Le Castlevania is ok. He's playing some weird festival in Chapel Hill next month and some of my friends up here are playing too. I really like his remix of Rave is King by Fukkk Off even though it doesn't even begin to hold a candle to the original mix.

E: Also on the subject of Fukkk Off, he has a mix previewing a remix album he's putting out that's loving sick. I know Zombie Nation is on there, I forget who else is up. It's worth listening to in any case

Shop around for doctors! Always fucking shop for doctors. Doctors are stupid assholes. And they get by because people are cowed by their mystical bullshit quality of being able to maintain a 3.0 GPA at some Guatemalan medical college for 3 semesters. Find one that makes sense.

Anybody here big fans of Hybrid? They got me into all of the genres that accompany electronica and everything talked about here, all after hearing them in the PS2 racing game Kinetica back in 2001. They've also scored several films, such as Man on Fire.

I particularly love:

Theme from Wide Angle

Sinequanon

Disappear Here

Break My Soul

On the more downtempo side of electronica/trip-hop, I heartily recommend Etro Anime:

Danger

Another Life
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Hybrid, but they will always have a place in my heart because like you, the Wide Angle album was just about my first exposure to electronic music ever when I was a freshman in high school (1999 baby!) and pretty much got me started on all things electronic.

Old Town Road to EGOT

The first I heard of Hybrid was like two years ago. I was listening to di.fm one night (a trance station, I think), and "Just For Today" came on. I thought it was the most epic electronic song I'd ever heard, and I was instantly hooked.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWgQ9PNeDG4

There's also "Dogstar" with vocals by Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction, which is another one of my favorites of theirs. It's pretty haunting and great to drive to at night or in the rain, just like "Just For Today".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO0dmMfIcJY

Obviously I Choose Noise is my favorite Hybrid album.

Same here, pretty much. I got the usual basic "epic trance" crap, including the default Oakenfold CD's that everyone got recommended back then to get into the music. Didn't do crap for me, until I got BT - Movement In Still Life, and more importantly, Wider Angle.

Although I don't like more recent BT stuff, Hybrid is still my favorite. I probably have the biggest collection of unreleased Hybrid and BT stuff still :smug:

What program do you guys use for making mixtapes / remixes? Freeware is preferable, but I'm open to dropping some cash on a decent program.

FruityLoops is the cheapest beatmaking software that's worth a drat.

Making mixes is a different beast, though. Traktor and Ableton are the only two I think are worth considering. Neither are cheap. Definitely play around with the demos a BUNCH before dropping cash. Especially if you're new to music, you're not gonna know which program best suits you for MONTHS.

I mean Virtual DJ, especially for someone just starting out could be pretty effective. I dunno how expensive it is though...
