I don't know any history, other than some dude from Deadspin stopped another from writing for Grantland. That "article" is just really petty was my point. EDIT: Other than the fact that Deadspin is terrible. Orgophlax fucked around with this message at 18:37 on Jun 21, 2011 |

I was going to post that deadspin article yesterday. They are so jealous you can just feel the hatred. They have to be angry so far Grantland has turned out to be awesome, totally surpassing my expectations (which were high as I will admit I actually enjoy Bill Simmons). They even have the humblebrag guy!

Its almost as if Deadspin (and gawker media in general) has trashed its brand in so many ways that no one who can avoid it actually wants to work with or for them. And its almost as if Daulerio and Denton are catty, obsessive creepsters.

If there's one Deadspin/Grantland thing I'm looking forward to, it's the inevitable Tom Scocca/Chris Jones fight. Round two, if you will.

Was there ever any explanation for the format change? I remember seeing some passive aggressive, "This is all going exactly how we wanted and the people who hate it just don't understand" type messaging from Denton afterwards, but I never got why they changed it up so much in the first place.

Also since part of the salary of the writers is determined by pageviews you're going to get a lot of schlock

Basically the point of the article is Venoy wouldn't have pimped out his girlfriend if the NCAA paid athletes.

Not sure where else to put this but if you used to watch CNN back when Nick Charles and Fred Hickman did their nightly sports show together show (that lasted close to fifteen years didn't it?), Nick Charles has died at the age of 64.

Disguised my adolescent voice on the second night, because, you know, I didn't want to seem like that was all I did was watch call-in interview sports shows on CNN. The look on Nick's face said that he knew. I almost panicked and hung up, but stuck it out. So long, Nick. You were aces back then. Then, he threatened to call the Better Business Bureau about them leaving callers on hold too long.

Pos on Nick. Maybe I'm overly attuned to bittersweet things, but I find that article/blog post/whatever way too touching for being written by a guy who didn't really know Nick Charles (which he freely admits). Either way, I thought it was a good read.

From Dan Shaughnessy's article on how much of an ayehole Frank McCourt is:quote:That was only the beginning. The Dodgers discovered Manny was a quitter and cheater (something we also could have warned them about). While the McCourts squabbled over the family "fortune," a Giants fan was almost beaten to death outside Dodger Stadium on Opening Day. McCourt received a $30 million personal loan from Fox in order to make April's payroll. This prompted Selig to announce that MLB intended to take over control of the team. McCourt might be a horrible owner, but is there any real proof that ANYTHING he did/did not do lead to the Bryan Stow incident? Unless there's footage of him fleeing the scene wielding a steel pipe, seems like a useless thing to include in the article.
