My experience: I've had two 6 month web development co-ops and a 3.5 month summer internship doing HTML/CSS/Javascript/PHP, in three different industries. I've done Java and Scheme in classes and have used Ruby, Python, and Processing for a few assignments as well. My dual major with math means I didn't take the class you learn C and assembly in but in the summer I'm taking a mobile development class, which will be using Objective C. Not helpful for CS jobs really, but I'm a lab proctor and I volunteer at the SPCA. What I'm looking for:: Some sort of programming job for my third co-op. It'd be nice to do iphone/android development since I've been trying it out lately and it's fun, but it's not absolutely necessary Where I live:: Boston, MA Where I'm looking:: Boston, MA area When I can start:: full time July 2010, but I'll have Fridays off in May and June Requirements:: I'd like to be paid Also, this would be for 6 months- I go back to classes in January but I could probably work part time then. Can be reached via: this thread, PM, AIM, lsiegert@ccs.neu.edu

To answer the people who are emailing me: Yes, the positions on the previous page are still open. Competition is very tough for the Pittsburgh and Washington D.C. offices; if you're looking at those locations let me know if you would consider New York.

Any chance at maybe a return email if it doesn't look like a match outright? I was looking at Santa Monica. I have an offer for a crappy position coming up next week but I'd love to put it off for an interview at Google.

As a note to people (in particular Acethomas): Having been through the Google hiring process once before myself, it is not fast. At all. The last time I went through it, it took 3+ months including 3 separate phone interviews and an in person. If you have a job offer for somewhere else, even if you don't want to work there, take the job. You'll go broke going through the process if you don't and you can always quit your lovely job later. I could be totally wrong about the process and it could've changed since then but everything I've heard and seen says that's not the case.

A goon emailed me and began by saying "I heard the Google hiring process takes a year, so..." -- it doesn't take a year. It does sometimes take 2-3 months, and almost always at least a few weeks. It's not one of those things where you walk in, get asked a few questions by the boss, and he/she says "I like the cut of your jib, here's our servers, start fixing them."

Also, if you got an e-mail from a recruiter and haven't heard back in awhile, it's good to follow up. I sent in my transcripts and never got a response, but I e-mailed the recruiter and she responded saying she thought she had already e-mailed me. I wasn't applicable to the IT Manager position (not recently graduated) so my resume was forwarded to the Corporate Operations department.

This position is not advertised anywhere else yet Who we are: A mobile entertainment company (as in mobile phones), also provide B2B SMS based services. We have an established presence in many countries. Where we are: Australia, Sydney, Bondi Junction Job title: Linux Sysadmin What we want: We need someone who has experience setting up and maintaining high performance, high availability systems. Experience with clusters is a plus. Extremely knowledgeable administering and fine tuning the following software: Apache, MySQL (and possibly Lighttp, squid), server monitoring software (we're using Nagios). Being able to write shell scripts is pretty important too. Bonus: Subversion, LDAP (not actually using), file servers and similar things to improve or office/development environment. You would be responsible for ensuring our servers can handle whatever is being thrown at them, and coming up with solutions to handle the growth. Why you'd want to work here: The work will be challenging. Our current infrastructure is far from ideal so you will have the chance to make your mark. The company aims to be a technology leader, not a follower and our work attitude reflects this. We have a pool table and an arcade cabinet in the office and they do get used. Most of us are pretty sociable and often organise after work activities (movies, drinking, poker night, whatever). Why you wouldn't want to work here: The pressure will be on from day one. A lot of people don't make it past probation because they come in expecting an easy job even though they are told it won't be easy. However it is the right place for those willing to push themselves and grow. Salary: Negotiable based on experience, I can't be more specific than that. PM me with any questions or expression of interest.

Cross Posting this from SA-mart 4-5 figure budget http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3298042 So I am in the process of launching a web based business and we are prepared to take the next step and get some working shell of a website for our launch. I myself am not too technically versed, but we do have a pretty veteran developer somewhat mentoring us on this project. You will likely be able to speak with him about the specifics and what not, but this is something we'd like to be able to do on our own. We're looking for both a graphic designer for the website, as well as a PHP/Jquery/MSQL guy to mash it all together on the back end. For the graphic designer, we are essentially looking for the website's feel and navigation to be layed out in .psd format. We are wanting multiple .psds (Landing page, inside pages etc) that we can in turn hand to our backend team and have them chop it up. We have some very basic wire frames and ideas that we would like to expand on, but definitely feel that a professional would have a much better take on this. We are mostly concerned with design, feel, graphical schemes, and navigation schemes. On the back end of things, we are seeking someone to take those .PSDs and translate them into the actual website. Again, mainly listing off what I was told to look for, some strong points are - PHP/MYSQL knowledge - Jquery knowledge (apparently this is awesome?) - CSS knowledge - Simplicity. We won't have the budget for a full time web guy, so we would need to be able to upload content, make blog post and what not without having to log into 6 unix shells and sacrifice a goat We have done the groundwork, have some other sites that are already live to give you an idea. We have some ghetto wireframes as well with product requirements as well. Feel free to leave a method of contact, or PM me

If an opening is no longer available, please let me know (either in thread, with PM, whatever) so that I can remove it from the OP. Who we are: Freeverse INC, now a part of ngmoco:) What we do: We make iPhone games. Looking For: A Database & Engineer Rockstar We're looking for a certain type of engineer. One that knows SQL extremely well, knows how to write front-ends in PHP and/or Ruby to allow an application to interact with said SQL database, get Apache running and performing admirably, and ideally, this engineer has some C/C++/Obj-C chops to help out with said applications. Basically, a database rockstar with some coder thrown in the mix. One thing that is important, we really need someone who meets our exact criteria. So if you are good at C#, .NET and Java, but have none of the other skills, sorry. This is a very vital job we are looking to fill. So! You, the rockstar in question, should be able to: - Setup MySQL servers, located onsite, offsite, wherever. - Optimize queries for maximum efficiency and speed. - Create frontend bits via PHP and/or Rails to allow an application to communicate with the database. - Understand SQL load banacing, mirroring, and know how to scale a database when needed. - Setup Apache and get it running at optimum efficiency. - Have a bit of C/C++/Objective-C experience, and the drive to learn more. - Take ownership of these databases and related duties, and ensure they're working as well as possible. Ideally, your background includes experience with: - Doing all of the above professionally. - Asynchronous database transactions of course, and some real-time database transactions as well. - Real-time network coding (C/C++/Obj-C). - Working with a team. - Working under pressure. Benefits: • It's a game company. So no shoes or pants required. No horrible IT policies. • 401K • Health & Dental (We just changed over, not sure about Optical) • Commuter Stuff (Comes out before taxes, but you pay for your metro card) • Flexible work environment. What this means is, as your boss, I can approve vacation time/whatever as you need it. Technically on paper we have an allotment of days, but the real mantra is "get your poo poo done, and you can take the time you need" • Office Pinball, Videogames & cat and dog. • Unhealthy and Healthy drink and snack options stocked every week. • Some other stuff about purchasing company hardware and what not. So we really need to fill this job asap. We have this posting out in a few places. I don't think we have any relocation funds available. We are trying to hire in the NYC/New Jersey area. Most of the work will take place on Servers located somewhere out in the cloud (ngmoco HQ). But we need this person in the office, sorry. You don't have to actually have any game experience, but it's a major plus. Nor do you need any actual iPhone experience, but the more familiar you are with the device, even from a personal level the better. If you are interested, send me a resume, bruce@freeverse.com (my name is Bruce Morrison so you don't have to address stuff to "Mr. Hippieman"). I'll try to forward any resumes that meet the criteria to the top of the stack. No promises. Also, what's the pay? I actually don't know. But it will be competitive for both the industry and living and working in NYC (which can be a bitch). Our address for those wanting to google map the area: 45 Main Street STE 506 Brooklyn, NY 11201 We are very close to the F, A/C and 2/3 trains. For what it's worth, I live in Jersey City and it takes me maybe 20 mins to get to work. Lastly, can someone nuke my old entry on the front page in place of this one? We filled the position. hippieman fucked around with this message at 17:58 on Jun 22, 2010 |

I was a tech support volunteer in college from 2000-2004, I worked at the college help desk from 2001-2004, and I've been in escalating roles since 2004. Activesync-based mobile devices, printers and hardware, etc. What I'm looking for: A job where I can start the transition from full-time desktop support to full-time Windows sysadmin work. I'm mostly interested in messaging support. Even if it's just desktop support with a lot of server maintenance included, that's fine too. Where I live: New Brunswick/Edison, NJ and moving back to northern NJ. Where I'm looking: The Edison, NJ area but primarily Manhattan. I am not averse to the NYC commute.
