The scarlet letter was her passport into regions where other women dared not tread. Shame, Despair, Solitude! These had been her teachers, stern and wild ones, and they had made her strong, but taught her much amiss.

I've still got mine. The biggest issue with the manual is that there were so many manual addendum that it ended missing a whole bunch of game features as the patches came.

That said, I still miss the hell out of big paper manuals and I'd happily pay a $20 premium for a game to have one. Nice for reading in bed or on the crapper.

Agreed. The only Jane's sim I worked on was the LAN component for F/A-18 Simulator. Testing that was a blast with two 8 player flights on a coordinated strike mission.

Interesting note. The original design document for Falcon 4.0 was written as an Excel spreadsheet. By the time it Gold Mastered, the spreadsheet was 11MB!!! 11 megs for a loving spreadsheet, no graphics...

It was easily the most complex game I ever worked on and regressing bugs could be a nightmare.

I still have my Falcon 4.0 manual. When I bought it my computer couldn't run it. When I finally had a computer that could run it, I didn't have the time, energy or interest to read a binder's worth of material when in reality I just wanted to blow things up.

Also, the manual comes with maps of the Korean Peninsula or something right? Seriously cool and completely overkill. No one makes games like that anymore.

Yep and its loving awesome, especially if you have trackir. Only issue is it is complex as gently caress. I still dont know how to fly for long periods of time at high altitude (in the mountains) with out losing power and dieing. Oh and it has Startfoce copy protection which in my experience also likes to keep you from using products you own from time to time. The start up in DCS BS doesnt have to be as crazy with the checks and all as they make it. After a few tries and if you dont care about checking O2 and the like you could start the black shark pretty quick and not catch fire most of the time.

It's in beta and it shows, but there's promise. The systems all work pretty well, as does multiplayer. The only really glaring issues (probably several other minor things I haven't noticed) are some weapons don't work properly - CBUs barely leave a scratch, for instance. No dynamic campaigns like in Falcon 4.0 though :(

If you're into zipping around in dogfights you won't find that in A-10, but it's pretty satisfying to fly around evading SAMs and annihilating convoys.

This was my first flight sim. My uncle had it on an old 486, started off watching him play it. I never could get carrier landings down. I'd kill for a modern, dedicated F-14 simulator. It was my favorite plane even before I saw Top Gun.

I can't believe how much time I spent playing Aces of the Pacific. Grinding out mission after mission, all of them exactly the same, in the hope that I'd soon move to a new phase or get a medal or whatever.

Does anyone remember a Harrier sim which had a pretty good campaign? I remember it being cutting edge graphics wise in its day, but only played the demo that came with a UK magazine. It could be that it had a poo poo campaign, but I seem to recall that was one of its selling points - Falklands I think.
