Yeah deep house is the best house. It has a number of colloquial definitions be forewarned, there are many disparate songs that could be considered deep house. Disco is often a big component and what you posted had a significant disco sampling heritage as a component that is often present in deep house. Sounds like the track you posted is from moodymann or one of the artists with his label mahogany or one of the other detroit house producers. One of his long time collaborator's theo parrish is one of my contenders for best dj if you can see him live.

Here are a few examples of different types of songs that might be considered deep house to demonstrate the breadth of the genre:

E.S.P. - It's You old school from chicago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-hcat6ARw

Todd Terry presents: House Of Gypsies feat. Al Wise - Another Worry-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBaONmV35y0

This is moodymann's most famous song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyuBoSh_yWY

SOmething from moodymann a little more like in the op: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa8Hef6gJiE

Here are a couple tracks from motor city drum ensemble from berlin that I also feel fit the bill http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjgsqXp3meg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WebcHqVjnis

From the 80s you could have guys like blaze as the sound was closer to disco. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDsAFNRaqs0

Then I guess someone figured out that stuff like this sounds really good at 5am

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFo9a2-FnM4

And on occasion some of these songs become part of the wider edm scene. For example, check out the prevalence of kenny dixon jr (moodymann) related stuff on their essential mix from the 90s. Other songs fulfil a more big room sound aesthetic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNXXYWUfZjY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XdhZEj2dng

Personally I like the 90s vocal jams the most http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esZGqaDb9ps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99jHPfkZX3Y http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbowsn4T4OA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWqlUk9ZUTA, which have some contemporary analogs but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9GR53047J4, http://clone.nl/item16772.html theres a huge variety of different deep house sub and related genres many of which were not mentioned here.

HEre's an example of one of the many deep house mini scenes in New York and around the world. A mix of pratt students and ppl from bed stuy go to these parties.

Thank you so much for taking time to introduce me to the genre. I'm more into instrumental stuff than the vocal stuff I've realized. Out of all those artists you posted, I like Motor City Ensemble the most. I could see myself listening to them a lot. I really like sample based stuff but I don't limit myself to just that by any means. I'm now on my way to explore a whole new genre, thanks a lot man

y halo thar lol
Ah deep house is excellent. I also recommend listening to artists which fall under the 'nu-disco' label as it's closely related, i think Motor City Ensemble is counted under this sometime. It's pretty different from Moodymann style though.

There's many many disco edit releases which are basically remakes as i understand it and it's like a whole genre it itself to explore too.
One specific recommendation is anything on the label Needwant, here's one track i like from them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHihV6I8gwk

try boys noize (particularly his album POWER). most of the artists on boysnoize recordings (housemeister, djedjotronic, d.i.m.) might also be the sort of thing you're looking for. i'm assuming if you're listening to sven vath you already know about richie hawtin's work as plastikman. also try extrawelt, dusty kid, speedy j, gesaffelstein, and jesper dahlback. let me know if this is the type of thing you're looking for because there's plenty more where that came from

It's pretty creative and the vocal samples are catchy, but it's not booty-bumpin' and does not have enough energy for many people to want to add it into their DJ sets (like you ask on Soundcloud) unless they are DJing some place that calls for calm, trippy music. I also don't see what it has to do with house. But after listening to some of your other stuff, it seems you have a knack for making creepy down-tempo music, good work. If you're interested in making dance music as well, keep practicing (I mean that in an encouraging way).

Cool, thanks for the specific criticism... Re: the House thing, I posted it here 'cause I was recommended to from The Musician Lounge, as it seemed the closest fit. As far as the beat not being completely up to Dance-y levels, I definitely agree. The soundcloud comment was just me sucking my own dick. :P It was my first attempt at trying to do a remix, so I was limited by a couple things... First, not knowing jack poo poo about remixing at all, but second, I was just using an Autofiltered/EQed sample of the song, so I couldn't dial out some of the residual beat and melody from underneath the dude's voice. So, I just kind of had to layer drum samples back over the muddied underlayer of drums. note to self this is why I should track down a cappella poo poo.

Anyway, I'll keep what y'all said in mind when I take a look at it again, much appreciated.

Use Google Reader, load up a music blog you kinda like.
Load the past 50-100-whatever posts (reader can open them all within a frame in the page, so all the links are visible at once).
Use Downthemall to grab every link that ends in *.mp3.
Repeat for any number of blogs.
Listen on random for hours and hours, marking what you like and dislike.

Yes. Easily. Easily one of the best DJs. I don't even know how to describe it, other than that his EQ wailing is amazing. Just listen to any of his sets on mixesdb. Amazing. Of course, he hates you if you use Serato. Or if you're mainstream. He says a lot in interviews along those lines. I've read all of his interviews, and he says a lot of the same things, mostly that he hates laptop DJs. But, he can say that, he's simply amazing.
