How did you do the teeth on your monsters, if you don't mind me asking? They're fantastic.

I joined the group, even though I'm pretty much on hiatus since being pregnant and having a crazy toddler pretty much sucks up all my crafting time. Thinking I may or may not open back up a few months after having the baby. I have a list of quite a few goon shops somewhere on my computer, I will try to find it. In the mean time if anyone still uses the goonsquad team tag you could find more members that way.

I submitted an app for the goonsquad too. I'm about to make and list a bunch of stuff for the holidays but my big stocking is going to be in February for my Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation fundraiser.

When I was pregnant with my second son I went a little nutty with making little dolls from the yarn scraps I had taking up space in my attic. I know I need to take some better pictures, but any constructive criticism you experienced etsyians (etsiers?) can give would be most appreciated! http://www.etsy.com/shop/LambLisa

I was more looking for what people here who ship fragile things do. How did you pack your items and what were you sending? Regardless, bubble wrap is probably your best option, especially for very fragile and/or heavy things. Paper, peanuts, etc. just won't absorb shock well enough. Bubble wrap gets kind of expensive, but it's better than having your stuff break constantly. Just make sure that you wrap things with the bubbles on the inside (smooth side out). The more fragile/heavier your item is, the more you'll need. It also works better if your item is a snug fit in its box. If there's room for it to roll or bounce around, it won't absorb shock as well and it'll be more likely to break.

The things that are breaking are polymer clay figurines, and i was packing them in a ton of tissue paper surrounded snugly by a ton of packing paper. Nothing moved a bit when shaken, so I figured everything was secure. Guess not. Off to the store for bubble wrap I go!

Try a bubble wrap roll around it, then into a box that just fits the wrap, then tuck that into the center of a larger box with packing paper all 'round? That would give it some space for when the UPS/FedEX/whoever guy throws a box full of bowling balls on top of it in the warehouse.

For anyone using international shipping this year to the USA, there are increased security measures on the USA side that has created a massive backlog of parcels. Also, the bad weather in Europe has delayed deliveries further. The postal bulletin with the info above was issued on the 18th of November in the UK and is ongoing. I had a "where's my stuff?" message from a customer on Etsy yesterday that prompted me to look it up.

I recently opened an Etsy shop (TheCatFarm) to sell my handmade cat toys. I was making toys for our own cats and since our kitties love them I thought I would try selling them. They are made to order with or without catnip. From time to time I sew stuff for humans (hats, vests) and those items can be found in the shop too. http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheCatFarm Click here for the full 1024x505 image. http://www.etsy.com/listing/64258744/cat-toy-cockroach I make the cockroach toys from felt and the antennae and legs are braided embroidery floss. Click here for the full 730x1024 image. http://www.etsy.com/listing/64897977/cat-toy-party-hat-with-catnip-bright The party hat cat toys are made from fleece and have feathers sewn in. They are filled with both poly-fill and catnip. Our cats go apeshit for these! Click here for the full 825x768 image. Bonus shot

I finally got my product back from the fiber mill and I want to rub it all over my body. I have not, so don't be afraid to buy it but it feels like clouds We're still waiting on the white yarns so we can do hand dyed stuff. Clicking the pictures will take you to their listing. The alpaca stuff is made from local fiber from our alpaca raising friends. I raise sheep and in a couple of months we will be shearing these guys and producing some completely home raised yarn. I'm so excited

Look Under The Rock posted:I want an alpaca, they are so cute and I could make my own awesome yarn. If you hang out with alpaca people long enough they will try to give you one. People (at least in OH) have entirely too many alpacas and nothing to do with them. Sheep are way cooler and I am in no way biased by my barn full of woolly things.

Some UK Etsy teams have organised a UK-wide sale this month that will be advertised through the Etsy newsletter. If you're a UK seller, you can get involved here:http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6734241&page=1 or search "silly sale" and "uk" if you want to buy items approved by The Queen.

Weaving is my latest obsession, and I am quickly accumulating more woven articles than one person really needs, even with a stash of gifts factored in. So, I opened a shop. http://weavingbychaco.etsy.com So far there are scarves and some really fun hats. I've also made shawls and vests, and a blanket, but I'm skeptical that people would really pay what a larger handwoven item is worth (especially since my bigger projects so far are made of handspun yarn), once you factor in how much time is involved. Can anyone tell me what they think of my prices? I tried to find a happy medium between pricing what I think handmade items are worth and what i think people will pay, but since no one has bought anything yet it's hard to tell if the prices are in a reasonable ballpark.

You can actually run into problems if you price your items too low on etsy (people might assume there is a catch). I think your prices look fine, but it wouldn't hurt to do some researching in other weaving shops. Also, I wouldn't worry about no sales yet. I didn't have more than one or two sales a month for almost the first five months. Things seem to pick up the longer you're there, the more items you make, and the more feedback you get.

Attention goons! I need 2-3 people to help me run the Goon Squad! Jobs include trying to get people to talk about things on the boards there, finding goons to invite to the group, and that's it really. So drop me a line and the first three people to apply will probably get the job. Also if you have a good icon go for it.

I'd be up for helping--I was thinking we should have a post in SA-mart to direct people to Goon Squad shops. Yes? I started my own thread, but it would be simpler to sell everything through Etsy, and just direct the goon horde to everyone's shops there with one post. Also, I added a few new hats! http://www.etsy.com/listing/66340171/red-and-blue-striped-beanie-style-hat http://www.etsy.com/listing/66339565/beanie-style-handwoven-hat-adult-medium http://www.etsy.com/listing/66334989/handwoven-beanie-style-hat-adult-small Dr. Chaco fucked around with this message at 18:35 on Jan 20, 2011 |
