I was actually planning on asking the admin if I could arrange a couple people per event to be able to make Custom Title bets with each other - no odds involved, just betting on a fight, whoever wins gets to give the loser a custom title that they have to wear for a month.

But the answer is no, it's not kosher, because even with a low limit if you're bookie-ing with Bodog odds you're essentially acting as a bookie, and that creates legal liabilities because the laws around that in the US are draconian and not well defined, and PSP is currently public-viewable.

wait, I thought people bet custom titles and stuff all the time?

I perhaps phrased that a little confusingly. Betting custom titles is fine and dandy. What he originally asked was whether he could

quote:

bookie for anyone wanting to put low stakes around a $10 or so limit (Favorites to win $10, Underdogs risk up to $10) with Bodog odds through Paypal

which is not fine and dandy, for the reasons stated.

"Mathewson pitched against Cincinnati yesterday. Another way of putting it is that Cincinnati lost a game of baseball."
That's also very against the Paypal terms of service, among other issues.

No.

The greatest moment in my life was realizing that I didn't need a belt to be happy.
I've never used 5dimes but the customer service on Bodog was always nice and easy to work with whenever I had a problem.

don't bet on mma though please for the love of jonny bones god don't.

Anything on http://www.sportsbookreview.com/recommended+list/ will probably give you roughly similar service except for Pinnacle--they have the best odds on virtually everything but no bonuses to speak of. Pinnacle is a must if you are outside the US.

I was in Vegas for 106 in 2009, my first live UFC. I put six bets on six fights totalling $200. I bet on Snuffleupagus, Alves, Li'l Nog, Koscheck, Sadollah, and Griffin.

I won every single one and make about $170. :smug:

Since then, my record has been about 6 correct bets from perhaps 25 fights. :( Still up about $40 lifetime though!

Sergei has barely fought in the last few years, and Arlovski is horrifically inconsistent. That's a fight that I just wouldn't touch. If I was really pressed I'd be more tempted to bet on Arlovski based on how Sergei got lit up by Jaideep, who doesn't hit as hard (I think) but there's really no good reason to bet on either one of em.

I wasn't thinking anything serious, just 10 or 20 bucks. I'm betting more on Andrei being horrible.

i have a pile of money in a bodog account, and can't get it out because you need a copy of your previous paycheck to verify your identity or whatever. i will put all of it on the sergei.

After the Strikeforce event on Saturday, is it better to place bets on Strikeforce fights over UFC? With the UFC being more mainstream, I would expect the odds to be more rational. Whereas Strikeforce, being barely above B-league, should be more susceptible to wild, exploitable variations in odds.

If I hadn't completely forgotten about Strikeforce this weekend, I would have bet a pretty penny on Silva.

Will Fedor still be a strong favorite in his next fight, if he doesn't retire?

Ninja PD
Jul 21, 2006
There is no one organization that has easier fights to win money off of, rather you have to look at specific fights for specific edges. Lesnar was pretty much the UFC version of Fedor on the betting lines, except Lesnar wasn't a massive favorite all the time but you could still get a good line at even or so. Things you look out for are like unknown but skilled underdogs making their debuts or when the Frankies fight the BJs, wrestlers vs europeans (or pretty much anyone), and other edges like that.

Strikeforce has a tendency for squash-ish matches, the last 3 or 4 events could run under 2 and half hours put together which leads to popular fighters being massive favorites to relatively unknown opponents. Sometimes these opponents are actually very good and if you identify this edge then you should go for it. Remember however, if you think of something there are probably thousands of other bettors thinking the exact same thing so those handicapping edges may not last long.

WEC and generally any Japanese organization were notorious for having giant favorites get upset, but only once in a while, and then we think how obvious that pick should have been in hind sight. If you were truly, fully, wholy, 100% going to bet Silva to win that fight you would have placed money asap; something made you forget about it or you didn't prioritize yourself properly because in reality you weren't very confident in the pick, and now you are kicking yourself for not acting on a half thought hunch you had weeks ago. It happens to everybody but don't go betting expecting massive dogs to be winning consistently.

Edit - this being said, depending on the next opponent, we can probably expect Fedor to be a lot closer to even than we have ever before. His stock has fallen but I doubt we will ever see him be a giant underdog.

Don't be scared, homie!
Depending on how Overeem/Werdum goes I'm not sure he'd be the favourite against Overeem should they find a way to sneak him back into the bracket.

This is still the most likely outcome but honestly Rivera has a way better chance than -350; that's not a bad bet imo.

Its been implied but no one has outright said it:

Don't bet on every card, sometimes there just is not anything worth throwing money at. Don't waste your bankroll because you feel obligated to have some action (or because you have a gambling problem). Minimizing loss is half of making profit.
