Serious question: what kind of glue do I need to assemble metal models, and how long does it take to cure? I've been using Loctite on some Skorne models and I've seriously had stuff fall off when I start painting it, after a few days of just sitting there drying. Do I really have to pin every loving join?

Ise use the purple bottle instacure, and a touch of kicker (applied with a brush).

I pin most joints on metal models just out of principle, but you can get by if you make sure the surface is roughed up properly and there is a large contact area for the glue

I have used zap-a-gap for years. I only pin heavy pieces, or pieces that are liable to be landed on if it falls someplace.

Does the kicker help with strength, or is is just for fast curing? I might have to pick some up if it's the former. I hate metal models so much.

Yeah, the model is pretty painter dependent, and clearly PV didn't bring out enough of his inner baby elephant torturer.

The factory scheme looks a fair bit better.

The kicker is for quick drying, but if you make sure the bond area has a lot of contact area its not any weaker imo

Superglue doesn't take days to cure, so if it falls off it just means it wasn't glued well to begin with. Make sure the surfaces fit together properly, and consider roughing them up with a file or sandpaper. Pinning will basically solve this issue, but if you don't want to do that for every joint (and who does) you can also put a little bit of greenstuff between the two parts. As in, apply your glue, drop a small bit of GS on one side, and press the pieces together.

So I'm wrapping up my oath, and in the process I'm using Testors glosscoat on a few minis. How long does this stuff take to dry, and when would I be safe to spray dullcote over it?

PS: I got like one whiff of it 10 minutes ago and I'm still light headed.

It doesn't feel right to kill an unarmed man... but I'll get over it.
Give it at least 6 hours, preferably 24 (basically, if you can't smell it coming off the mini anymore, it's fully cured). Also, buy a filter mask or respirator, life is too short to gently caress around with the chemicals in all these spray products.

So I've started holding weekly painting get-togethers for goons/'hams in my area, which is turning out nicely. It's a good excuse to sit down, chat, and blow through models that we've had sitting around for a while.

For instance, I finished my squad of close-combat Space Marine Scouts that I've had sitting unassembled/painted for nearly two years:

The photo is a little dark due to low lighting. :( They're tabletop-worthy, but still need a few touchups. Not bad to a few hours though.

So I have a bit of a project in mind.

I'd like to a bit of a diorama of 5 Sanguinary Guard facing off against a Daemon Prince but I have no idea how I would structure it terrain wise. Should I have them charging towards the big evil guy over that wrecked rhino terrain they make or should I try to make something up out of some city ruins?

Has anyone done or seen anything similar? I'm not really looking for a tutorial so much as just looking for inspiration to pose my plastic mans.

:wom: will blow your mind.
As I read what you were describing I pictured the dp being surrounded by the guard, and each guy is on a different level. Like one guy close in front distracting, one to the right on a small plateau or ruined building sirt of commanding, one behind the prince jumping doing the "hasan chop" pose.

You know, something like that.

Ruined Imperial chapel maybe? Have the Daemon at the center/altar with the Sanguinary Guard surrounding him. A chapel is thematic and columns/pews provide enough structure for dramatic focus.

I wanted to paint some GKs, but make them red to fit in thematically with my other Imperial forces (all red + black, except for veterans who have silver pauldrons/helmets/flak armour what have you).

Does this look retarded or do you think it could work for a GK Purifier force?

I'm thinking of washing it a bit more to make the red v. v. dark and muted, and highlighting the hell out of the silver and gold bits.

I really like the red + silver placement, but I think the grey really ought to be black. I'm not digging the brown sword either, but thats less of a problem for me than the grey muddying the contrast.

I think it has the potential to be better than the standard GW scheme at least.

What everyone else said but especially this. Personally I'd go for a blue blade on the sword and green purity seals. Not sure about the hilt/crossguard colour either, it looks kinda peach, but that might just be the photo. If it is in real life, I'd go for something more neutral (brown & gold maybe).

Poor picture quality, sorry - sword is actually gold! Brightened it up a bit by making it a deep blue.

I think I'll go for more contrasting colours - change purity seals, maybe change the colour of the storm bolter, use green eyes.

I just wanted to go different from GW, but make them look different from, say, Blood Angels - v.v dark red I thought might achieve this nicely. I know I'm a pretty terribad painted compared to most of the ridiculously talented people in this thread haha
