy and synth-based then their previous stuff. Alright, my tastes in music have just tremendously shifted and I have no idea why. I have trouble describing music, but...

Stuff I'm looking for:
Violin/cello in rock or metal is one of my favorite things in the world right now. Tantric uses them okay in Down and Out, Cursive's cellist does a fairly good job at providing backing from what I've heard, and Murder By Death (which is one of my favorite bands despite being depressing) uses it as well as I've heard anyone do it. The Beatles used what I'm looking for in Eleanor Rigby, although I like it being paired with guitar.

Music for relaxation would also be good right now, since I'm working on driving in a stressful situation. I actually have very little relaxing music at the moment, pretty much limited to Dredg and Murder By Death, since up until now I didn't enjoy much without a lot of energy. Bob Seger's Turn the Page is a pretty good example of something I'm looking for here.
