In that case, if you ever want to sell it, DON'T say, "it needs this but I have the parts and it's really easy," just do it and say, "my car is mint."

It's like the kid with the 350Z I posted. If the engine swap is a couple hundred bucks, do it already.

No kidding... if really is that cheap and easy surely the seller can spare an afternoon or two and increase the value of the car he's trying to sell :v:

I don't know about that. I would tend to think that these people know that it will be more expensive and harder to fix than they pretend. Some people make a living borderline-scamming others like that.

I'm not going to deny that one bit, especially on craigslist. However, there are 'oh god what is this metal thing making angry noise where my vroom used to be?' people out there, too.

Exactly. Whenever I'm planning on buying a car, if the owner admits it has problems, I figure out what I think it's going to cost, double that, and subtract it from their asking price and offer that.

If they say, "this is wrong, but it's an easy fix," I take them at their word with what's wrong, but go over the rest of the car with a fine-toothed comb, then figure out what I think it'll cost to fix and add a 0 on the end of the number and knock THAT off their asking price.

I don't trust those people.

Sometimes people just want to dump their problems, and set the asking price accordingly.

my car needs wheels, tires, headlights, pads, and a front clip. The synchros and shocks are also going. I don't want to dump 1300 or so into it now and more later just to get it sellable. I'll just sell it as a beater that runs just fine, if that's all you need.

That said, I understand your mistrust.

Yeah, I've sold cars with issues that I could fix relatively easily just on a basis of "I'm sick of it and want it gone, and I've rationalised the hit I'll take on price".

If thats a real Odyssey in decent shape its actually worth several grand with the body work. If you bought that and fixed it up you could do some work on it and easily resell it for way more than 300. They're also RARE AS ALL loving HELL and you'll never find one for that price again that isn't totally thrashed.

My dad had a Pilot and an Odyssey back in the day, both made by Honda, both totally awesome dune buggy/quad hybrids that kicked all kinds of rear end and there will probably be nothing made like them again. They kick the poo poo out of any kind of quad fun wise.

Honestly if someone doesn't buy that I might have to talk to my dad about getting it shipped to BC, he said its one of the few things he regrets selling. The Pilot is the cooler of the two by far though. Too bad they brought the names back as a terrible SUV and Minivan.

Man, I didn't know that was actually valuable. Are there are a lot of reproductions? I don't know much about ATVs, so I'd need more information in order to determine the breed standard of this one.
