Janine is pretty much my sole reason for loving Eastenders at the moment. She's loving mental and if she doesn't kill or marry at least one person every year, her life has no meaning. Poor Ryan, he has just an insatiable hankering for mad girls who take citalopram chasers with their voddy and oranges. Big Ben looks loving weird but I can't make a proper evaluation untill he speaks. Hopefully his whiny high voice will have disappeared along with the actor who previously played him.

Do you guys generally discuss only new/current shows? I just finished watching the first series of Life on Mars, and aaahhhhhh, I'm bursting I was thinking of making a thread for older BBC series (anything from Quatermass to Are You Being Served to recent stuff that's just too old to have an active thread going) but if this is the place for that, I'll just stick around here. This alone: eating only apples posted:I just saw a trailer for Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. makes me very glad I poked my head in.

I guess whatever reasons someone has for discussing Seinfeld in here, they're the same reasons why the BBC-America channel shows Star Trek: TNG. Scenes like the chicken in a basket scene make me wish they would do a completely comedic episode, like The X-Files would sometimes do. Somehow the way Sam says "You don't need a plate, it's in a basket," cracks me the hell up, every time. E: Series 2 episode 1—Yayy, the plot finally thickens. But then are you making GBS threads me? I knew the kiss was bound to be a fakeout, but not QUITE so over-the-top ridiculously. But that was a great episode, full of tasty paranoia and the biggest helping of scenery-chewing insanity yet. I love that poo poo. Cichlid the Loach fucked around with this message at 10:21 on Dec 14, 2010 |

Janine? Eh, not so much. I think I've always hate the character and the actress. Plus, Glendas kinda hot so... Regarding Old Ben, my cousin knows him from school and apparently his voice isn't as high as it was in Eastenders but I dunno. I've never met him. New Ben looks loving odd. I think the new Eastenders story lines sound good. Especially in regards to Kat and Ronnie!

Was Janine in a fire, because she didn't always talk like that. Is she trying to be sexy? She sounds like my uncle who has a paralyzed vocal chord. I hope New Ben is like a character from scum, and the first thing he does is lays out Jay, kicks Phil in the balls, and rapes Billy in the greenhouse.

Carol's son, Bianca's brother Billie died of drinking too much booze on his birthday. Then she decided to shag his best friend Conner, who moved in with her (and Glenda, who Carol moved in with after Billie died), and then she caught him with dodgy jewelery, so she kicked him out. Now Conner is trying to shag Whitney, Billie's former girlfriend, and Bianca's adopted daughter. Whitney is currently dating Peter, who wants to marry her, but she doesn't know that, plus she's just not that into him. Ben ended up doing a six month stretch, Phil Mitchel went on crack for a couple of wonderful weeks, burnt down the Queen Vic, then got better, and now Ben has come back, and looks different. Ben is also treating Jay like a son, and just got Jay to change his second name to Mitchell. Phil is also cheating on Shirley with Glenda and running various dodgy deals. Kat and Alfie Moon came back and took over the Queen Vic, renting it from Phil. There were various shenanigans, but they aren't up to much at the moment. Stacey Slater is having an affair with Ryan, Janine's husband. Janine just found out, and is currently poisoning Ryan, and plans to do the same to Stacey and her baby. Jane Beale found out about found out about Lucy Beales abortion, and decided to leave Ian, but first decided to gently caress with him a bit. That didn't really happen, she ended up kissing Masood, and told Ian about it, who forgave her, but started an affair with Glenda behind her back. Glenda is getting a lot of cock for a 55 year old.

Phil sleeping with his aunt (well his cousins mother) really highlights the rather small genetic pool that residents of Walford work within. I'm fairly sure it would be possible to write up a fairly convincing "Baby Beale has Webbed Feet" theory, describing the majority of Eastenders newcomers over the last two decades purely in terms of the need for new breeding stock in Albert Square.

Baby Beale and whatever Stacy's baby is called having the "Walford Look" would be a nice slow burning storyline for the next couple years.

It must be a bit of a minefield writing for the younger characters as they become teenagers. I'm sure if you pick two at random then they'll be cousins in at least five different ways. Romantic interests have to be picked very carefully. Is there a baby beale? I just picked a name out of my head with suitable alliteration. Actually, isn't that the one which got aborted? Probably for the best looking at it. I'm now starting to think that maybe EastEnders has been harshly judged over the years, and the whole thing is actually a brilliant slow modern retelling of the rise and fall of Europe's pre first world war royal families. Or possibly not, my knowledge on that era of history is shamefully slightly worse than that of my knowledge of EastEnders. A somewhat depressing thought.

Brown Moses posted:Dirk Gently is on BBC4 tonight at 9pm, so you can all watch it before Misfits. I assume you are all watching Misfits. Ooh, wow, hope it will make it across the pond before too long. Also I've been mainlining Life on Mars and just finished it... Hope I don't run afoul of spoiler tag rules here, but I figure since this is a multiple-show megathread rather than a show-specific thread, it feels like a bit of a special case, especially since LoM doesn't totally fall under the thread's purview anyway. Aaaaahhhhh! Ending was SUCH a relief. For some reason I was bracing myself for a depressing ending. It just seemed inevitable. As it is, it's a happy ending that just leaves you with a bunch of unsettling questions. Like if 2006 is indeed the real world and 1973 the dream, is Sam's mother going to blame herself for the rest of her life for unwittingly giving Sam advice that contributed to him killing himself? Of course, while it's the most likely case that 2006 is real and 1973 is the dream, it could still be the other way around, or they could both be real, or both fake, or something more complicated... After all, we hear Sam flatline in 2006, but his life goes on in 1973. It may not be "real" real, but there's a "there" there... you know? Also, I was rolling my eyes in the first episode at the Sam/Annie thing, cuz it was just so obvious... but I got really invested in it, fast. I think a lot of it is just due to John Simm's fantastic acting really selling him being completely in love with her. I nearly threw something at the TV during that finale scene at his flat, when Sam spends about 10 minutes flapping his jaw instead of just shutting up and kissing her like he should. But I guess at that moment he was trying to be delicate and play everything aboveboard, so as not to initiate anything that might hurt her when he knew it couldn't be a longterm thing. I will probably give Ashes to Ashes a try, although Sam Tyler is so central to LoM that I'm honestly not as interested in a show without him. But it still has Philip Glenister, who is absolutely fabulous, so there is a case to be made. Can anyone tell me (if you've read this far) if they refer to Sam and Annie as having existed in the Ashes to Ashes world?

So, this year's Big Fat Quiz Of The Year lineup is pretty terrible: In case you can't tell: Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross, Ruth Jones, Noel Fielding, Richard Ayoade, Michael McIntyre and host Jimmy Carr. The line-up last year was basically perfect, had fantastic chemistry and put on a great show. Have Rob Brydon, David Mitchell, Charlie Brooker and Claudia Winkleman all become so in-demand that they wouldn't do it again? I'll probably still end up watching it anyway, for completion's sake. Just a shame it's doomed not to be anywhere near as good as last year's.

John Simm is a fantastic actor, after watching Life on Mars and the episodes of Dr Who that he was in I watched State of Play - if anyone hasn't seen that or only seen the Hollywood version definitely try and get hold of it.
