My friends and I usually refer to Jonathan as Jah when talking about the show and it has stuck in my head. That said, I went to see Jogger (which was awesome even though I didn't think it would be) and Jonathan was nice enough to hang out for a few minutes afterward. He was really cool and exactly the guy you hear every week on the podcast. Throughout the conversation I had been calling him Jah, thinking nothing of it. At one point he had to tell me to stop calling him that because he felt is was disrespectful and he wasn't worthy of the term. He was cool about it and wasn't a dick at all but I felt bad afterward.

^ I'm not one to let my uyd fandom make me care about his music at all, but that jogger album is really good. I might have made the two hour drive to catch their closest show on that last tour, if the night had been free. CDR was gold this week. I just about died at the alternate dimension infection and Don's last tidbit.

Just like Dave on Walking the Room, my cat has never smelled Fresno. I was also listening to the Cone-tractual Dispute episode of Judge John Hodgman today and I realized I've heard of that food cart. The review doesn't mention his appearance but the Facebook page does.

Daly really brought CDR into some awful, dark, angry places this week, and it was amazing. The bit where he was talking about "Disney's Beauty and the Beast" in the church basement was so gross and hilarious that I had my first "what the hell are you laughing about?" incident at work while listening to the show. How the hell do you explain something like that? It's weird that he uses racism and suicide as such a crutch in his bits, but that they're always what I laugh the hardest at. I still think the Garry Marshall stuff from PFT is the absolute best, but Andrew Daly is goddamn brilliant. I hope episode 100 is as amazing as the last couple months have been.

The suicide talk is not really his doing especially since he almost got through this past CDR without mentioning it until Hot Saucerman brought it up. Hot Saucerman also tried to bring it up during Hot Dog's episode, so it's really more Hot Saucerman's fault.

I bought his album Nine Sweaters this week just to support him for being so consistently great on CDR, and it's really funny. Several of the characters he did were later seen on CDR, but only one of them (life of the party guy) even mentioned suicide. The suicide thing is definitely brought on by Scott. I don't remember which character it was, but early on in the show Scott started asking if he was depressed and Andy responded with something like "Jeeze, do you really want to get into that so soon?". And then on with the suicide plans.

Andy Daly's great, and Nine Sweaters is an incredible comedy album. He's said, I think on either Jordan Jesse Go or The Sound of Young America, that his favorite kind of comedy is putting forward a friendly, white-picket-fence/idyllic 1950s sensibility, then gradually peeling it away to reveal increasingly more dark, depraved, and hosed up stuff underneath. It comes through in so much of his work, and I think the manifestations of it along the lines of race and depression are definitely shaped by Aukerman's sensibility on CDR. (He almost always tries to find the awkward, uncomfortable, or what no one wants to talk about, and focus the interview closely on that.) Andy is also definitely amongst my favorite improv actors, right up there with Chad Carter and Sean Conroy, and is frequently on the ASSSSCAT! podcast, easily the best improv show in LA/NY. And if you want to be a crazy Andy Daly fanatic, try and track down a copy of his party game Mustache TV, or recreate it yourself. Andy used to package and sell the thing out of his garage. Essentially, it's just a novelty mustache that one player puts on the TV, then everyone watches and waits for it to "land on" various things and people's faces. You get points for what it falls on, and how well it lines up. Haven't played it, but it's supposed to be surprisingly engaging and hilarious. I love how much of Don Dimello's backstory they fleshed out over the course of the latest CDR. I love the ridiculous characters even more when they have somewhat reasonable explanations for how hosed up they are.

JJGo is by far one of my favorite podcasts, but I honestly don't think it should be in the catch-all top 10 comedy podcasts. On one episode, someone described Jesse as "a collection of eccentricities in place of a personality" which is about the most most apt description anyone could give of him. I used to listen to The Sound of Young America but stopped because Jesse is an INSUFFERABLE interviewer. The worst. For that reason I was wary of listening to JJGo, but Jordan and the guest do a pretty good job of playing off his weirdness, and they usually have a really nice rapport.
