In better news, I just saw this in the AMR newsletter:

SKA! SKA! SKA!
Dan Potthast from MU330 has a new 10 piece SKA band featuring 3 members of SLOW GHERKIN and they are called DAN P AND THE BRICKS. This is no SKA PUNK, but just straight up smile big and dance SKA including a 5 piece horn section. The band just wrapped up recording in Los Angeles, where CHRIS MURRAY did the producing. I’ve heard 4 tracks thus far and I’m excited to say this thing is gonna make SKA fans so happy. I have been waiting for a new SKA band to come around and blow me away. I didn’t know it was going to take the mighty powers of MU330 and GHERKIN to make a super band, but hey.. I will take it..!!!
The band has a facebook page here: http://facebook.com/pages/Dan-P-and-The-Bricks/126386915894
Not sure of a release date yet, but will keep you posted.

So, uh, gently caress yeah.

If you live in Long Island and/or Brooklyn and haven't seen BTMI you just aren't trying. I used to live in SC, now I live in GA and I've seen BTMI at least 8 times in 4 different states.

Ska Thread; I need your help! I'm making a CD for work and I'm calling it lovely ska covers. I have several, all the RBF stuff, I just remembered the Less than Jake Greased stuff, various cure covers, that cover of freshman, but I want to organize it from oldest song to newest. Are there some sweet old songs that got ska covered? I think the oldest I have is Hippos groovy kind of love, or RBF talking 'bout a revolution.

Send halp please.

Also are there any "classics" that have been covered that I missed?

Yea total bullshit there. You can get from Tijuana to Vancouver in 24 hours nonstop driving. In that same amount of time you can go from Miami to Syracuse, NY which isn't even at the top of the east coast. You travel in 3 countries on the west coast in the same time it takes to not even cross the entirety of the east coast.

Now the northeast most major cities are really loving close together, 2-4 hours apart tops between the major ones which is awesome. Where I live in the southeast it takes almost two hours just to get to Atlanta, which is where my band plays our "local" shows. Me and loldance grew up in SC and if a show wasn't in Charlotte, NC which was about 45 minutes away we drove to Atlanta, or Knoxville or Wilmington all of which were 4 hour drives easy. If we were lucky a show that missed Charlotte would hit Columbia which was only a 2 hour drive. Road trips 4 lyfe.

I would routinely see shows in Sacramento and the Bay area if it was someone I really wanted to see. Like RBF, Streetlight,Big D(when they were still good) Leftover Crack, mostly I would just have to drive the 4 hours to see. 4 hours is like 4 states back here.

I was going to see them one time AND THEY CANCELLED gently caress YOU JEFF.

Also I want to hear a ten piece ska band starring Potthast. Stitch-Up playing La with a random kid in a BotAR shirt named Dennis on guitar was the best part of the Streetlight concert I went to.

I probably could start listing a ton of Jamaican ska covers, but I'm assuming that's not what you're looking for.

Does the BumbleBee Tuna song by Mephiskapheles count? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_Lrh6z-VDc

As for some covers of actual songs:
The Pietasters - It's The Same Old Song [Four Tops] - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osPijYP_f3g
Hepcat - Gimme Little Sign [Brenton Wood] - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyGZrcA9YJE
The Hippos - So Lonely [The Police] - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs53tjU7Uls
The Slackers - Wanted Dead or Alive [Bon Jovi] - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=so0j02nLEXw
Chris Murray and the Slackers - Janie Jones [The Clash] - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgZjClfvQxk

EDIT:
Also, everything off of the first two albums by the Skandalous All-Stars.

Just look for the numerous ska cover and tribute albums that came out 10-15 years ago.

"Skandalous: I've got You Covered!"

"Ska the third wave: Cover It Up"

"Metalliska"

"Skankaholics Unanimous"

"We Are Not Devo"

The Grinch: http://www.myspace.com/bluemeanieschicago

So a show has been announced in my area, July 24th, Reel Big Fish and Streetlight Manifesto.

Two bands I have wanted to see live since I started loving Ska. How good are these guys live?

also, I remember hearing something about RBF's Singer leaving a few months back. Do they already have a replacement?

Judging by recent videos of them on YouTube, they replaced Scott with a saxophonist that sports a mohawk.

And Streetlight rules so.

You won't be disappointed.

I'm not sure if I want to see RBF for the 4th time, since it's been basically the same exact show for the last 5+ years, except without Matt Wong & now Scott... If anything I'd go for Streetlight who are always awesome.
