Old EP, but I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread. Surkin - Silver Island EP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_X8uCGe-ow&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwwMpbeci8I&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwJgalWcd9E&feature=related Personally Fan Out and Easy Action are my favorite. Kinda funky new-80's sound. Reminds me of Brian Eno and John Kale for some reason..

So much talking about hipsters and other random poo poo, not enough music. Just Tell me When (Vox Mix) - Manmade Science feat. Halder Laegreid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3t74vmUcHU Song I got from hypem a while back, noticed it wasn't on youtube. I think the best way to describe it is smooth house jazz? I think I'm going to be dragged to the A-trak show in SF with a couple of friends (never heard any of the artists and I'm not the biggest hip hop fan), but I've heard good things about this venue so I hope it ends up fun.

Hammsturabi posted:So you use Autofilter a lot too eh? I use filters on pretty much everything. Autofilter came into the mix when I was planning my live set - I wanted to keep everything Ableton-only as far as plugins go to save on CPU, so I kind of made everything work. Then when I started producing in Ableton, I knew the plugs so well that I just continued using it. Plus, autofilter does what I had to do by hand 6 years ago automatically. Its pretty awesome in that respect.

I could tell it was autofilter because you used that tempo-synced sawtooth LFO which I discovered too and which I think is just the coolest sounding thing ever. If I ever did a live set, it would just consist of me turning that on and off and changing the speed for an hour. I even named my contribution to "Short Music for People with ADD" after it: http://s95406449.onlinehome.us/music/Autofilter_the_World.mp3

Some kid I go to College with has apparently managed to somehow secure Benny Benassi, Steve Aoki, and MSTRKRFT to DJ an event in March. I don't understand how, but I'm not going to ask questions. I don't get how he plans on doing this (and I wish his taste in DJs didn't suck) but hopefully this pans out and I get free admission to a (hopefully) good electronic event.

incoherent posted:Oh my how could one man bring together such an eclectic mix of producers and Steve aoki, for one night? Shut up dude no one cares, this whole thread has been devoted to proving how many times we've been out to see shows anyway to like disprove the goon stereotype, and no one really cares what your particular opinions on producers are anyway because you have literally nothing interesting to contribute to the conversation right now. This also applies to so many people: no one cares if all you're gonna do is come in here and act hard because you saw deadmau5 at a "rave" or like you have a black friend or something Anyways, to contribute, which will probably discredit my above post because it will make me look insincere, this track would really blow it up if it had a good edit (check 2:50): http://hypem.com/#/track/1169601/GRUM+-+Can+t+Shake+This+Feeling+Aston+Shuffle+Remix+

Seems like most DJs/artists whatever around here use Ableton. I've used both it and Reason and can't really commit to either. Ableton is king for samples and sequencing, but Reason seems better for constructing the base sounds. I know Reason's instruments can be chained into Ableton and have done so, but you lose out on being able to sequence all the dials and subtracks and so on, and it's a pain to deal with the two program setup. edit: Probably should have posted in the musician lounge... I never post around these parts. Edelweiss fucked around with this message at 07:14 on Aug 8, 2010 |

I have an Axiom and it's buttons and sliders can be used to gently caress around with all the synth stuff from Reason, even when it's rewired through Ableton. And even without it, it's really not THAT much of a hassle..
