There are probably downloadable modules for Neverwinter Nights or NWN2 that do just that. Actually, if you're so inclined you can make them yourself in the editor. There might also be similar games I don't know about, but that's a good starting point.

Thanks, I'm giving it a try later today. I was kinda hoping for one that could be played on a single console or other be playable by a group of people in the same room, though. Anyone?

I don't believe either NWN has a hot-seat mode, but you can play across a LAN. You've got two options with the NWN series, you can go with Persistent Worlds (large modules in which you have - usually - many different things to do with regards to dungeon crawling and exploring, much like a MMO only you're in charge) or you can get individual modules which are more one-off adventures which you can play then export your characters at the end and use them in another module.

After you finished one module you'd just pick another that covers a new level range which fits your existing characters and keep going. You can even keep your old exports so you might have a copy of the same character at level 5, 10, 15, etc... and use those older copies for lower level modules.

I love Armored Core games because of all the fancy poo poo you can do to customize your giant robot, it has a great control scheme and it's very fun.

Are there any other games like it? (Don't say Chromehounds.)

The Mechwarrior series are good, but much slower and more technical than AC.

GTA: Chinatown Wars on DS has a pretty substantial drug running sub-game. I don't think you're ever involved in making them, but the economics of buying and reselling are fairly robust and it's kind of addictive (heh). Not sure if it's something you'd want to play the game exclusively for, though.

If you don't mind 1) a sugary anime coating 2) Dreamcast era graphics 3) it being a Free-to-play PvP game, Cosmic Break is going back into beta test this month. It's a very different game but it scratches the same mech-customization itch for me. Plenty of available parts with significant effects on how your mech handles.

On Gamecube/PS2/XBox there's Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, which I've heard is pretty good.

If you've got a DS, be sure to get Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals when it comes out this fall. It's a remake of Lufia 2 as an action-RPG, and as the original game was filled with puzzles, I can't imagine the remake not ending up like Zelda.

Try Escape Velocity: Nova. It's a 2d game where you pilot a spaceship around a huge, persistent galaxy, trading to earn money, doing quests, exploring, fighting, and looting your way to a huge battleship with carriers as escorts. There's also Transcendence, which is similar but free and randomly generated. (I enjoyed the combat more in EV:Nova though. It seemed like there was more variety.) And there's the free version of Star Control 2, as well.

It's pretty much like a single player version of EVE. Completely open ended sandbox game set in space. Sounds right up your alley. There's even a huge thread about it right here on SA!

I'm looking for a game on 360 (preferably Live Arcade or downloadable from the main interface) that I can play with one to two friends, one local and one online.

The only games i've been able to do that with so far are Halo 3 and the 2 Left4Dead Games. I was hoping Borderlands and similar games had this capacity, but no luck.

I've been playing some Castlevania: Harmony of Despair with my buddy online, but still no local gameplay there. Any suggestions?

Similar to X3, but more arcade-like controls is Freelancer. There's a main plot to follow, or you can just go off and explore the system, doing trading runs between nations to earn money and exploring the hidden and criminal systems.

King of dragon pass is a fantasy village/tribe building game where gameplay consists basically of you making choices for your tribe. If you have archives, you should look up the excellent LP of this game.

I'm looking for a good RPG on DS. I'm not in the mood for a SRPG or something really grindy like Etrian Odyssey. I'd like a game world that is genuinely fun to explore and, if at all possible, a plot that isn't completely terrible. I've already played or at least know of everything Square Enix.

I'd like a scary game to play. Not a game with scary parts (like Thief 3 - Shalebridge Cradle), but an actual game that has some chills to it. My friends and I have a tradition of getting together every couple of weeks and playing some creepy games that we would never play on our own. We've gone through Fatal Frame and Silent Hill (the first of each series), and while we would like to go through the rest eventually (once I find a copy of SH2), I'm wondering if there are any games like these that would be good. Note that games like Resident Evil are a little too corny and actiony, likewise Dead Space. I know there's Siren, too. Anything else?

There was a mod to Quake III I believe that made the whole game look as though it was a sketch-pad drawing, which is unfortunately all thats coming to mind right now. I'm sure there are plenty of "art" mods that will do what you're looking for, although I can't even begin to vouch for quality.

They must have guessed, once or twice - guessed and refused to believe - that everything, always, collectively, had been moving toward that purified shape latent in the sky, that shape of no surprise, no second chance, no return.
The other Hitman games are good in their own right but each entry was exponentially better than the last, so you might be a little spoiled by Blood Money.

Alpha Protocol is an RPG that lets you specialise in what you're looking for in the same vein as Deus Ex, although I'm not sure if I can safely recommend it due to how polarising it is.

You should check out the Thief games, if you haven't already, since the games revolve around being a sneaky guy who doesn't kill anyone. In fact, at the higher difficulty levels, you automatically fail at a mission if you kill anyone. Unfortunately, the third one is the easiest to find, and also the weakest in the series. The first two are classics, if you can deal with older graphics and possible compatibility issues.

Edit: While they're a little bit off from what you're looking for, you might also want to check out the Commandos series, since it stresses leading a squad of stealthy bastards. On the other hand, killing guards is often necessary, you just want to make sure to do it as quietly and out of the way as possible.

Have you played the early ghost recons? The newer ones went pretty "next-gen", but GR1 (and 2 to a lesser extent) are both very open and let you lead a squad through the levels in your own way. They're great fun in coop as well, although I don't know if anyone still plays them.
