a 20 year old with minimal experience with machine tools probably shouldn't be operating them alone and after hours even without extra hazards like long hair or jewelry (also don't most lathes have foot switches to prevent this sort of mishap these days? i'm usually not a fan of idiot proofing things but there's no real cost involved here)
