It has the release typical of all reasonably priced jacks: standstill to freefall with a slight twist. The handle is very thick though, so modulating it is a lot easier than other jacks I've used.

Isn't this a common feature of "racing" jacks though? You just give it a quarter twist and it quickly drops the car to the ground so you can get back in the race, yo.

I'd imagine jacks not branded as "racing" have a more reasonable drop speed control.

How is the feel on the release of the aluminum racing jack from HF that everyone recommends? I like the way the release feels and with the large knurled handle you have some good control over it.

Ive got an aluminum HF racing jack and I think it has a pretty quick release. If you try to use it like a regular jack, your car is dropping. Barely a quarter turn of the handle will get things moving at a reasonable pace.

Flying a plane is just like riding a bike, except it's harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.
I have basically the jack Fireantz posted (same model, but about 10 years old), and it has the issue Lowclock was asking about. Hard to turn to release initially, but once it releases it drops very quickly. It wasn't always like this. It started doing this about 3 years ago. I'm sure heavy use and cold winter storage are contributing factors.

MY HF racing jack does alright for, umm, actual racing. Make sure you grease the end of the handle, it galls instantly when new (anodized aluminum against maybe aluminum) and is rough forever after. Its much easier to modulate when it doesn't rotate like a stick in a box of bolts.

Might want to change the hydraulic fluid, its a good bet water worked its way into the hydraulic system.

Aluminum corrodes nearly instantly when exposed to air, and has a pseudo-protective barrier. Water immersion should not have an effect. I would not be concerned about the metal, but would be of the fluid and seals mentioned above. It's probably all OK, but jack oil is cheap enough.

The fasteners, fittings and pistons etc are still going to be ferrous, though, so check them out. A dousing of WD40 or similar might be an idea.

Just snagged a bunch of HF pact sets, impact wobbles and impact extensions on clearance.

The biggest surprise was seeing the 1/2 and 3/4 drive breaker bars for like $4 down from $20ish.
Thanks for posting this, I didn't notice the breaker bars were on clearance when I went the other day looking for SAE impact socket sets (which they didn't have). Bought a 25" breaker bar for $6, and was happy to find they had restocked the SAE sockets, so I bought a couple of those. The extensions and wobble sets weren't on clearance.

Any idea if it will peel off of paint on body panels? More specifically, flat or satin paint? I'm having dirty thoughts about doing some gnarly scallops on my car, and if plastidip made them removable, I'd be more likely to give it a go, I think.

From the pictures I've seen it peels right off. It seems almost like a spray-on vinyl wrap in that way.

So do you guys like the wobble extension things? I was considering getting some when I was in HF today loading up on impact sockets, but I'm not convinced it would be anything but annoying in most cases. I guess I just want a regular extension, but they only seemed to have 3/8 impact extensions.

I have the HF version of this (in SAE) and they're awesome. The pivot makes them so useful. Unfortunately I lost my 9/16 one, which was the size I bought the set for in the first place.

Not sure how the HF wobbles are, but my Matco wobbles also allow you to push the socket on just a smidge more to make it a non-wobble.

Personally, they are all I use in 1/4", and it's very rare that I grab anything else in 3/8", either - unless I need the super-long 3-footer, or my 6" locking extension. The added flexibility is very helpful.

They are awesome! Its great when you need to move your gun over a little. I got the impact wobble extensions, and if you do shove them down a little it makes it into a regular socket extension.

The coupon says no sale/clearance items. I have two of the 25% off coupons, and I am going to pick up two pairs of the 6 ton jack stands (The guy made it clear that it was one coupon per person, not per visit, so my wife will use one, I guess). The 3 ton jack stands are useless. I have no idea why I bought more of the stupid 3 ton this summer, since they are too short.
