Recently zoomed through the entirety of Parks and Recreation (started off slow, but now I love it more than The Office) and Season 4 of 30 Rock. I usually enjoy 30 Rock, even though it seems like such a smug, self-congratulatory show. Does anyone else feel that way about it?

I just started Frisky Dingo because I was a huge Archer fan, and Archer's showrunner Adam Reed co-created Frisky Dingo first. So far, I'm really not enjoying it, although the concept sounded extremely promising. It seems really crude compared to Archer (and The Venture Bros., another show I love that I figured would have a similar aesthetic), with more of that infuriating random violence and general "wacky!" randomness that turns me off to everything else on Adult Swim. I really expected more, but I will cautiously continue.

Season 2 is much stronger, but still has those moments, so uh, maybe it's just not your kinda show.

Agree with the above poster in that OZ owns, and even though I know one of the major, major spoilers, it still hasn't happened and I'm enjoying it. It's amazing how many issues its brought up that are still not being worked on to this day.

Also just finished BSG after taking it very, very slow...
And the ending wasn't that bad, all things considered. Especially considering the entire series wasn't worth the hype.
Oh, and the final 2-minute coda. That was bullshit and unnecessary.

Love me some Jericho. I binged through it a second time with a buddy (his first time) this summer, the rewatch is totally worth it. There's an amazing amount of foreshadowing in that show.

Just finished Seasons 2 of Battlestar Galatica and Prison Break. BSG is just as amazing as everyone has said it is. Prison Break is not quite as good as season 1, but still entertaining me quite a bit. I really hope it doesn't get silly in S3.

I've been watching a lot of Friends re-runs on KTLA. As much as I hate to admit it, I started out hating the show because I heard everyone else was hating it, but I started watching it, and I'm addicted to it now. There has been a lot of episodes I haven't seen, though. Due to them not buying the rights of some episodes, or something. But I basically know how everything goes in the show. If anyone really likes sitcoms, I'd recommend it. (I don't like this sit-com as much as Married... With Children though!)

I'm still going through Veronica Mars (up to S3E2, but I must agree that the S2 finale was way too loving much info and retconning and junk even though I liked the season overall), but I've also started 30 Rock and Party Down. 30 Rock's S1 is good, but not great, but Party Down is incredible.

I've been a sci fi nerd since I was a kid, and I think most TV sci fi is adolescent garbage. BSG at its best (IMO seasons 1 through 2.5) was the only science fiction TV show I've seen that actually lived up to the possibilities of the genre.

I maintain that once ER hits its stride (about season 2 or so), it is up there with The West Wing in terms of outstanding network drama. There's a bellyful of terrific episodes and you'll come to actually really, genuinely care for the characters.

It gets a bit wobbly when Carter gets stabbed and, for lack of a better term, 'jumps the shark' when Dr Green dies (in an episode I still rank as one of the best episodes of Drama ever made, ever). Once Parminda Negra's character shows up for the first time it starts to become an overblown, ridiculous, overly melodramatic soap opera.

But then again, in the final season they somehow managed to reign it in and season 15 is solid, if not up to the standards of the earlier stuff.

You can probably tell that I'm somewhat of a fanboy, but I say go for it :) Oh, and let us know your opinion of Love's Labor Lost, an excellent episode from season one.

After seeing the Jericho love in this thread, I was going to add it to my Netflix queue and realized I had given it a 2 star rating. I vaguely remember watching the first couple of episodes and not being very impressed, does it hit its stride later or is this a case where if you don't like the first couple of episodes you're probably just not going to enjoy the series?

I watched it and hated it. It's like science fiction for religious nuts who hate science. Carnivale for retards.

I've been going through It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It feels like a chore sometimes. There are some great, laugh out loud episodes, then there are more that come across as forced and off.

I wouldn't even know if you would describe it as character driven or story driven. X happens, which is just an excuse for the characters to be as sociopathic, mean, or gross as possible. The characters react predictably to every situation, and so it's just predictable reactions in different situations. It's like, there's no setup and pay off for the jokes.

Daniel Tosh mocked them on an episode of Tosh.0, saying how they almost got a clap out of him. That's how I feel. I'm having a hard time articulating what's off about the show. It's amusing when it could be hilarious. All the pieces are there.

Did you at least make it to Danny DeVito's introduction? That makes it for a lot of people.

Regardless if you're through season 2 and it's not doing anything for you, it's probably just not for you.

Then again, do you feel you would like it more if it got a lot more extravagant and crazy? Because the later seasons are more like that.

If you are looking for a comedy with any sort of depth to it (i.e. any depth that isn't immediately used as a joke or as a reference point for a joke) then Sunny probably isn't for you. I agree with the poster above me who said that you need to make it until after DeVito's character gets introduced, with the caveat that you need to stay at least until he goes off the rails. Of course if you've made it that far and you still don't like it then tough luck, jabroni.

I need a new show to watch, since I failed to get into Breaking Bad. Is Carnivale worth it even with the non-ending? I hate when I get into shows that just...fizzle out without resolving major plot points.

I liked the first few episodes but a lot of people didn't. Later on there starts being more conspiracy and alternate history stuff that is pretty cool. The American Revolution parallels in season 2 were my favorite part of the show.

Out of all the shows created to compete with Lost, I think Jericho did the best job of recreating the same feel. The main characters are all stranded together, and there's a central mystery that drives the story but isn't necessarily the narrative focus at first. Both of those things cause the story to rely on the characters rather than the plot. Unfortunately, Jericho's characters weren't as memorable.

I'm on Season 4. It's really not bad. It's an amusing enough way to pass the time, I just think it could be hilarious.

Some episodes are. The Gang Crack the Liberty Bell, the episode with Rob Thomas and Sinbad, the episode where Frank is trying to bang the widow, the one where Frank makes Dennis a prostitute. That episode had the funniest line in the series.

"Why don't you let Buster blow a line off your boner?"

Charley's reaction to it is priceless. He is easily the best part of the show.

I've been watching Friday Night Lights and I'm currently mid-way through season 3.

I've gone from hating this show to loving this show to being really really angry with where the writers are taking it.

It is obvious to me that season 2 was cut short due to the writer's strike (I'm guessing that much since it ended abruptly) so I realize that season 3 had to be written around that, but at this point I have been infuriated for most of the season.

I cannot stand the way they are loving over Matt Sarasen. The new QB is a piece of poo poo and at this point they're just trolling the audience. Also moving Sarasen to receiver isn't going to make me feel like it's all better and done for, I will never be able to root for that JD shitbird. The only two people I pretty much care about in the show are Matt and Coach. The former is getting hosed over completely by the writers and I'm guessing he will be gone next season, which is yet another problem: how do I keep watching the show if I don't give a poo poo about anyone else?

This show is rocky as gently caress but everything from season 1's episode "Mud Bowl" to the episode before the finale of season 2 was perfect...

edit: And don't get me started about Smash leaving the show. That was sad as gently caress...

So, I just started watching the first few episodes of Dexter and I'm really impressed, and finding it surprisingly enjoyable. I really have no idea why I stayed away from it for so long - I suppose I didn't have the time and too many other shows were taking precedence - but I'm really glad I finally got around to watching it.

I'm admittedly a little concerned, because I've heard there's a bit of a drop-off in quality after season 1. So far it's a really perfect, tightly plotted and paced serial that's doing so many things well - engaging characters, strong acting, especially strong visuals and cinematography, and so on. It just has so much going on all the time. The Ice Truck Killer is probably the most intriguing to me, but when it's combined with all these other great subplots and threads, like Dexter and Doakes, Dexter and his girlfriend, Dexter and his vigilante serial killings, and just Dexter's general sociopathic personality and perspective on the world as communicated through his internal monologue, contrasted with his genial outward behavior and how he's perceived by others... Well, it all adds up to fantastic television. And there are so many cool directions for these characters to go in.
