I don't suppose anyone knows where I can get a hold of a BBC documentary by the na,e of Carehouse? I've googled the poo poo out of it and I've found nothing. Anyone have a link or it? It's about this carehouse in which people with mental disabilities are interviewed about their lives- it's really quite interesting, but I haven't been able to find a link for it in a while. Help, please?

Cut from imdb, because I'm lazy: This Danish piece of non-fiction depicts six months at the Armadillo base in the Helmand province. We see the young men in various moods, a handful of them expected, others not. They entertain themselves and each other, they get bored, they express a desire to help in the war... and reveal their excitement at the idea of combat. Dark humor and porn are used to deal with what they go through. This is funny at times, but it also hits you quite hard. It is a commentary on, among other things, the human psyche. The choice of form could not be more perfect; this is immensely objective, and the facts speak for themselves. No one is painted as a monster. It would appear that, when someone expressed their emotions and it was captured, it was put in the film. The editing is spot-on. This has an always well-composed, effective and fitting score. Definitely a can't-miss movie.

I watched Dear Zachary because of this thread. I couldn't stop thinking about it for awhile. I don't know when the last time was that a movie affected me that much. Another good one is Night and Fog ("Nuit et Brouillard"). It's a very grim documentary about life inside the concentration camps during the holocaust. It includes photographs, news reels, and video footage. Obviously, it's very upsetting stuff to watch, but I think it's one of those films that everyone needs to see at some point. It's available on Google Video, and it's only a little over 30 minutes long. I saw it a couple years ago, and parts of it still give me chills to think about.

Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer. This is a documentary on Aileen Wuornos, the first female serial killed. It is similar to the Iceman Tapes, but based mostly around her final appeal; it basically chronicles the life of this woman, who grew up being raped and abused, and all the circumstances that lead up to her execution. She had many reasons for appeal including incompetent attorneys, police corruption, and the fact the woman in absolutely loving bonkers. This woman is just sick though, she shows absolutely no remorse for any of her crimes and sends chills up your spine. It’s a hard one to watch, Aileen screaming at the camera threatening to kill her lawyers for delaying her execution, Aileen’s mother saying she will sleep better after she is dead, and her final interview the night before her execution which is just her insane ranting. I love the One Percent documentary. It's courageous Jamie Johnson is pressuring the subject of having money even though it's a sensitive issue around the wealthy. Sometimes it's like he just barely has enough spine to point a camera in people's faces. He has the ability to ask the questions though, and the connects to talk to the right people, but drat it's too bad money won't give you balls.

Yeah, the One Percent doc was pretty interesting. It was more proof that Warren Buffett is a giant tool and people who idolize him are sad. Really the only negative is Jamie Johnson's narration. Maybe for his next film he can liberate some of his family's wealth and hire some voice actor to do it or get a voice coach or something.

"Born Rich" was pretty good but every single one of those kids irked me because each of their narratives boiled down to "[boilerplate monologue about how unrewarding and isolating their money is] BUT having whatever you want is really cool and I feel bad for the normies." I saw a glint of hope in Luke but then the ending was a total downer.

I'm in the middle of watching Audience of One and I already feel like I need to share it. It's follows this Pentacostal preacher who saw his first movie, The Lion King, when he was 40-years-old, and became convinced that God wants him to start a film production company that's going to topple Hollywood. His first movie is called GRAVITY: The Story of Joseph, and it's going to be "a mix between Star Wars and the Ten Commandments". He's got hugely lofty ideas for the film, and after some strange German investors give him $600,000, he and his small crew go to Italy to attempt to shoot the entire film in about 5 days. It's really hilarious in a Jesus Camp/Hell House sort of way, but as the film progresses, the preacher/director's manic obsession with the film gets creepier and creepier. It's streaming on Netflix, and it's also available on Youtube. Audience of One
