My brother in law and I spun head to head last night and put together a new Progressive House set. 90% of the tracks are new releases from this month (all except The Mighty Ming, which just transitioned to nicely into the set not to use). If you care to give it a listen, let me know what you think. http://soundcloud.com/djdace/c-j-prog-house-10-21-10

That restaurant during the daytime = family fun for everyone / Castlevania 2 during the day = Villagers are out in the open and the enemies that are around are weak. That restaurant during the night = Bros and Bitches everywhere, the environment changes into an uppity suburban wannabe club / Castlevania 2, when night falls, Simon says "What a horrible night to have a curse", all the happy villagers go inside and there are zombies everywhere and different monsters around the countryside that deal more damage and take more hits to kill. My friend has asked me to mix an electro set for his upcoming birthday, problem is I haven't been paying much attention the the electro scene lately. It'll probably be about an hour long, was wondering if any of you have any suggestions for any number of songs that you think would produce a pumping set? I'll be playing it later in the evening when people have had a few drinks and will wanting to dance so I want it to be a heavy but intensely danceable set. Any suggestions?

Saying heavy/danceable makes me think you're after oliver koletzki kind of electro, like this (my reccomendation for the set) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfw2IEFV8QQ&feature=related For some other ideas, try this site: http://www.depechemode.de/electro/ It's german (pretty much all electro is these days...), but most of these links have youtube clips, or check them on beatport. I dont do much with proper electro myself so I cant vouch for it, but a friend gave me this link a while ago and said it's good. edit: been to one of these nights, so their mix cd's are good place to check out a tracklist - http://www.amazon.de/We-Love-Electro-Various/dp/B001DK4BR4 cubicle gangster fucked around with this message at 04:07 on Oct 24, 2010 |

I'm looking for suggestions! I've always liked Daft Punk, and thanks to this thread I've discovered Justice, Leftfield... and David Guetta. I like his stuff a lot, and I want more like it! I dig the poppish electronic, I guess. I prefer to listen to albums as I discover stuff, but all I come across when looking are mixed sets with many DJs. I'd like more David Guetta-like stuff.

Alfajor posted:I'm looking for suggestions! I've always liked Daft Punk, and thanks to this thread I've discovered Justice, Leftfield... Daft punk, justice & leftfield are all miles from each other, it's going to be hard to reccomend something. Albums wise, try: Rudi zygadlo - great western laymen It's pop, classic rock & a bit of dubstep mixed up. Works really well, fantastic album. Steve angello has an album called the yearbook I think, that'll be closer to guettas sound. I've not heard it though, I know it's not my bag. Martinez - the paridigm shift is awesome and a new favourite of mine, It's not a million miles away from leftfield. Try trentemoller too, it's a similar style. Anything he's done is worth getting. Try a booka shade album too maybe. on the justice side, Boys noize - Power, and Oi Oi Oi. Digitalism have a couple of albums. Vitalic has 2, but ok cowboy is much better It's kind of hard to give specifics, because guetta aside pretty much everyone likes justice, daft punk & leftfield, regardless of which area they prefer more... See how these go down and mention what you liked, it'll be easier to give you names then. There arent many albums getting released, but it's happening a lot more these days. Dj's moving into doing live shows of studio work are all jumping on board. I think all those albums should be on spotify, so if you use that do some browsing. The related artists thing on there is well worth digging through too, it's on point these days. cubicle gangster fucked around with this message at 10:54 on Oct 25, 2010 |

Honestly I would go and get one of Guetta's live sets (probably more recent), give it a good listen, and if it's your thing pull up a tracklist and do the same with some of the other artists he uses in the mix. Or just download more Guetta sets. But as already noted, this isn't an album driven genre so it will be pretty hard to find that. Everyone also loves those names and honestly they are pretty unique, thats why they spilled over into the masses. Except Guetta he sucks. I guess Trentemoller, Boys Noize and Booka Shade. Check out Danger too.
