Wow thanks. I had no clue such a thread existed. Also, I am off to see Pretty Lights, RJD2, and Chiddybang (meh) tomorrow night and I am pumped. Terminal 5 gets some really good shows in NYC.

i've missed two opportunities to see pretty lights live and both times my friends who went said i was probably better off. which is weird cause i love pretty lights and can't see how he'd put on a boring live show unless he only played his down-tempo stuff (Which, judging from videos i've seen of him play live, he doesn't).

RJD2 is great live...if he sticks to a DJ set. if not...hoo boy, get ready for a painful hour.

Also would getting my friends old MPC be a good way to start making electronic music? Or where does one suggest I start?
An MPC's not a great idea if you wanna make like straight up electronic dance music, you'll just be making life really hard and limited paradigm for yourself. There's a reason it's primarily used for hip hop tracks. A computer program like Live or FL will be way more intuitive and offer a lot more opportunity.

^^^ my rule of thumb for MSTRKRFT shows is to get as hosed up as JFK, because he loving butchers effects/transitions when he's tanked. you might want to save your money if there's anybody better coming in the next month

Yeah I was so there. It was pretty much what they said they were going to do (more like belvedere, less like hustler) and I was dancing all night.

Sucks only one dude was there, though.

I loved loved search even though the sound was all hosed up

e: I can hear the hook from cruel intention all day, every day.

yes love search was great! i'm glad i caught their set.

as far as the whole DJ sets vs live sets argument goes...different kind of night/vibes/performance. they each have their own sets of pros and cons. chances are whoever it is has been DJing as long as (if not longer than) they've been doing live shows so it'll be a good time either way (unless, like manoli said, it's a ladytron DJ set, which i've had a dozen people tell me is the worst thing they've ever heard. i've also been told that hot chip DJ sets are mediocre, though take that with a grain of salt)

regarding simian's live set. i've been to 3, and they've been getting worse and worse. i also don't think that light setup is too much to write home about. the DJ set was a refreshing change of pace

Pretty lights was great, but there were tons of bros at the concert for chiddy abng and they ruined RJD2. I had never seen a fight at an electronic concert until some shithead laxbro started 3 fights tonight.

Digitalism played the new soulmax remix and it really really sounds well on a big system :)
Boys Noize was awesome as usual.
And Guetta .. meh .. gently caress it... plays one song after another, not mixed any different and is boring as hell. also played that swedish house mafia track all out

RJD2 was a brofest when i saw him too and yeah, come to think of it the only time i've ever seen multiple fights break out at an electronic show. some guido dude almost kicked my rear end for "blocking his shorty girl" (who was probably half my height and easily could have just moved to the side or something).

Awesome EP all around. I have to say though, I love buying from TTL than beatport as they always have a sharper selection that isn't obscured by labels who buy their way onto beatport.
