The best is when the lock breaks and the shifter will basically turn around in a circle. It makes finding the gears even more fun.

You Am I posted:Column shifters were popular because most cars ran front bench seats. Bench seat + floor shifter + your lady in the middle = awesome. Bonus points if she's wearing a skirt, and no underwear. It's just natural to rest your hand on her thigh between shifts. Good times. Makes me want to convert my 72 Swinger to manual so the old lady can ride in the middle like the good old days.

You're almost making me miss my 90 Gutlass Supreme. It was a granny car, ugly, and unreliable. But I really liked having the 60/40 bench seat up front with a console shifter.

There is a law of physics (I think it might be the Paulli Exclusion Principle?) that states if you buy an escort with a sun roof and set it up for rallycross, the first large crest you fly over at 70 mph, you will fly out the sun roof comically.

All Z's I've seen in the upper midwest are in need of rust repair if they've at all lived here since their original purchase date. Very few were ever truly 'garage kept' and if they have sunroofs or t-tops you might as well flush your money down the toilet. That being said, arches, dog legs, rockers, rear sill, battery tray, wheel well, tool compartments, and floors are the places you need to look at and decide if it can be repaired. You can trip over Z guys selling 4 speed mans for < $100. Motor issues can range the gauntlet but you can always find a good block, head, etc for relatively cheap in the Z circles. You could always take it VQ https://sites.google.com/a/vq240z.com/www/home

I thought it was the other kind of 3-wheelers that were inherently unstable.

Faerunner posted:http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Motorcycles/trike.html :???: They sell tons of them, sadly. Well, that's not really what I meant; I make an arbitrary distinction between 3-wheelers and "trikes". A 3-wheeler is an offroad vehicle halfway between a 4-wheeler and a dirtbike; whereas I call a road bike with an extra wheel a "trike". But good point, I guess. They DO sell a hell of a lot of those; I didn't even think about that. But that that craigslist thing has such a narrow wheel base and such a long body, it seems inherently unstable, doesn't it? edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSaIv_5-Mho And that's The Stig; he's more machine than human. whose tuggin fucked around with this message at 18:06 on May 20, 2011 |

Having two wheels in front resolves the traditional 3-wheeler stability problem. The long wheelbase also helps. It would be better if the front axle were wider, of course.

VideoTapir posted:Would a 2-in-the-back 3 wheeler have stability problems if it steered with the rear wheels? That arrangement doesn't really make sense. It'd have to be front-engined, front-wheel drive with a limited-slip diff on the front axle and even then it wouldn't be easily driveable.

You could just put an FWD drive setup in the back to have drive and steer back there. I'd like to see it, but it'd be way more sensitive to toe issues than an FWD car.
