I thought the GF's and their abilities were really fun, the card trading was a great mini-game and it's the closest I've came to completing a FF from the PS1 era. I started FF7 a few months ago, got 10-15 hours in and stopped playing but this thread has encouraged me to pick it back up again. Thanks for the tips Elentor and it's been a great LP so far.

Emulation or the PC version is the only option if you want the game to not look garish/washed out. PS1 resolution etc doesn't scale well to modern TVs.

I'm playing this on my 40" tv and have absolutely no issues. Then again I can sit through anything you guys would call a garbled mess and not bat an eye.

The PS3 (at least the second generation, with half of the PS2 hardware emulated) is supposed to have an upscaling function for PS1 and PS2 games if you are using HDMI, but I've never tried it so I don't know if it works as well as increasing the resolution via emulation. I think if you use the PSN version you're stuck with the original resolution.

Long story short, though, you can never, ever play PS1 games on PS-hardware at as high resolution as you can with a PC-based emulator. At best, you'll get x2 native PSX resolution if you use texture filtering on the PS2, which may or may not actually cook your hardware.

But you can turn just about any word or name into a euphemism for penis in context. Such as: "My girlfriend really likes the size of my White Dragon. So, after she got done stroking my Elentor..."
