I think I need to look into a new career as a wall street executive or drug dealer so I can afford to push that much boost through a brand new car and not care about the consequences. I love my mustang but if I blow it up I'm going to be pissed.

Is there a full build list of what's done to that evolution car? At what point did those new rods go in because I thought originally they were running a mostly stock internals and just pushing some reasonable level of boost.

They like being all secretive and poo poo because they have a deal with 5.0 Mustang that lets them be the first one to talk about the car's details. I love waiting months for a dieing publishing medium to tell me about the latest goings on in my hobby instead of getting it directly from the horse's mouth the instant it happens.

My 2006 has a few creaks and rattles on colder days and if I crank the bass on the stereo I can find one or two more, but all in all I have no complaints. The vast majority of the time it's better than most economy sedans I've driven by a fair margin. It's certainly not a BMW or Mercedes in terms of cabin silence though, and I'd be sorta sad if it was.

Paint has been very durable - one total chip from a loving semi plus some minor dings that buffed out from an rear end in a top hat who ran a shopping cart into it.

Electronics: pretty reliable - in the time I've had it (two years now) I think the stereo has fritzed out once, and that was right before the battery went (@ around 36k miles, because the previous owner apparently lied to me about having replaced the battery). I try to avoid firing everything up at once when I start it up, but I also do things like leaving the stereo/AC on when I turn the car off with zero ill effects. No complaints about any of the power assisted stuff - auto-descend windows (one button press = down all the way) and auto-tightening seatbelts (accelerate fast enough and the seatbelt snugs up to hold you tight) were two of the nicer surprises.

The transmission has been pretty durable for me, but for the most part I'm going about 5 miles on city streets as my day-to-day commute, so it's not really getting a chance to stretch its legs other than the freeway (admittedly the 5, the PCH, and Ortega all have their benefits). :D

So, to update this with sad news since I apparently jinxed myself horrifically - my transmission decided to eat itself. It ended up with a blown servo bore in the transmission, needing either a replacement of the solenoid body and servo bore, or just straight up replacing the whole transmission. On top of that, apparently the guy I bought the car from never sent in the paperwork to transfer the powertrain warranty, so I'm eating a decent chunk of change to fix it. :( Nothing I can't handle, but definitely makes me more than a little sad since it had been so reliable up till now.

I guess I'm immature as I'm 30 and have my shift firmness set to full hard. It's fun chirping the tires just easing away from a light. :)

FWIW, you can have them set it for whatever shift firmness you want. Their website is kind of out of date as you can tell. One section tells you the transmission can handle 850hp and the price page tells you their generic 450hp rating. Still, $3k for an 850hp capable transmission from a reputable company is pretty decent.

Yeah, it's a pretty good deal considering the price, I thought the same thing. TCI trannies have always been good to me.

After 20 years spent replacing spider gears, the constant BANG of a really hard-shifting automatic makes me inwardly cringe. :D

Believe me, I'm tempted. I suspect that I'm probably going to behave myself and save the extra $1k difference between that and stock, though. It's a daily driver and my personal mechanical ineptitude is going to keep me from really taking advantage of the truly awesome features. Plus the Orange County police take a really dim view of rapid acceleration to the speed limit even if you don't exceed it.

I'm a complete idiot about customer service but I figured it might be worth talking to Ford to see if I could get the snafu with the drivetrain warranty straightened out - is talking to (http://www.ford.com/owner-services/customer-support/contact-ford) going to piss off my dealer? My plan was to go in tomorrow morning, get the written estimate for replacement + their best guess as to what happened and see if they'd be willing to honor the warranty (which is apparently not in my name but I understood to have transferred when I purchased the car), and then chat with the Ford customer support people if not.

Edit: thank you for pointing out the aftermarket transmission though - it actually gives me a really good excuse to not immediately pull the trigger on getting it replaced.

No it will not upset them. Either the dealership or FMC should be able to transfer the remaining ESP into your name. The transfer fee is ~$75.

I wasn't aware they made more than a handful of parts for the S197. I know David bought a 2008 Shelby and made a few parts for it when he couldn't find what he wanted in the aftermarket. He said he's going to offer a full line of stuff for the new 5.0, including a turbo kit.

I just checked one of the UK importers' sites, and thanks to the pound strengthening against the dollar I found I could have a GT Premium imported and on the road (including all taxes and SVA work) for £32,000. Except that right now, I'm buying a house and don't have 32 grand to spare any more. Dammit.

Just for comparison, £32k would get the absolute cheapest possible 5-Series diesel, a Focus RS, the bottom end of the Audi TT range, and be slightly short of the base Boxster. None of which I would particularly want. Okay, so maybe I don't actually need a bigger house...

After the wife and I rented one on a recent trip to Cape Cod, I fell in love with the 2011 Mustang. It's crazy because I've never had any passion at all for American pony cars. I thought I'd be a WRX guy for life. After that rental, I'm absolutely shocked at what an incredible car the 2011 Mustang is.

I'm headed to the dealership today to test drive a convertible V6 and a standard GT, both with a manual.

Unfortunately, my budget won't allow me to get a GT convertible. I'm so torn on which to get. We'll see how much I like the GT.

What transmission? If it's a 4R70W, just go ahead and do the lube mod at the same time to prevent this from happening again in the future. That guide shows you how to replace the bushing as well.
