I consider burnouts that end in carnage to be good thread material. If nothing's ruined, then yeah, keep that feelgood poo poo out of here. \/\/\/ I do sort of wish the thread title was "Post Cool/Funny Ruined Stuff" but that doesn't have the same wonderful ring to it. \/\/\/ Splizwarf fucked around with this message at 16:51 on Feb 18, 2011 |

No, that isn't mechanical failure, thats just pure stupidity and lack of ability to drive, still good though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT7nM4ddoCM&feature=related Part Stupid Part Mechanical Failure Look dumbass do you understand what your radiator does and how it works? If you create a TON of load on your engine and it has no way to cool itself sufficiently (i.e. no airflow beyond what the fan is pulling) your car is going to DIE. Oh hey i seem to be having some axle troubles. Click here for the full 1229x922 image. Yeah, that'll probably be it. Thats quite an achievement snapping that, it is 80mm wide, or just over 3 inches of steel spring.

It looks like those had been run for a good while. Nothing is broken off, and it doesn't look like the ground was crushed flat, just bent a bit. Besides some damaged plugs that grounded out, I don't see too much of a problem. Perhaps if the rod bearings let go so bad the pistons smacked the plugs?

It sure looks like something smacked the plugs.

Haven't opened the motor yet but I'm 99% confident detonation did that.
|
# ? Mar 1, 2011 23:33 |

I thought detonation would eat away at the plugs, not bend them?
|
# ? Mar 2, 2011 02:40 |

Hot plugs due to detonation and compression could do that.

Chuck some new seats, valves and a piston at it and hone the poo poo out of the cylinder and you will be good to go! Seriously, newer 4strokes are like riding a hand grenade with the pin pulled. No time like the present to get a worked over head, big bore kit, Ti valves and springs and some cams.

6 days later and what do you get? Almost a week older and deeper in debt. Also a hot machine under your balls exploded.

FatCow posted:Melted all 4 pistons and I think burnt some valves a bit. How in gods name did I drive an hour home on this. Wow, lol. I kind of figured you'd see a little bit of rounding on the edges of the piston, but that's quite a significant bit of ringland missing.

It was a 2001 Miata motor. That cylinder actually came up 180psi on a compression test. Protip don't run near 14:1 AFRs on a track car. FatCow fucked around with this message at 22:20 on Mar 5, 2011 |
