Binging through all 6 episodes of Police Squad in honor of the fallen.

I'd already seen them years ago, but they are still just as hilarious.

Amazon just had the complete Oz boxset for like £40, so I expect I'll be binging through it soon. I've never seen an episode before, but I generally enjoy HBO shows. I find that it doesn't really get mentioned online in the same volume as something like The Wire or Deadwood, so what can I expect?

Rape, drugs, and dongs. You will also see a bunch of actors from the Wire, Sopranos, and Law and Order.

And Dexter, and Lost (well, most of the black characters on Lost, at least). I don't think anyone would describe it as anywhere near the quality of The Wire or Deadwood (or The Sopranos, or Rome, or even Carnivale), but it's not without its charms. And rape.

True, and Oz rarely comes up when talking about the great products of HBO, while The Shield (like The Sopranos) is up there with the greatest TV series of all time, regardless of network.

I just started on Better off Ted and Breaking Bad. I quite like them both. But for some reason each episode of Breaking Bad seems 3 hours long, and I can't seem to get through it in one sitting, even though I am enjoying it.

I feel exactly the same about Breaking Bad, I really enjoy it, but I couldn't stand to watch more than one episode a day. I'm at the 4th episode of the 3rd season, and Walts attempts to deal with the consequences of his actions is very compelling.

I'd highly recommend that anyone on this thread watches the UK E4 series Misfits. Any description of it makes it sound lame as hell, it's basically a drama in which 5 teenagers on community service who get superpowers after being struck by lightning. Sounds poo poo, but it's brilliantly written, funnier then 90% of comedies, and as the first season is 6 episodes long you don't have to dedicate half your life to catching up with it.

Imagine season 1 of Heroes, better written, 100 times funnier, more shagging, swearing and toilet humour, plus the knowledge that it actually gets better in the second season. The second season is being shown at the moment, and the most recent episode was one of the best episodes of TV I've ever seen. Just make sure you avoid spoilers!

Have you seen X-Files? There was another lovely FOX one called Millenium. There was a crossover.
E: Also, I really like Oz. I remember it as the first uncensored serial show I've ever watched. There is a special place in my heart for Oz, and it gave us a ton of great actors that are all over the loving place now if they weren't before.

It's the proposal for season 4 and while it had a few good lines it would have been even more of a departure from the show's original premise. I'm not sure if I would have been able to get past that or not, but I figured this was interesting enough to link.

This, everyone should watch Misfits, it's REALLY good, incredibly funny while still beeing pretty dark. And you just have to love their awesome accents, especially Kelly's.

Anyway. Currently binging trough The Wire. Beginning of season 4. I think it's my new facorite show, or at least one of them. On the side I'm catching up on Gossip Girl (stopped for some reason in the middle of season 3 altough I always liked the show). And I started with Carnivale. I really don't know what to think about that one, but I think I like it. Fascinating setting in any case.

Honestly, I kinda love this on Castle, because it reminds me of Scooby Doo - you know exactly who the villain is going to be the second they show up on-screen, it's like there's just something immediately recognizable based on these (occasionally subtle) traits.

A show called Thumbs Up was added to netflix recently. I decided to check it out, and ended up watching all eight episodes. Was a very awesome show.

quote:

This Internet series follows audacious host David Choe as he hitchhikes, hops trains and scams rides across America, interviewing modern-day hobos and other fascinating characters he meets along the way. As Choe dodges cops, sleeps overnight on exclusive country-club greens, and indulges his fondness for casino gambling, he and traveling pal Harry learn to take life as it comes while flying under the radar.

The guy that picks them up in the second episode is great. What a way to live your life.

drat. That's quick. I just finished the series over the course of a couple months. The main characters have a way of making you alternate between rooting for them and being disgusted by them in the span of 5 minutes. Especially Christian. The later seasons (in LA) are a little weaker because they start getting really meta, the "villains" aren't nearly as interesting, and Matt just goes off the deep-end and becomes an annoyance. Matt's high point for the series is that threesome with Kate Mara and Sophia Bush, from then on his stupidity just keeps beating him down.

Loved the series though. It's like every 25+ year running soap opera storyline turned up to eleven and condensed into 6 shortish seasons with good acting and writing.

Razor is the first episode of Season 4 anyway, so there's no need to get it separately. (I remember being confused as gently caress when I was netflixing that series with the way they had everything packaged)

I'd strongly recommend watching The Resistance webisodes between seasons 2 and 3. There's a lot of stuff in there that's paid off in the season 3 opening arc, even if none of it is absolutely necessary to know. They're also still up on Youtube, which is obviously more convenient.

Both Razor and The Plan would probably fit in best chronologically after season 2. If you want to participate in a true BSG experience, you should probably have a painfully long wait between Lay Down Your Burdens and season 3 so watch them then. Otherwise just watch them after you finish the series, both are essentially exposition on stuff you already know.

The Face of the Enemy webisodes are good but only tangentially connected to any particular story arc.

Yeah, that's what I meant by tangentially connected, it slightly informs a huge story arc in 4.5. At the same time, there's only one throwaway line in the series proper that refers to the main plot of that series of webisodes, and there's other more major reasons why all of the later stuff happens.

Again it's like 30 minutes total, very well done, and they're all on Youtube, so probably not a bad idea to watch before 4.5, but if the OP doesn't he's not really going to notice he missed anything either.
