Does anyone know if the documentary from 2009, The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant, is available to stream or rent online anywhere? I am looking for you fine folks for help. I am searching for recent combat documentaries (Iraq, Afghanistan) that have not been posted, such as Restrepo, Armadillo, Gunner Palace, 21 Days to Baghdad, episodes of Dispatches with embedded reporters. They were all great and I would like to see more. Or any good non-conspiracy 9/11 films from that day. I have about 290 conspiracy films all of the same poo poo. It is terrible.

If you can bear the hokey/hippy-ish bits, Scared Sacred has some very good scenes. Basically, 'Visiting the 'Ground Zeros' of the planet, he asks if it's possible to find hope in the darkest moments of human history.' Canadian guy spends years travelling around the world and visiting places like Bhopal, or Cambodia, etc and interviewing the people there to see what they are doing in the aftermath of regional catastrophes to make things better. He also happens to get into Afghanistan before the current war and focus on women's rights, and get to NYC right after 9-11 to film people in the streets. You can watch the whole thing online for free: http://www.nfb.ca/film/scared_sacred It does have some saccharine/hippy overtones but all in all I really enjoyed it... sometimes uplifting is good.

Specifically The Wounded Platoon follows a platoon in the 506th Infantry, mostly dealing with the psychological aspects of combat and returning home. Obama's War is a good one about Afghanistan and how the military planned to change their tactics after the lessons of Iraq. These and some others can be seen here, I think you need to be in the US to view them, but I could be wrong. PBS Frontline is one of the best documentary series out there, any of them will keep you interested. I really can't recommend them enough.

If you've seen Troll 2 you know that its a cinematic masterpiece. Well Joshua grew up and decided to make a documentary about the film. http://bestworstmovie.com/ Its pretty cool to see everyone in the movie 20 years later and they all seem like normal people, most of them at least. I got this on netflix but I don't think its streaming.

I've really been enjoying this thread and the documentaries posted within. Time for me to step up and chip in with one that I watched recently called Laughing With Hitler. The topic is comedy in the third reich, from the jokes people told in the street - and their consiquences - to those engaged in various forms of political satire on stage and screen as well as those sell outs who prostituted their comedy for the Nazi regime. It appears to be a German production, the version linked below was shown on BBC four and is dubbed into English. There is plenty of excellent archive footage, the likes of which I have never really seen before, as well as interviews and amusingly, re-enacments of jokes and joke telling by a couple of contemporary actors. http://documentaryheaven.com/laughing-with-hitler/

Try PBS frontline, they have done 3-4 ones about it. Including one with a guy embedded with taliban fighters. All their shows are available online. This is the one covering Afghanistan from the taliban perspective

As far as I can see, this hasn't been posted yet. It's just another Westboro Baptist Church documentary. But this one's a little different. Keith Allen (father of Lily) pretty much follows the crazies of the WBC and insults them, with their permission. It's not a very sincere take on them or anything, but how seriously can you take them?! Anyway, it's more than just a stupid documentary and it has a pretty good "twist", if you can call it that. So I apologize if this was already posted, but I did read the majority of the thread and didn't see it. A Walk To Beautiful It's a saddening yet uplifting story of the journey that 5 Ethiopian women make to get their fistulas, a form of birth injury, corrected. Fistulas are holes that form between the vagina and bladder, and vagina and rectum, following prolonged labor. These women are poor, and some of them are far too young to have children. They enter labor, and cannot get the baby out, sometimes they labor for up to a week. During this time, the baby's head cuts off blood supply to their tissues and these tissues die and fall out. The women with fistulas constantly drip urine and/or feces, and are kicked out of the house by their families and generally considered trash. In a major city there is a fistula clinic that fixes these problems as best they can, women have to walk on foot for miles to even reach their bus stop, and then must sit on a bus in their own excrement, with the stares of the other passengers for over 10 hours. I loved this documentary when I watched it. Despite starting painfully, it ends very well.

To all those people posting documentaries about Chernobyl - here is a documentary about the province I was born in - Chelyabinsk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z21On24m4Lc It documents the people that still live in the contaminated areas around the old Mayak nuclear power plant. It doesn't even begin to deal with the city itself or the other smaller environmental disasters, but seeing how some of these villagers live will astound you. The government allowed people to get sick from radiation to see how people will react to prolonged exposure to radiation.

Unrepentant: Kevin Annett and Canada's Genocide Can't find a good synopsis for this one. Starts as a fish-out-of-water thing. Young, naive preacher Kevin Annett moves to Port Alberni, B.C., and finds it odd that there are no Natives in the congregation, and no effort made to reach out to them. He takes the task upon himself, despite warning, and finds out about the wonderful things his fellow ministers did to the Natives, a few decades back, at the Port Alberni residential school. The United Church of Canada systematically destroys his life (homeless, can't get a job, wife leaves him, etc.) to keep him from speaking out against them. Lots of fun interviews with Natives about murder and torture in the schools, and the lasting effects of attendance at these schools.   (is there a 2011 edition of this thread, yet?)

She is married with kids and flew out to London to see him in a play and every time I talk to her or check out her facebook status it's always about him. Lately she's been hearing how creepy it's sounding, what with her being married and all, and poor -that trip was on credit cards, so she made some big statement about how she'll take his pics down but there's nothing wrong with it. Then she changed her mind and put them back up. I can relate to this show.

Hulu also has the excellent documentary For All Mankind about the moon landings. It's more of a celebration of man's conquest of the moon than a pragmatic how we got to the moon story, if that makes sense. Great Brian Eno soundtrack too.

Both are fantastic and worth watching, but the Mike Rowe one is a tad watered down. They are loving GORGEOUS in HD if you can find it on the tube. They combine awesome science with gorgeous modern animation and great music.
