So I'm starting to build up my collection (since my dance/house/dubstep/drumnbass collection is pretty minimalist) in order to start doing some mixing. What are some essentials I should check out? Obviously I've got artists like Daft Punk, Justice, Pendulum, Chase and Status, Subfocus, and Deadmau5, but I'm sure there are other albums that are pretty much essentials?

If you're just starting out, I would do some heavy listening on beatport. Just browse through and find some tracks you like, then check out other releases from the same label or the same artist. Also, grab up some mixes from your favorite artists. Speaking from a dnb background, the Pendulum Essential Mix still holds a lot of weight.

Please, the world doesn't need just another beatport top 10 chart dj. Please learn some of the music history to understand where the music you're listening to today is coming from. Motown, funk, early disco,... then chicago house, early detroit techno. If you're into dnb: rave, jungle, Uk bass, dub... Anyway, I don't want to sound arrogant by posting this. But by starting in the early days and working your way to the present you'll find a lot of tracks that others don't, and you'll also start liking stuff that you would never have liked before. And you'll probably lose interest in 80% of the stuff you're currently playing. Again, I don't want to sound like a dick, really trying to help.
