Awesome. That opening was amazing but the rest of it wasn't as good as the final product, I think.

Speaking of Streetlight, Tomas seems to have added a second solo show at Joe's Pub in May. If you're in the NYC area on May 5th/6th, I'd recommend going. I went to a Toh Kay show June and it was pretty fun, save for this one dude near me whistling horn lines in the wrong key.

Hey speaking of Streetlight I saw them last friday! The venue was a tiny-rear end little dive bar and there can't have been more than 200 people there, which meant I got to muscle up to the front row and rock out with Matt Stewart. He shook my hand after their set was over and thanked me for rocking out with him

Here is some bad shakycam footage to give an idea of how close we were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVX-fZhD4G0&feature=channel_video_title

I got to chill with Larry & His Flask before the show too. Me and the girlfriend got to the venue really early and we helped them unload their gear and talked with them a little and they are the nicest loving guys you'll ever meet. They were looking for a place to stay too and I wish I could've taken them up on it, but I did spend as much money on merch as I could afford to.

Every time Skapara releases a new song on Youtube it drives me up a wall because of the fact that a lot of their catalog isn't available in North America STILL (such as Paradise Blue, Wild Peace, World Ska Symphony, and now Goldfingers). Which sucks because their new material is pretty drat good. Not that they've ever put out a BAD album but some of it can be really, REALLY formulaic. Get to America soon!!

Regardless of whether or not they're considered a ska band, just thought I'd share that The Aquabats Super Show finally got picked up for television!

http://www.deadline.com/2011/03/the-hub-orders-aquabats-series-renews-the-haunting-hour/

quote:

The Hub, the new cable channel targeting kids and their families, is expected to announce tomorrow at its upfront that it has picked up a new series starring the quirky rock band The Aquabats. The series, which is expected to receive a 13-episode order, hails from FremantleMedia North America, marking the American Idol producer's first foray into children's programming. Christian Jacobs, Scott Schultz, and Jon Berrett's The Magic Store, the company behind the Nickelodeon hit Yo Gabba Gabba!, is producing. Jacobs and Schultz created the Aquabats series, and Jacobs will also star as he is one of the founding members and the vocalist of The Aquabats. Formed in 1994 in Orange County, CA, The Aquabats are known for their mythology, with the band members going by their superhero pseudonyms and wearing matching superhero costumes as they go on a quest to save the world from evil through music. The band's current members include The MC Bat Commander (Jacobs), Crash McLarson (Chad Larson), Jimmy the Robot (James Briggs), Ricky Fitness (Ricky Falomir) and Eagle "Bones" Falconhawk (Ian Fowles).

Finally. These guys have been trying to launch a TV show since the '90s. Better late than never. I'm sure Yo Gabba Gabba helped Christian's chances of getting another show on TV.

I cruise Amazon MP3's new releases in the ska category occasionally to see if anything interesting has come out. Usually I just learn that Amazon MP3 doesn't really know what ska is, but it looks like Sonic Boom Six has a new single.

There is also a not very good band that I think is a ska band whose horn section is... a tuba player? http://www.amazon.com/gently caress-You-Lady-Gaga-Explicit/dp/B004L0AJ9M/ref=zg_bsnr_195222011_9

I actually really liked City of Thieves. It was their first consistently listenable album from end to end. I liked songs on Arcade Perfect too, but City of Thieves was the first CD from them where I could actually relisten to the full thing. The new single, however, doesn't do much for me.

Well I hate the voice of most if not all ska singers so I cant really discriminate against SBS.

The only ska singers I appreciate are Chris Murray and maybe Reese Roper for his ability to hit literally any note in any octave (but I know people who hate his voice too, sooooo).

I've been listening to some old stuff recently and god drat Buck-O-Nine's "28 Teeth" is a good rear end album. I think I *might* actually like their cover of "I'm The Man" better than the original. I know some people around here don't like them but if you haven't heard that album before then you should give it a listen.
